Olympia Fightclub!

Sorry it took me so long guys. I had a cold going into Mother Russia and it only got worse and it took me two days to recover. I also had to dismantle my laptop and perform some surgery. It runs much better now and has not overheated since.

I would also like to apologize to AburnFlags for not recording his match, but hell I already uploaded your first FT5 set with Arcade Elite anyway so…

After analyzing Vincents grueling gauntlet I have come to realize something. I am not happy with the current status of the Cammy challenge. Vincent and I have come up with a set of rules:

  1. The champion should not need to drown himself in challengers match after match which is no one’s fault really but I must lay out some ground rules. From know on the Cammy challenge shall be held like this.

  2. Once a month there must be a date set for the Cammy challenge either at OCC or at Mother Russia. A week prior to the challenge date their must be a tournament to decide who gets the right to face the champion; said tournament will be single elimination. Both challenger and champion must be present on the decided date and the champion will be determined by a FT5 match.

  3. In the event where the challenger is a “no show” the next in line can take their place up to 3rd place. If the champion is absent then the trophy is up for grabs. There will be another tournament to determine the champion with the top 3 being power seeded.

  4. Contenders MUST BE IN THE LOCAL AREA.

  5. So there can only be one Cammy challenger per month, which will be recorded, not counting the “right to fight” tournament, which doesn’t need to be recorded.

No more of this relentless FT5 matches. Vincent said it was fun but not the best way to prove who’s the best or who deserves the trophy.

Part 2 will be up tomorrow.

Man, hearing my voice on the mic is so weird…

Anyway, it seems to me that the audio levels may be too high, it cracks a lot.

Glad to see we have some rules associated with the cammy trophy, I was going to sit down with Vince and Josh Thursday and try to hash something like this out, glad I don’t have to now. Although I do have a few questions.

-When we do host a tournament will the highest placed local player gain the rights to the trophy or is it only available via challenges?
I like the idea of having the monthly tournament rankings also determine who holds the cammy statue as surviving in tournament is a whole different kind of skill.

-Because Vince just ran the gauntlet I’m going to assume we’ve all used up this months ‘ticket’ to challenge so the soonest anyone else could challenge would be March 1st?

In other news listening to Jordan on mic got me thinking about how each of us will do as commentators. Which I want us all to do from time to time especially if we start streaming our tourneys in lakewood (when we work that out)

Jordan knows alot about the game so he’s kind of a knowledge base, he mostly plays the straight man on the mic though he does throw in the occasional quip which I like - keeps it fresh.

Josh knows everything about the game and is a total knowledge base he’s great to be on the mic with because he’ll flow well with anyone being able to answer any question and throw in his analysis of the match. (Not sure how well Jordan + Josh would be two straight men = 1 gay stream do the math it checks out)

Greenshirt is just a smooth talkin badass who sound like he needs to be on talk radio show on public radio.

Twins tell terrible jokes and laugh alot, I think either one will add alot of flavor to the stream and, like josh, will mesh well with anyone. But if they were both on the mic I’d equate them to something like an am radio show.

Haven’t heard Myself, Armand, Sam, Richard, Patt, Jay or Drew on the mic (but I’m pretty sure we all know what will happen when drew is on the mic)

My predictions are…

Me being rather silly, I eneded up giving as much shit to people and players as I could when on the mic ala Magus1234 and Aris, but not as funny.

Rich and Patt = gold

Drew = ‘Color’ commentary

Jay = ‘Colored’ commentary (Ok I know I’ve made this joke before but damnit I’m tellin it again!)

Armand I’m pretty sure would play it fairly straight and comment more on the flow of the match rather than the characters.

Sam + Josh = Talking about how terrible streetfighter is (I think this will be great for down time like casuals and such)

uh yeah thats all I can think of, but just listing this out makes me so hype for doing streams, lets go!

Also if we can figure a way to stream from a camcorder we need to get some hype Yomi tournaments streamed.

Start recording for games that aren’t shit, and we’ll talk.

