One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

(Weird. I could have sworn that I posted last week. Anyway, with regards to the chapter before this one, I’m more convinced that Vergo doesn’t necessarily have a Devil Fruit after the heart reveal.)

Yeah…I’m not really sure what happened in this chapter either, though I suppose that the intentional replication theory makes the most sense. I have to wonder if that indeed applies to all Devil Fruits after the user dies, though, or just this “experiment”.

Of course, that assumes that aspect was intentional at all, especially given how clownish Caesar seems to actually be despite being horrifically dangerous.

I figure Oda will explain that aspect (if it was actually intentional) before this arc is over, so meh.

As for the traitor

Spoiler

Given what–perhaps self-fulfilling–severe trust issues Caesar seems to have, I honestly wouldn’t be at all surprised if the traitor was Vergo, Monet or the both of them together.

Have echo what white shadow said in a way even if the fruit replication isn’t intentional: Caesar’s pretty much a genius given that type of poison.

I have to wonder if the people paralyzed are fully conscious. Can they still see? Can they breath? Or do they get to suffocate before they can actually be poisoned to death?

That would mean that Caesar had created his own Devil Fruit, though, since the fruit that Smiley had was just an axolotl Zoan.

Otherwise, I guess it’s possible as I said above…

This event also confirms that Devil Fruit powers get reincarnated once the user dies… unless this is specific to inanimate objects?

Axolotl zoan is really a “Devil” so technically it can be used to reanimate anything I guess.

Re: As for the traitor

Spoiler

I am betting Monet myself, she is too attractive/distinctive looking to just be a cute subordinate that doesn’t do anything major.

Sucks but no One Piece this week or at least today.

Jump is on break this week.

All these weeks with no One Piece… my jimmies are thoroughly rustled.

At least this time it’s the entire magazine, and not just Oda and crew being overworked/sick/on vacation.

Not that we should complain about something we’re basically reading for free.

Does anyone have Oda’s Paypal or something?

went back to watching the impel down arc, baring in mind of the haki that momonga was supposed to have, I’m not sure how luffys infiltration into ID was even supposed to work.

He clearly used observation haki to realize the ship was about to be attacked by that sea king. He should have heard luffy’s voice and thoughts when he was talking to hancock when he was hiding in her cloak, and should have heard what she said to ace. I suppose you could write it off that observation wasn’t the type of haki that he chose to specialize in.

Also generally speaking every time someone uses observational haki they close their eyes/tilt their head toward the ground. So I’m not sure if the point is to show that they don’t need to see to know whats going on. Or if they have to temperarily blind themselves so they can focus more on the observational haki. Laki and Coby seem to be exempt from this. But that might be because they were gifted in that particular area of haki.

Unless there is a way to block observational haki that hasn’t been revealed yet.

Observation haki doesnt mean you can hear people’s thoughts, Shinji.

Unless it does.

Wasn’t that how enel and his priests were able to know the moves that luffy and his crew were doing before they did it?

No, Observation Haki isn’t telepathy. It’s mild precognition and enhanced perception. If Observation Haki users were able to read minds, then Enel, for example, wouldn’t have been hit by Luffy’s blank mind technique. He would have realized that Luffy was about to attempt it and flown off into the sky or into the gold on his ship.

IIRC Mantra was an extention of Observation Haki- a unique form of it if you will. Besides, just because you have it, doesn’t mean it’s high-level or well-developed enough to pick up on peoples’ thoughts or presence. Coby just happens to be blessed with a rare affinity for it as was seen with Laki.

Also… it’s Luffy… He only has three thoughts: EAT MEAT. FIGHT. I’M GOING TO BE PIRATE KING!

I don’t think anyone really needs psychic powers to read HIS mind, lol.

To the point that they can name the exact attack?

Also consider Rogers hearing the “voice of all things”, hearing the seemingly nonverbal communcation between the sea kings, just as luffy was implied to doing as well.

Besides that, the examples that I brught up was Hancock talking to Luffy and then Hancock to Ace. Actual talking.

I’m looking forward to see how much Colby has progressed under Garp’s “loving” fists.

Observation Haki was never the “see everything and know everything that’s going on everywhere” skill outside of the REALLY skilled users, like Enel. And even at that, from what I’ve gathered, it senses INTENT.

The really skilled users (Coby, Enel) can apparently keep focused on how many lives are around them (by hearing their “voices”), but for the most part observational Haki seems to be knowing the intent of someone. Like sensing that a Sea King’s about to attack, or sensing that whatshisname swamp guy is about to attack Shirahoshi (post-war in the Fishman Island arc), or sensing someone’s intent to counter your attack (like Luffy versus Hawkeye).

The top-tier observation-Haki people would likely be able to sense Luffy hiding on his way into Impel Down, but otherwise he’d have to, like, be about to try to lay the smackdown on’em for them to notice.

Can’t believe no one posted the chapter yet

Sanji is clearly the best.

(Seriously, drean. How did you know these were out already?)

So…all Nami has to do is grope herself repeatedly to level up? Gods, it’s so obvious!

Also, damn. Law is so intelligently devious.

The Alliance

[details=Spoiler]Hmm…I find it funny how someone with the name Killer is so damn polite and level-headed compared to everyone else. I’m sure he lives up to his name, though.

Speaking of subdued swordsmen, I’m now rather sure that the swords men who looked like Basil in shadows wasn’t Basil unless they show that there were screens outside or on his ship or at least show where his sword went.[/details]

Cutting down the shutters is probably going to bite them in the ass big time…

You’re going to have link to and be more specific about the examples you’re talking about then since everyone’s made it rather clear that Observation Haki isn’t telepathy.

Observation Haki is pretty much empathy, which isn’t the same as telepathy at all beyond being able to “read” basic emotional states. That falling into the range of “observation” makes sense given how much body language, whether its conscious or not, whether its external or internal, gives away emotional states. Beyond able to do that and track someone’s position essentially makes it seem like telepathy, but so far, there’s been nothing to show that it is.

Also, I think you’re underestimating how well some people can hear in this manga, i.e. Akainu hearing ships coming from under the water well before they even neared the surface.

Hah! I’m funny!
