One Piece non action isn’t anything amazing. It’s usually someone crying giant miyazaki tears after someone dies or something. You act as if all I want to see in anything is fighting. In One Piece, yeah, I want to see fighting. It’s because it’s the same story every time.
New island, met new characters who we have to learn the whole backstories to so we can fell emotionally connected to when bad crap happens to them, bad crap happens, luffy saves them, someone who we had to feel bad for might die (usually they don’t, but they do get clobbered pretty hard when they stand up for themselves in some dramatic moment), then luffy has a fight with the bad guy and punches them. The crew probably had little fights with the bad guys lesser bad guys before that.
I come for the silliness and the fights. Everything else just gets in the way. Robin face hilarity aside, nothing happened. ME VSLASH, WANT FIGHTS.
PS - Read Berserk, it publishes once a month basically. It makes sense because of how insanely detailed it is. ( I don’t really get the “IT’S ALWAYS DELAYED” mentality it’s fans have because of how amazing it looks. It’s a western comic wolf in manga sheep clothing) It is a generic fantasy story that is told very well. Everything is dipped in a depressing coat of grey and it’s hyper violent to the point of hilarity.
Next up I have to read all of battle angel whatever it was called.

Like I said, I understand your decisions for not reading, I just don’t agree with them for the most part. As for the same things happening, eh, that’s pretty inevitable. Tropes are not bad and nothing stays that original or avoids repetition for long, especially if it’s a long work.
It does seem best to just take a break if you continue at all. I’m not going to judge you for that. But harping on how Oda being…Oda is a bad thing all of a sudden doesn’t really help your case or, you know, actually affect anything. It’d be like me wasting words on how I still think Kishimoto and Kubo are (comparatively) hacks–Kubo more so than Kishimoto.
P.S. I am aware of how well-detailed and “western” (and generally fucked up) Berserk is. I just was under the impression that it wasn’t being updated at all given the author’s apparent infatuation with things like Idolmaster. If it’s not on indefinite haitus still like Hunter x Hunter is, perhaps I’ll finally look into it.
P.S.S. I will not be deceived by Kubo again, at least any time soon. Just because Bleach sporadically has (seemingly) good chapters doesn’t make it any less shitty as a whole. Maybe if Kubo addresses some things intelligently and stops giving Ichigo free handouts (while still having him somehow be an utter loser who gets his ass kicked by everyone) I’ll let myself be drawn in again, but for now I’m content to just lurk in that thread without posting.
P.S.S.S. I believe you’re talking about Battle Angel Alita. I’ve heard that’s good, but outside of some really random things I’ve learned about it mostly from TVTropes and that the main character was apparently some type of inspiration for Cammy, I know nothing of it.
He was referring to me. We both saw FMA: Brotherhood in its entirety over the span of 2 weeks by watching the same episodes on the same day, it was a fun ride.
I think he’s just a fan of the pacing, since the plot condenses and moves speedily. The thing is, in order to do this I notice a lot of “coincidences” occurring to facilitate the plot advancement (namely, characters meeting up at the same place all the time even though they were headed in arbitrary directions miles away). That’s not really a criticism however, because the intriguing story and interesting characters (King Bradley ALL DAY!) made for an good story.
But, it’s over now…
Back to ONE PIECE…
Something I’ve wondered about Vander Decken’s power- If he threw an object like a large ship and Luffy destroyed it, I wonder if the fragments would still count as projectiles since they were technically a part of whole ship? That would be pretty broken…
Oh bleach is bad. I won’t defend them being good authors as a whole, but it’s just right now things are happening in Bleach and it’s a fun little read.
Once Jinbei judo fights Luffy I will enjoy free one piece again. Until then it will be made fun of for having an 8 chapter flashback that could have been done in three chapters. Especially an 8 chapter flashback right when the new crew was getting a chance to strut their stuff which is what everyone wanted to see after the time skip. It’s like Oda intentionally cut his ships sail when it was picking up a nice gust of wind.
It seems like Berserk comes out once a month now really. When I was finally catching up to the recent ones it would say “Next issue out may whatever!” and the next would say “June 26th!” and so on.
June 26th is the next berserk, maybe that will change. If it does, I will be sad and hate berserk.
A lot of those coincidences in FMA were attributed to people actively searching or following one another. But yeah random lol encounters forever.
Also don’t attribute the trope saying to One Piece. It is long for the sake of long. Once a week manga format is such a crappy format for everyone but those who get it for free.
Authors have to slave over their work and just drag it out like a piece of taffy. Why not just put out one really solid chapter of 40 pages a month? Oh the Japanese, what a silly culture.
actually despite the large dip in readership post Aizen, it actuall is shaping up nicely and with a direction again. However the lack of ‘text’ slows things down a it too much to compete with OP - it nonetheless is actually solid.
Fukaboshi? Really? I still like Jinbei. Perhaps Luffy is going to mess him up in their fight, which will put Jinbei at normal-strawhat-crew level, letting him join.
Was anybody else reminded of the Straw Hats being imprisoned in Crocodile’s HQ back in Alabasta? I mean Zoro, Usopp, and Brook are locked up in a trap designed by a 007 villain, yet they’re still bickering with each other and clowning around!