Part 2…

-The “Right to Fight” tourneys are separate from other tournaments, so winners of other tournaments don’t have seeding or anything special, however we can look into this and seed consistent winners accordingly. Typically this isn’t the best format for a ranking battle but because our group is relatively small and interests sporadic, I find this the most effective. If anyone wants to talk about ranking battles and formats than just hit me up.

-Yes we have used up this months ticket so the soonest time would be March 1st, providing there is a “Right to Fight” tournament within 7 days .

With permission from the club I would like to add a custom base to the trophy we possible. The custom base would have a custom title and some graphics. I’ll come up with some type of prototype to show you guys.

Last night I was playing 2 new random guys at TOS in Lakewood in SF4, I know right shocker since I totally don’t play the game anymore, anyway one was decent the other a total scrub. I would have invited them to OCC but the decent player couldn’t stop cursing so I didn’t mention anything other than the fact that OFC exists. If I’m the gate keeper, the benchmark of decent skill, than those guys didn’t pass the test. They were cool people though. I had fun teaching and talking.

I did however invite Nate and Will the marvel players to our gatherings. Whether they show up or not is totally on them. There seems to be big interests not only within our group but also with in TOS for tournaments, which we will talk more about tonight. See you guys there.

i watch one video of Ken vs Gief matchup, gave me the general idea of what i should & should not be doing…Also imma try out that Ultra 2

I would like to ride up to Salty Runback with someone. I’ll put some money in for gas. Just let me know what time we’ll meet up.

Yo I like me on the mic, fuck unbiased commentary that was fun. Looking forward to our tournament I’m April.

In regards to the tournament I will be purchasing a lot of equipment in a few weeks and I would appreciate any type of donation to help me along. If Jordan and Armand still have their target gift cards and aren’t planning to use them would you kindly donate them? It would make me a happy camper.

I have been planning things in my head and we wouldn’t really need too many consoles. We would definitely need to bring games and monitors though. For the stream setup Plan A is SVGA because it has the least amount of lag but if things fall through on that set up then I always have Plan B which is component .(>o<).
I don’t want to go through Plan B because I don’t wanna hear any bitching about input latency, which quite frankly I’m tired of the subject.

I plan to have cards printed up with to help the employees of TOS identify people who have paid the venue fee. On the card will be a logos, and fill-in-the-blank spots for the person’s name, tags, and games they will be participating in. I am debating if I should give “STAFF” there own cards with lanyards, give everyone lanyards, or give no one lanyards. I personally like giving “STAFF” lanyards and special cards and giving everyone else there own plain white cards and a bobby pins.

For anyone that is confused, or you visual learners out there, I’ll have a pictures up later.

In regards to the debate of SVGA vs Component; for what it’s worth, I’ve streamed numerous times with Component IN (to desktop) and HDMI OUT (to player monitor for gameplay) and while I have been known to complain about input lag before, I’ve never noticed any input lag when using these types of cable setups. Obviously my equipment is a little different than what you’re using, but I don’t think the cables themselves can be blamed for anything we can humanly detect imo.

Also, Olympia is in a somewhat unique spot right now to make some progress in the Northwest Fighting Scene. I don’t know if any of you watched the stream of Salty Runback yesterday, but they had Air vs AfroCole in the AE FINALS and only had roughly a dozen people watching… This was really poor planning on their part, as they didn’t even advertise the stream in the SRK tournament section. In any other tournament, a grand finals between two internationally recognized players like that would easily yield thousands of viewers. For Seattle? About a dozen…

After the general apathy i witnessed by the people running the Salty Runback stream, I would say that if we are in a prime position to represent the northwest in streaming for the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area.

If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing correctly.

Hey long times no see dudes. I intend to swing by this Thursday at around 8 for some sweet sweet fighting game commeraderie (or however that word is spelled.) I picked up scv but the system frustrates me, I’ll have to get some live action in. I also want to check out the commentary setup; sounds like you guys have started a mic rotation which sounds great. I could see a us just sort of passively recording one setup all night with an open mic and then throwing it up on the channel.
