New chapter up! A pretty fun one. Interesting to see Caesarās motivationsā¦ Heās like 90 percent profit-hungry egomaniac scientist and 10 percent the-ends-justify-the-means guy with vague world-peace goals (but moreso for profit).
Prediction time!
[details=Spoiler]Luffy just met Kinemonās kid in dragon form. Kinemonās kid was in the āsecret roomā before winding up in the trash room. Ergo: Kinemonās kid knows the way up to the secret room where Caesar is right now. Also his army, but theyāre going to be cannon fodder while Caesar tries (and likely fails this time) to get away again.
The Biscuit Room doesnāt seem to be closed off to the rest of the area, so the kids and main bulk of the SHs are going to be running from the gas cloud soon too. By that point the ice bird lady is probably beaten, unless sheās just trying to keep the SH crew snowed in and distracted while she runs. Iām guessing beaten, since we seem to be getting to the end fights in this arc (what with Smoker finally showing what he can do versus mister Demon Bamboo).[/details]
The fighting has been good so far in this arc. Imaginative and properly punchy. This is why I enjoy One Piece fights more than a lot of the other shonen fare. Iāve been reading Fairy Tail lately, and while itās a fun series, and I see why itās popular, at the same time almost ALL the fights seem to revolve around āAww, youāre beating me down, WHOOPS hang on Iām actually much stronger than you thought and my spell totally and unexpectedly overpowered yours.ā Seriously. Itās LITERALLY that a lot of the time. No outsmarting the opponent, justā¦ being stronger than the opponent through the power of friendship or something.
Kinemonās son is a fruit user IMO, like his daddy. Mystikal Beast zoanā¦

Yeah, Asian dragon got to be Kinemonās kid but I am still wondering how exactly this arc is going to play out. I feel like Oda is building toward some twists, especially with Sanji left in a particularly bad spot via his wounds and the smoke.

I actually donāt like what Oda is doing. Itās GREAT for a Graphic Novel or a Volumeā¦but its too much going on at once in too many placesā¦even though each chapter is significant in length, the story doesnāt feel like its moving at ALL. Theyāve been running from the gas for like 2 months nowā¦its been like 5 minutes in plot timeā¦but heās going back and fourth so much. Close out someone getting to the room, then cut over and close out, then cut over and close out, etc. Itās no knock on his abilities or even calling it bad, I just donāt like it.

Yeah, this is something that One Piece has struggled with whenever they get into an arc lately. I remember having the same complaints about the War of the Best arc, the Fishman Island arc, and moreā¦ Thereās always a LOT going on at once, and the arcs tend to feel like theyāre dragging on a little when youāre reading them week by week, but they read much better once youāve got them collected.
I might complain about the amount of running-from-gas in this one, but honestly, all the little asides (the Mangastream translation has an intentionally hilarious line about man-crushes this time) keep things interesting. This arc only feels a LITTLE padded.

Anyone who could turn their body into odd shapes might be able to do some nasty stuff with Armament Haki, though. Probably not with Smoker, since heās a gas when heās not normal-bodiedā¦
Then again, Luffy grabbed the still-gaseous Caesar like the gas was physical without Caesar being forced to revert back to his normal shape. So if someone else using Haki on you can make you physical to them, I could see Armament making gas physical to the opponent. Meaning, Smokie could theoretically make himself into a constantly morphing stab-machine by forming Armament-hakiād spikes with the smoke, if he got enough control for it.
I think itās time for me to stop reading One Piece.
For a year at the least. This weekly format isnāt doing it for me. I need to read large chunks at once.

Thats the thing, by NO means does it feel like its āpaddedā - I dontā feel its being dragged out on purpose, its merely the way its being told is too much but Iām sure if I had the patience to wait for the arc to finish and then read it - it owuld make ALOT more senseā¦or if its animated.
