Sigh… why do all one piece villains always have to try to block or defend or block Luffy’s ultimate attack(s)? Lucci, Enel, Crocodile, Aarlong, Moria, etc… Just once I would like to see someone say “fuck that” and simply zip out of the way and counter attack from there. Bleh…

If Lufy didn’t have the help he did he’d be fucked. He was not able to beat Doffy one v one. So despite this defeat Doffy is still nothing to fuck with. Also I think it’d be cool if Devil fruits could become hybrid fruits. Like maybe combing Black Beards Darkness Fruit and Kizaru’s Light Fruit yields the Chaos fruit. Which in addition to the original fruits abilities the user gains a new one, in this case control over space. ( like creating dimensional portals or holes in the space around you ).

Normally, as they themselves are at the last of their strength as well and are trying to end things as quick as possible or defend long enough to retaliate. Along with most of the Luffy’s battle winnings last attack usually cover a lot of real estate or are extremely fast and thus would be hard to evade in their current damaged forms.
I’d say the only one that maybe could have won or at least did more damage to Luffy had he evaded was Blueno but that just goes to over confidence in his own technique and Luffy being a OP main character.
Well Arlong didn’t try to block or defend. He went for the kill, landed his attack and right after Luffy landed his. Game set match.
Moria was beaten by his own boat. Though he was so damn big it’d be impossible to dodge a gear 2/3 Luffy.
Crocodile had his attacked dodged and launched into the air. Where he did two attacks, Luffy weathered the first one and counter attacked the 2nd.
Enel specifically says that the attack was too fast for him to dodge.
Lucci weathered a Gear 2 Gatling Gun earlier in the fight with his tenkai. This one just so happened to be stronger than the last one (despite Luffy literally running on fumes).
Lucci was the closest to what you described. But that was a calculated risk and he lost (which was going to happen anyway). Exactly how many other ways do you envision a fight ending anyway? Just in your examples so far we have 2 counter attacks (Arlong and Crocodile), too slow to dodge and thus a sitting duck (Moria and Enel), and one tried to block the attack (Doffy). All of these fights have to end somehow. Generally with Luffy’s punch inside their stomach.
Doffy was damaged. I am pretty sure he coudln’t move like he wanted to anyway. His organs were hurt than he took a kong gun to the face. He was likley on his last legs as well. Its just that he has experience in that position and utilized his environment stringts more and try to finish his opponent off quickly. Besides even when doflamingo could move alright he still couldn’t dodge a Kong Gun so blocking it was logical thing to do, especially with his strongest guard strings.
This was a legit win. Not some *sneeze *accidentally becomes a god *accidentally has healing powers now bs.
This. I think the panels might make folks underestimate the speed of that attack. Doflamingo was just as exhausted and his mobility while probably still better than most would’ve definitely been hindered.
It’s like me asking why a gassed boxer didn’t just dodge that telegraphed punch in the 12 round of a slugfest. Luffy was smart to not drain himself with such an attack early on because he would’ve had no chance.
1v1 Doflamingo was clearly the stronger opponent, but I think that was intentional because this arc emphasized the teamwork drawn from Luffy’s broken charisma ability rather than raw strength. The introduction of another D, Trafalgar Law, further displayed a cooperation that was unusual for Luffy who relented to facilitate Law’s need for personal revenge against Doflamingo.
