Omron D2RV-G-SD3 - Purchased a few Silent JLFs from different vendors and received a few DOA units... 1 dead switch

So I need to vent…

I purchased a total of 5 silent jlfs (gen 3) to be put in my fighticks (I have a few…) and honestly really got into having things silent yet buttons didn’t bother me but the clicky switches from my lever did.

So long story short 3 were DOA, now when I opened the first 1 I did change the gate to an octo as some characters ARE better on an octo gate and the rest I prefer square gates or even circular gates…

These switches are BRITTLE… so to figure out the problem I needed to open the switch up “it’s doa and might as well use the 1 that I removed the sticker as arcadeshock wouldn’t take it back” so there is a tiny metal piece underneath underneath the switch button well… it kinda wasn’t put together, so when I reassembled the switch it works!

I do NOT recommend buying the silent JLF because 3/5 or 60% is huge! Thankfully it was the same problem on every switch so easy fix, I do recommend desoldering otherwise you will break the housing of the switch… so 1 of my switches is now housed in a standard jlf switch.

This is my own experience, I have received defective stuff from sanwa before but 3 levers is a bit much… Also there is a very brittle point on the switch itself, too much force and you break the switch, they can be broken even from removing the restrictor plate…

So if you want a cheaper silent JLF “it’s still close…”
A JLF “your stick likely came with one” if not $20
PAS sells the D2RV-G switches $26
Optional:
Otto V5 as you do want a 1 piece restrictor gate $25
Gamerfinger optical PCB: $25-30 (you’ll need to know how to know where to solder on your PCB and of course how to solder)

Total: $26 if you just replace the switches
$46 if you buy a new JLF and switches
$51 if you buy the switches and otto diy v5 kit
$71 if you buy a new jlf, switches, and otto diy v5 kit

This is more for other readers, but I get to you in a second.

Try/Test out before you apply any mods.

These switches, as well any any other switch used in every single Joystick was never intended for arcade use, they design for various industrial/Commercial use thats been re-purpose for Arcade joysticks. Switches are hella expensive to develop.

This Hobby isn’t cheap.

Now to SonRukiri,

DOA ? Return IT. As you said it is too expensive to get.

Consider optical mods or the Project Magenta

I was at a 15 year streak with 0 issues with Sanwa so I just assumed… I only modded 1 but the other 2 had at least 1 dead switch or a switch that didn’t activate properly… At the end of the day it’s not a big deal, can just replace the PCB version with the same switches but just need a harness. SD-2 was a custom switch because D2RV-G never had a yellow plunger was always black/grey. PAS sells the same switches but in 2 variants D2RV-G is a kit, and D2RV-LG is the individual switch.

But I am likely going optical when I build a new stick next month.
