Meh, my comment has more to do with pacing, not compariing it to Marineford. It just honestly doens’t seem like much happend or was introduced…I havne’t read it yet just the spoilers, but on the surface it doesn’t sound lik anything but “they touched down” happend.

If this new guy is anything like Arlong, this could lead to the destruction of Fisherman Island. Unless Jimbe is still alive and decides to help the SH crew take him down.
Maybe there are different bosses for the different districts of FI? I always thought that Jimbei was the king of all, but it looks like that’s not the case.

The only way I can explain it, because obviously Arlong was weak, was that perhaps he was on Jinbei’s level before they split up and then Jinbei just went nuts getting stronger.
It seems like a huge plot hole for now.
Not really a plothole, per se… Have to remember how stupidly strong Luffy is. Remember how he took down Crocodile, but Croc was shown going toe to toe with Doflamingo and utterly not giving a shit about anyone threatening him during the War at Marineford? Same thing with Arlong and the other Fishmen, I’d guess.
Not to mention that Arlong basically toyed with the Strawhats the entire time, and only got beat because he pissed off Luffy by making his nakama cry…

You’re 100% right. One piece isn’t like Dragon Ball where the begining enemies suck. The battles seem to have a certain luck factor in One Piece + Luffy being strong as fuck. Sure he can’t defeat the Admirals but I bet if he punched could actually touch them and land a big punch they would get hurt badly.
Arlong went and preyed on the weakest of humans and had a crew who in the grand scheme wasn’t extremely strong. you gotta take into account how wounded Zoro,and Sanji were after dealing with the likes of Mihawk,Pearl and Gin. Nobody was truly in good health but managed to pull out some crazy wins . So Arlongs Crew was pretty weak. Arlong Himself was leagues beyond alot of folks . He was strong as hell probably could Tie with Don Krieg in a fight,
Concerning the fishmen, you would think they would be CRAZY strong considering they live at depths that would instantly crush most other people, including the strawhats.
Same with the mermaids, but I guess their strength is in their crazy speed.

Naw “Sharks on Dart” Arlong wasn’t toying around with Luffy at all, he was in kill mode. He put all his tricks and weapons on display once he got really serious and felt the strength from Luffy. So for Arlong to be second in command, it is probably because he was the nearest in strength to Jimbei was waaaaay stronger than anyone else. Or maybe Arlong’s bloodline is close to Fisher Tiger.
Because after 2 horrible years of no real women he had lost all hope.