Anyhoo, here’s a (shorter) retyping of it…
-Luffy’s in Gear 2nd mode but his skin isn’t red (another hint at his mastery of the technique?)
-Zoro’s looking badass with a red demon skull behind him (a new demonic spirit attack?)
-Nami’s got some serious sideboob/underboob action going on (oh, and those Weatheria orbs are gonna rock, too)
-Usopp’s showing off some new ammunition for Black Kabuto (WHAT IS IT?!)
-Sanji’s Diable Jambe appears to have evolved (the red hot leg is now a FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES leg)
-Chopper’s in a new transformation Point (looks like a mix of his other Points with a hint of Mega Man)
-Robin’s abilities intrigue me (can she blossom an entire clone now?)
-Franky’s rocking a War Machine shoulder cannon (“SUPAH FRANKY WAR DESTROYER!!!”)

Also, Jinbe should know Luffy well enough by now to know that he’s not going to back down when some asshole is fucking with his crew.
Luffy’s Gear Secondo has been shown to be able to activate at specific areas of his body if he chooses, so him not being fuming red isn’t so surprising.
I did take note of Robin more than anyone else, I always felt she could do something like clone herself but I always figured it would take massive amounts of focus mentally. Just like her arm wings that she made in Thriller Bark.
And Zoro was donning his “IT’S ON!” bandana, so I think the skull just represented his true demon spirit! :badboy:
I was just glad to see that Zoro still has his ‘shit just got real’ bandanna. He hasn’t used it yet(hell, no one in the crew has gotten ‘serious’ just yet), so when he does… Somebody’s gonna get bodied.
Fishman Karate is too good. Now there’s a martial art I would like to master.

The Strawhats showing their new abilities in a time of crisis. Robin with her clone body and Brook’s new spirit power is awesome! I wonder if someone who can you C.O.A. can nab him though? Zoro should have a small knife on him at all time like Mihawk so he can cut anything when necessary.
[details=Spoiler]At least so far, Jinbei still seems incredibly powerful. I liked the short explanation of how Fishman Karate works. Honestly, I’m surprised that I’ve never thought about how Fishman Karate could manipulate the water inside people; for a while, I assumed that it was Haki-based.
Also, I find it interesting that Oda showed a few panels of Daruma destroying Big Mam’s candy factory. To me it seems a little more likely that Big Mam might get dragged into this conflict.
Lastly, the scene where Brook is showing off his new powers was hilarious (especially the part about how his skills are becoming more and more befitting of a dead guy, lol).[/details]
When Brook said something about guess what I did first?! I’ll bet he was all up in girls bedrooms/bathrooms catching peeks. Pretty cool to see the upgrades the rest of the crew are getting.
