Yea, I’ll most likely end up trying to find out the prominent eps and arcs and good fights and just watch those only. Then maybe once I’m past 500 mark or timeskip, just watch regularly. Because no fucking way will my schedule/life allow me to watch this shit in under a year EVEN if it was 200 eps. Real talk. And then I’m on Hulu with commercials and ads. It’s not a good look right now lol.
Josh, I don’t read manga. Though I realize the positives of it. But I’m only watching this because it’s on Hulu. And I finally want to see what all the hype’s been about and why this is the most popular by a landslide.
I might be copping it after I watch a bit more. How is it? Looks fun as hell. I just want to at least have some understanding of story and characters before I get into it.
I remember when I borrowed that first Ultimate Ninja game on PS2 before I even watched or knew a thing about Naruto. I was so confused. I spent 2 days just wiki’ing the series and watching a boxset before I even touched the game again.
It’s mad fun. The game is basically a summary of the first half of one piece but they don’t do a good job explaining it , so I would recommend watching it first. Online is really fun.

I got into OP almost the same way. Thinking back about how long DB/DBZ was in manga and episodes and thinking that at the time that I started watching/reading it, it was around those numbers so I was hoping that it had finished… 5 years later and they’re still only half way lol.
Use this. Filler episodes are… okay, but not entire filler arcs.
Me, I am proponent of skipping arcs and episodes. Basically, it is how I got hooked. Read a volume at Barnes and Nobles, within two weeks bought all three ones they had released, tried to watch the 4Kids dub, wound up finding and spoiling myself on the pages of Luffy’s first usage of Gear 2. I then went through summaries and episode guides to get me up to date while going back to the manga or anime episodes as my desires went wild.
To this day I have not read more then two chapters of the Davy Back arc nor watched a single episode of it. Although I’ve read/watched damn near every other arc since outside of anime filler. Treat that shit like a western comic book, jump in where you can get in and use the internet to fill in the rest when you have time to kill.
If your pressed for time you could try watching the oavs for a few arcs. Like the nami one, one of the movies for chopper, another one for arabasta. That could save you some time.

Thanks but my laptop is finished. And my gf just bought a new one but she’s a teacher and has lesson plans and shit all over hers so I stay away from it. When I was on various sites streaming first season of Baki, it’s like that killed both of ours or something.

THANK YOU! I was looking for this. I will completely avoid filler arcs for now. I hear people saying Bleach had good filler arcs. I only watched first 157 eps. Vampire shit was ok. But when they had whole eps of the teddy bears cleaning the house and shit, I stopped series completely. And with good reason from how I hear it’s going…
That sounds like a plan and what I might eventually end up doing. Dudes suggested I just read up summaries and fill myself in up to a point. But I do want to see all the fights and important moments. By next week if I haven’t got totally snared and I start pressuring myself to commit to a damn routine of eps a day/week/month, then I’ll read up until after timeskip or this Big Mama bitch that Luffy called out. Then go back and watch older stuff if I get curious enough.
I’m not an anime watcher by any means, but I felt if I was going to check something out legitimately, then I wouldn’t just watch OVAs and pretend I got good grasp on a series or story. I’ll prob end up watching all the movies though. Because, there’s like shit at all on my radar except life and TTT2 tournaments. No other games or anime or whatever that I can tell. It’s a drought for everything else besides those two things. So I figure even if I get a year in this, I could still be watching OP everything if it’s crunk enough.
It’s just that right now, I have that fresh noob feeling where I want to know and see and cram everything about it in right now. Plus I don’t want to play that musou game before I get in deeper. But if I just calm the fuck down and get my gf accustomed to hearing japanese screaming at random times, then I’ll be good.

Only two parts in OP got me choking up, but that’s more than Bleach and Naruto…the end of the Chopper Arc and the part with Going Merry. The chopper joint was crrrrraaaayyyy. The boat part reminded me of that feeling when the car you and you’re boys used for several summers finally coughs its last time and its time to move on.

The only thing that prevents me from shedding man tears during those emotional OP scenes is the over the top crying. It’s hard for me to get too emotional when the characters are spewing cartoonish and grotesque rivers of tears and snot. :bluu:
