<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2” style=“font-style: normal;”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>I got into the series later than most of you, but I’ll try to explain why I follow it, in bullet point form. Because bullet points are great.

<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>The characterization is really well done despite the goofy art. Most characters are likable in some way, even the villains. One of my favourite characters is Crocodile.

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>OP is the most consistent manga around. Oda never forgets a detail. Haki was introduced in the first chapter, but we didn’t know it was Haki until much, much, much later. If something seems like a plot hole, chances are it’ll get filled at some point. Or maybe it did get filled, and you didn’t pick up on it!
<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Characters are really strong, but you can’t really say who’s absolutely the strongest. Someone will mention the Emperors, but even they aren’t invincible. Remember Magellan and how he had a broken DF power? His worst match up was Mr. 3. Shanks is this crazy strong pirate that everyone fears–except Buggy. Even Usopp had his moment against Luffy.
<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>The whole idea of Devil Fruits is interesting to me. They’re great but they come at a price. People without DF powers aren’t outclassed, so you don’t end up with these characters who are useless in the grand scheme of things, like you see in a lot of other manga. People like Usopp for a reason.
<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Unlike some other manga, OP has a definite end. Maybe the others do too, but it doesn’t feel like it. Right off the bat, you know what the end goal is and how to get to it, so all that’s left to fill in is the details leading up to the end. It might seem weird to want to wish for a manga to end, but to me, having an ending tells me that you know how you want to plot your course instead of just running endlessly without any real progression.
<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>It would make a great fighting game. It just needs a capable developer to make it happen.
<li style=“font-style: normal;”><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>There’s no absolute evil or absolute good. The Marines are all about justice, but they’ve done some shady stuff. Pirates have done some despicable things, but there are some with morals. The Celestial Dragons are portrayed as these super-evil human beings, but even they have shown respect to others at times (Queen Otohime).

Pretty much everything King9999 said.

But as part of my own take, I throw in the fact that One Piece is the one true successor to the original Dragon Ball in my eyes.

When I say Dragon Ball, I mean the original manga, before it went all DBZ with the never ending fights and lack of adventure outside of training for the next Big Battle. You get comedy, you get action (thanks to the powers granted by Devil Fruits, Haki, crazy OP science and such you see a lot of variety), a sense of wonder and the mysteries of normal arcs and the ever present myth arc which has new stuff being revealed all the time. The action is a big part but it is really only half of what makes it so dope.

I just love seeing Luffy punch the absolute fuck out of everything. Whenever someone messes with his friends or interferes with his/their dreams, they get DEALT WITH.

Same with Zoro… Only dude in the manga that made an intangible Logia(who typically can’t be harmed by physical blows) SCARED SHITLESS by only flexing his bloodlust.

Why do you follow this series? I mean, really, what makes you keep coming back for more?

I’d like to hear a few different answers, if you don’t mind sharing.

-First off, the consistency. Oda has methodically fleshed out almost every aspect of his story. Because of this, his world actually feels like a world, not just a bunch of scenes cobbled together to place a bunch of character archetypes.

-He conjures ideas that I’ve thought about. Oda and I do have some synchronicity in our thought patterns, not necessarily artistically but in terms of ideas. He seems to have an avid love of esoterically known creatures and random fun facts which makes his approach different from other shonens.

-He actually makes you care about his characters. Everything Luffy and co. has been through, you feel it. You feel the camaraderie, you feel the sacrifice, you feel the joy and the pain. When Luffy confronted Crocodile for the final time and still fought through lethal paralytic poison, and used his own blood or when Zoro absorbed all of Luffy’s pain from Kuma’s bubble, you can actually feel the gravitas of their scenarios. It takes special skill to craft a manga that makes you actually care about the characters and world they inhabit, not just skip to look at fight scenes or powerups.

-The world. Like the One Piece world, even with all its perils looks extremely fun to be a part of. I feel like such an escapist every time the Mugiwaras go to a new island with new places to explore, nothing’s ever static. I live to have those kind of adventures, so every Wednesday One Piece is my reprieve from the shittiness that is weekly grind.

-Dynamic fight scenes. Oda excels at making his fight scenes engaging and dynamic. When Luffy punches someone dat shit be<font face=“Arial Black”> FELT!

-Devil Fruits, nuff said.

-Most of all, the One Piece philosophy of DREAMS = POWER is such a beautiful concept. If you have the will to make your dreams to come true it will literally manifest itself in your

Oh and I’m pretty sure Moria is a Snakeneck.

You already got some valid answers, but I’ll give you a short and simple one:
If you love Dragon Ball, then you’ll love One Piece. If you love Dragon Ball Z, then you’ll love One Piece, once shit gets real.
The exact same reason I read Bleach & Naruto - a conclusion.<div style=“font-style: normal;”>

Its weird, I just don’t get exicted for One Piece chapters - even though they are typically denser and more well thought out than its ‘contemporaries’. I enjoyed it more when - for someone like myself, I got to read thru the War arc all at once. If they stopped releasing weekly, I wouldn’t have heartburn.

But I do think its a great read, a great adventure, with a complex enough system of ‘power caste’ - which allows someone with a non-OP DF ability (Luffy) to stretch himself (pun actually not intedned) to be a major player. The idea that Cobi - who is normal - people are expecting to actually be on the same tier as Luffy when they meet up again - or close at least - speaks VOLUMES.

But more than anything its a great adventure that I’d like to see how it plays out.

- :bluu:

You will like Usopp eventually. Just a matter of time.
