uh, so i just finished watching one piece anime, from ep 1 up to 500,
and i gotta say that,
i’m really and truly upset with the creator of this show, mr. oda, for ruining his own work!
and what made the show ‘jump the shark’ for me was the death of ace.

i mean, wtf?
now, its not so much the death of this particular character, its not like i was a fan of this character, i didn’t like him or dislike him, since he barely appears on the show, what i found broken about this character’s death was that it completely changes the FEEL and ATMOSPHERE of the anime.

this show ONE PIECE, watching it from its start to around where it is presently, i noticed that almost no one dies on this show. almost no one. not only do heroes not die, but even the villians don’t get wacked.
look at croc o dile, moria, buggy, etc…
look at the birdman from alabaster saga, and the other vivi generals/guards that fought croc o dile, just, just remember and revise your memory.
remember how every hero on this shit show …even when they are shown to literally get blown up or what not, with 0.0% chance of surviving a jobbing…and everyone assumes their character is done n gone, these characters somehow someway ended up ‘surviving the impossible to survive jobbing’ and reappear at a later time/date…mostly after luffy defeats boss(villain) that jobbed them…btw, defeated boss never dies too.

so, i’m watching the arcs before save ace arc…seeing that no one dies on the show, which is total bs when you can see that there is no fucking way to survive…(remember the old dude that helped luffy and company that had daughter give them a scooter that got lighting bolted by that god tier villain in that sky country? remember that miraculous "i just evaded said lightning bolt that took out an area like a nuke??? remember?)
…so i say to myself, "ok, i get it, its cheesy and its cornball that no one dies on this show, then i accept that Oda is trying to make it somewhat lighthearted in the anime/manga’s feel. ok. i accept it. no matter how ludicrous these miraculous aversions to death by these numerous characters.
no one dies to keep the work called one piece lighthearted.

so i reach the save ace arc…and i finished ep 500 today…and i’m just…just completely disillusioned with the show.
here’s why.
1)i like everyone else had to sit through something like 20+ episodes of watching luffy go through the hell of reaching level 5 of impel down(prison) to get to ace, only to find, he aintz there, so now he has to rinse n repeat the hell of going from level 5 back up to level 1,…still can’t catch up to ace…ok ok ok…
so now they reach marinefold…marine headquarters…and i, we ALL have to go through 40+ eps of watching luffy to to reach the executioner’s platform, while a huge WW2 type war is going on between Shinohige’s pirates and the Navy…
so after the EXHAUSTING 40+ episodes of watching an Ivankov-roided up Luffy running his heart out to get up to Ace…he reaches it, saves Ace, (thank god, not because i care that Ace lives, but that this waaaaaaay exaggerated drawing out of episodes to luffy saving his bro is finally over, type of relief), and they run back to pirate ships to escape.
magma admiral talks some shit to ace, ace turns around, gets immediately+easily jobbed,
by a fire-user no less!..makes sense said sarcastically
dies in luffy’s arms, luffy goes crazy.

if ace is gonna die, don’t make us sit through 60+episodes of watching luffy running towards him for god’s sake. just decapitate homboy on the executioner’s platform. Mr. Oda, don’t draw shit out pointlessly. and have the arc end soooo anti-climatically. damn. i can’t believe i sat through all that drawn out and way over the top ‘save bro+pirate/navy war’ arc.

2)why kill off one of the most liked characters on the anime show/manga. i KNOW he musta gotten massive harte mail for killing off ace in the manga, it was a mistake to stick with that stupidity with the anime. they should have adapted or changed all that in the anime. he should have survived in the anime…it would have made 10000x more sense if he did.
and why start now.
why start with peeps dying on the show with of ALL people Ace, luffy’s bro???
if oda is gonna be having people dying on his show, why start there of all places in timeline.
why not have people dying since alabaster arc?? or the very begining since first 50 episodes,…why around episode 480 would you start jobbing characters? wut?
what is this? what is oda thinking?!?

3)after Luffy jogged 10,000 miles and fought 100 S-tier bosses to reach him, when they are 5 feet from a pirate boat and freedomz…Ace ends up dying in his arms,…
and causes Luffy to go bat shit nuts.

this is soooooo the complete opposite of the feel and atmosphere of the ONE PIECE universe.

