just read 1st post and would like to briefly reiterate a story I posted here before:
Was riding while white with my white Mormon friend in Schenect and it was late and saw some girls walking on the street. It was late, they looked out of place so my friend offered them a ride home. What I found out later was I think a worker in a drugstore outside saw what happened, apparently said I ‘looked like a rapist’, whatever that means and called the cops. We eventually got to an intersection and cop cars decended from all angles, put cold steel to my boys temple, threaten to kill, screraming berate us with all sorts of profane names, cuffs back of car, etc… Eventually it got sorted out when they got all information a while later. So just understand that I personally dont really feel use of this story as great evidence of institutionalized racism. A good portion of cops where some people live just happen to be criminal hooligans who them try to cover their own backsides with dumb excuses.
Also: stories like the one above are really just the tip of the badcopiceberg.

Just because cops are dicks in some instances like yours, doesn’t they were justified as well. I understand cops have to have a tough guy attitude, and a lot of instances need to flex their authority. But when they need to sort out instances of “should this girl belong here” like these, I definitely do not see a need. They could just ask, check, hell even haul them to the precinct. But threaten to kill? Handcuff? For what? I’m sure you guys were complying, just like the people in the original article. There’s absolutely no need for that kind of aggressive behavior.

institutionalized racism wasnt even the topic at hand, just plain old prejudice or racism. i mean, race had nothing to do with it, besides you know the cop allegedly saying, “you two are black and she is white”, and even after asking the mother if she was aware her daughter is with two black men in houston texas, explaining to the officer yes, hes a family friend, he has temporary guardianship, they are coming back from dancing, blah blah blah, he thought to himself, eh, take her to cps, even though i have no right to, and let them go, we’ve destroyed them mentally enough.
if you are gonna sit here and tell me that if that was two white males of the same age, the cop would have put them through the same ringer, then i think youre just being willfully ignorant to the struggles of racism in this country still in 2013. just because it aint the 1930s anymore, or even the 90s, doesnt mean shits all good. i mean, we got a black president right. lol.
also, no offense, but you were picking up some random girls on the street (not that, that should make you an automatic rapist, and people are allowed to make decisions to get rides from strangers without someone thinking they are rapist) , not already riding along with them, had legal guardianship with them, and even got their mothers on the phone to let the cops know that you knew them, they were friends and have come over to your house many of times.
in your case you faced a worst case scenario from just a random friendly gesture, and you guys did not deserve to be treated like animals for it. a simple pull over and questioning of the activities by the cop would have sufficed. when i read your story, i read a story about asshole cops going way over the top for no reason at all other then what some random person thinks that you are based off of no evidence whatsoever. you cannot compare your story to the original one imo. they went from asshole cops, to possible racist when all the evidence provided for them was not enough, and pointing out race to the young man as if that should be a factor he MUST accept.
now whats next, is someone gonna come in and say, that black guy is probably lying about the race thing, and the mother is just mad and making things up, cops arent that dumb, they wouldnt do that. lol

I’m going to disagree with this. 1) Maybe she wants to be there, but parents don’t know where the hell she is. Even with paperwork, it could be forged. 2) I don’t know how often this happens, but Stockholm syndrome could make her actually want to stay with the oppressors.
Totally fine with calling the mom. Hell, going the extra step in taking them to the station and verifying the story a little more just to be sure (like was the person on the phone really the mom?). But since I’m sure the 2 guys were cooperative and the teenager was emphatically saying she’s okay, it shows the cops went overboard in their aggression.
