As for Evergreen. One it’s really out of the way and Two A club only supports students.
We can move around the couches and table all we want but the danger of that is chipping the floor (so we’d have to be careful) but also that we’d have to pack it up sooner as we’d have to return the space to its former glory. The space there is used for DND groups and people to just sit down and read a comic, it’s usually empty but we’re there but once a week and don’t really provide Gabi with any kind of reliable business, so I don’t want to change too much and overstay our welcome. Not to insinuate that we’re close to overstaying our welcome at all, truth is regardless of how little we really contribute to Gabi’s store she loves having us there.
But I hear what you guys are saying, we need a place at least for tournaments so we can stream, do salty commentary and be less constricted, more than that in fact, is we’re out growing our location. So I want to talk to the people at Oldschool Pizza (where I personally know a manager there) and see if we can have events there. I’d still like to do casuals at Gabis and do tourney’s elsewhere but we’ll have to see. For not we have at least a one time ticket to host a Tournament at the wings place down the street from Gabi’s but I’m not sure if I want to host that Tournament next month (Nov 3rd) a week before Northwest majors, also the very day of my Birthday. So I’d like to do this, have a tournament at the Newyork Native on December 1st, in the time between then and now I want to have flyers (done by the end of October) during November I want to spread those flyers everywhere, by then I’ll have a car so I can help spread them, but I want everyone to print out copies and put them ANYWHERE you think they would be relevant. I want this tournament posted on every fighting game board hell even put it on Craigslist we’re gonna blow this shit up. In the mean time we should do something just as a group either on Halloween night (Monday post 10pm) or do something fun on Nov 3rd(the first Thursday of November), maybe just go out for drinks or something cause it’s mah birthday damnit!

As much as I love Oldschool, I spend an awful lot of time there, and it won’t work for a few reasons:
It’s actually much smaller than Gabi’s. Most of it is booths or small tables, and the area in the back with the arcade cabs couldn’t really suit all of us.
It wouldn’t be practical to record there due to how loud the place is all the time. Doing commentary there would be an utter nightmare, I’m sure.
It’s right next to the transit center, and as such, you get all kinds of freaks and weirdos rolling through. Normally I’m not put off by the idea of being around homeless people and traveling kids, or people riding Mason Transit to here, but my worldview changes REAL QUICK whenever I’ve got expensive things near them in such a vulnerable area. The relative safety in leaving your things laying around in Gabi’s is a luxury we take for granted. I guarantee something expensive would go missing the very first time we held anything at Old School.
Haha well you and Armand can have your MvC3 tourney, but I think that’s just called a money match. A tournament with 2 entries? Actually I feel bad we never got around to doing a marvel tourney I should have tried to get more people interested in marvel, which I swear everywhere but here is all about it.
Nah actually I think Josh, and others, want to do something like a ranbats, which we did before. Just a new game tournament every week something like MvC3, SF3 and maybe like another all random 100% handicap SF4 yomi tourney.
Could work eh? The meeting room would be ideal for a tourney. I am going to findout if sps or evergreen has any room available. Vilmon. Just ask one of your wide eyed liberal profs if they can secure us a classroom! Pull strings!

I like that rental rate. Even the MP-C (Stage) is pretty good too. I like your style Green Shirt. At $14/hr. for 6 hrs. would be $84 is 8 people show up thats $10.50 per person before tax but still a bargain deal if we cap at 25. Definitely more risk to our wallets though if we don’t pull numbers. Gonna have to build up the scene a little more to ensure that we at least 20 regulars to come out for monthlies for success. Plus gonna have to have more than one of us ready to run side tournaments that would mean no lollygagging and more responsibilities for everyone. The only question left is the layout, the rules, and the times available. Contracts the state would have us sign and what not. But I like the way this is going. Time to put away the toys away and get serious!
No. I don’t like that at all. Nothing about it, the money spent the location or the government hand on our event. Look I don’t mind paying much to have a place but not that much and not from everyone, venue fees, tournament entry, house cuts? No might as well be playing at the Mall and have the guy take his 40% off the top in his dark, loud and frankly uncomfortable ‘business’ he’s running. Our best bet is a restaurant, a theatre or a bar cause then we don’t have to pay venue fees we pay and get not only a place but food and drinks! There’s a place not far from where I live called hop jacks, its pretty loud on the bar side but there’s an upstairs area that they might let us use and it’s far enough away from everything that they might not mind us being rowdy . This assumes we don’t enjoy having the tournament at the Newyork native place, since it would seem we’re only looking for a place for tournaments. If we’re looking for casual weekly places it’s got to be Gabi’s or somebody’s house.
Its not gonna replace casuals bro or weekly’s. But the more you know the better. You never know about the venue fees bro that all depends on the establishment that applies even to restaurants, especially if we bring people and they don’t stay to eat and if things don’t turn out the way they want they it might sour future opportunities at other establishments. All I gotta say is thanks for searching for stuff Green Shirt. The more people looking the better because somebody might find something good. So lets continue hunting.
The Oly center is just a suggestion intended to get some brainstorming going. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with paying for a venue. The primary advantage of paying is that no longer are we required not to wear out our welcome. Truth is any free venue is by definition going to be rinky dink. Not that there is anything wrong with that. B)
I’d be cool with hop jacks, even though it’s a bit on the pricey side. I live right there and would be all about being able to walk to and from an event AND drink. Jay lives right by it too.