Oda screwed this shit up big time, at least for me.
luffy, luffy is too innocent of a character to go through major mind bending trauma like this.
we all know Luffy is like Goku. they have innocence and pure hearts. they can’t experience shit like that.
i.e. they can’t be cheery and care-free after some shit like this.
and unlike goku, luffy has no access to dragonballs(ressurrection of friends)
that ability of being able to bring back fallen bros is the only thing that kept goku in DBZ sane.
luffy doesn’t have said luxury.
how is luffy gonna laugh and smile and be lighthearted and carefree after seeing his bro jobbed in front of him and die in his arms???
luffy, like you, me, and everyone else isn’t gonna recover from epic trauma like that.
its like if chichi got jobbed in front of goku and no dragonballs exist anywhere in dbz universe to correct said offense.
goku is either gonna go crazy, die of broken heart, or turn evil and go into murderous rampage mode.
he aintz gonna recover and start laughing and be cheery and merry after some shit like that. no matter how much time passes.
now, some OTHER character that is NOT pure or innocent in heart can recover from trauma like that, but carefree+lighthearted goku? nope. and luffy thats based on goku isn’t recovering either. that type of character doesn’t recover from shit like that.
yeah, i know, manga is way ahead of anime and luffy recovers…blah blah.
nah man. this one piece jumped the shark with ace’s death.
it doesn’t work.
show ruined.
everything after this huge mistake of changing the atmosphere to its complete polarity just doesn’t work at all.

i know some of you are still fans of this show, but, for me. i have no interest in watching anything else related to this show ever again. i have no interest reading the manga either.
now if at the end of this One Piece, if Roger’s treasure has some magical object/propery/what not,…like a genie’s lamp, where luffy gets one magical wish and gets to wish his bro back and does…then maybe the save ace arc makes some degree of sense…
but i’d say the damage is done, for me at least.

i’m really pissed that oda fucked up the atmosphere of this show man. he went waaaay too dark with this arc. way way too dark and gloomy. totally does not fit with the previous arcs of the show. its not one piece anymore. it doesn’t mesh with the rest that preceded it.
makes no sense.

you can tell by the massiveness of this post. well, thats my 2 cents.

I have to disagree with you a little bit. There’s certain things about Oda that sets him apart from other manga writers. You make it though him not killing someone off as a bad thing however, I view it as a positive. Also Oda feels as though if someone’s dream is crushed that has more impact on them then simply killing off the character. Thus far characters who haven’t been killed off eventually played a part later on in the story line which is also pretty cool. Yeah some people do survive miraculous shit but however, it is a manga after all.

Getting on to the death’s that you’re talking about I also disagree with you. When I read those chapters I was on the edge of my seat hoping to see him get to Ace and then when the war at Marine HQ was happening I was going nuts. Never has all of those heavy hitters been in the same place at once to date in the manga. We’ll prob won’t see it again it was simply great to see that. Once again Oda is building suspense with the rescue Ace arc if he kills him ASAP we don’t get the build or the story we got to see unfold in the prison and at Marine HQ. We also got some information on buggy’s power which was cool to find out about. We got to see the resurgence of Buggy, Croc and see Blackbeard finally show his ambitions. You’ve complained about the lack of death however, you should take from it how meaningful the deaths from this arc is. Because as you’ve stated Oda just doesn’t kill of anyone and yet he killed of the strongest man in the OP world and Luffy’s brother. The aftermath and fall out has yet to be seen from these deaths so I suggest you strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

As for the lightheartedness of the show being ruined I disagree with this also the show is still lighthearted however, it shows how much serious things are become. The games over and people are playing for keeps now. I mean we thought that the grandline was the graveyard of pirates however, luffy and co ran through it like it was nothing. We’re on the cusp of the new world. Everything that’s been built up has been to this nothing will be the same. Run wild towards the new world. Also it would of been terrible for them to change Ace’s death in the anime. That’s where the majority of animes go wrong when they decided to do something different than what the author intends for the story.

YES! Oda came back with some serious bidnaz! I knew Luffy was hiding in Megalo but the crew all being there was a complete shocker. I was equally impressed by Nami’s weather mastery with her advanced mirage technique. I do wonder what the full plans were but I guess we’ll have to wait until next week! Warpath Luffy and Zoro are going to be really exciting to watch, along with seeing Hyouzou’s skills.

Luffy’s grand entrance was epic, as was everyone else’s. I wonder if he heard Hody’s ranting’s from inside Megalo’s stomach? Whatever the case, we do know one thing for sure: Some asshole made his new friend cry and he’s going to bring the pain! I’m especially glad that the entire crew arrived on the scene for that kickass group shot, Keimi should be there so it’ll be a full set, though (LOL looks like Brook got Zoro’s swords back after all).
