HUGE PREDICTION: After the Straw hats inevitably kick Fishman ass there’s going to be a huge party and Fishman Island becomes yet another chummy ally to Luffy and company. yawn

Not because I disagree with you, because I sorta do, Oda is formulaic and while not super predictable, takes the path of least resistance for a storyline.
Luffy is suppoed to destroy Fishman Island…and while I think its a play on words, I think that between him and the Princess, Fishman Isle is coming to the surface

I concur, there will be some serious repercussions to the whole conflict which will go along with Madame Shirley’s prediction. It may or may not be Luffy but I think Fishman Island will be wrecked.

Yeah, no kidding, but to be honest the last couple of arc leading to the 2 year jump were much less formulaic once the crew got zapped away by Kuma. I thought for sure it would just be your typical Luffy learns a new skill, makes some new friends, beats the bad guys, saves his bro and party time!
But after Ace and Whitebeard die and Luffy gets his brains scrambled, it actually renewed my interest in the series.
I’m hoping Oda will ride this momentum and continue giving OP that less than predictable edge. They’re in the New World now, time to make a new formula.
So what we all knew is finally confirmed.

[details=Spoiler] Well by now we all knew Hody was responsible for killing Otohime but Madame Shirley reaffirming her prediction was surprising. Seems there’s no misunderstanding anymore, Luffy will destroy Fishman island… and Vander Decken’s recent action definitely seems to support this. I’m pretty sure that the ship is one of the World Destroyers as well. (What makes this potentially broken is that the pieces of the ship might be locked on to Shirahoshi as well, so that’s going to be a challenge if that’s the case.)
If Luffy is really hiding in the shark and not at the castle I am impressed by his silence so far. He would usually rear his impulsive head at this point.[/details]

(Yeah, the “action” will probably start in a couple of weeks, though I again feel that quite a bit happened this week. Then again, as I’ve said before, I guess I’m just content with talking as long as the talking actually reveals something. Less assholishly, I suppose it would be hypocritical of me to focus on that considering I’m sure I stuck around way longer in the Bleach thread even though I felt it was shit for at least an entire year. So let’s move on to more important replies.
I’d really like to know what author (of anything) isn’t “formulaic” if we’re going to keep bringing up that charge, especially with how long One Piece has gone on and how many arcs it’s done compared to other manga–cough Bleach**cough. Honestly, people. Stop bringing up formulaic like it’s even a bad thing.
Anyway, regardless of any possible validity of that accusation, I still find it unlikely that this arc will have a uniformly happy ending for “the good guys”, especially with Noir basically set to go Sephiroth on everyone’s ass now.
I actually honestly wasn’t sure that Hodi was behind it. I honestly thought that Vander Decken was, but it just seems like he was conveniently around. I guess that makes sense since they didn’t really seem to meet until this arc and even now they’re not really communicating with each other since I can’t imagine that Hodi would be cool with the Vander Decken’s “I SUMMON METEOR!” plan.
Still, it’s interesting to note that the Mato Mato no Mi is rather like Kuma’s ability just like how Brooke’s new ability is similar to an aspect of Perona’s powers. Makes wonder now if, in addition to that “throw someone at himself” question, what exactly he’s limited at “throwing” at another, especially if haki gets involved. Hmm…

I doubt she’s confident about Luffy being the one to destroy the island, especially with Vander Decken’s recent actions. I’d say that she did it more to undermine Hodi’s confidence, especially given how famously accurate her predictions are. Given that Luffy and Vander Decken both wear hats that look somewhat similar, it honestly seems like a toss-up, especially with Noir headed for where Shirahoshi now.
Hell, is Madame Shirley (or anyone else in the public at large) even aware that Vander Decken is even on the island? The only people that know presently for sure are Neptune himself, the ministers, whatever grunts where there, Hodi & his allies and the Strawhats; I guess we could count the citizens that saw Luffy Yoga Strike him into the ground, but they’re all nameless and I doubt most know who he is.
Anyway, did anyone else do a double take when Hodi casually revealed that Madame Shirley and Arlong seem to be brother and sister? Unless that’s a translation error, it seemed to come out of left field, especially given how fishman genetics are; I mean, they’re both sharks, but that didn’t really make me think they were related. I can’t imagine they’re very close or anything, but still it’s a weird relationship to establish, especially so nonchalantly…[/details]

The only match-ups I’m 100% sure are correct is Luffy vs Hody and Usopp vs Ikaros (Fireball Star + Ikaros = Fried Squid).

Yeah, that Madam Shirley reveal came out of nowhere. Might play a little into why she is so sure that Luffy will be the one to destroy the island.
Either way, guessing Luffy most definitely will be at the plaza within the next few chapters, but Zoro will have to get rescued first for his swordsman fight.

Madame Shirley and Arlong being related is random but not that shocking seeing how Tom and his bro are polar opposites as well.
I still kind of wish Decken at least needed arm strength to toss his objects. sigh
