Not being able to swear makes you feel like a manchild? I was in the army and cussed constantly. I seem to hold my own.
The whole no cussing thing has been an issue with us for awhile, it’s something we’ve all gotten very accustomed to I find myself cussing less in my daily life cause of Gabi’s rule. However most people see hype streams and want to be involved in that, part of that is swearing. I love Olympia cards and comics its a great venue and honestly all venues have some limitations Gabi’s in no cussing, Playlive is we all have to pay $$, Lopez’s is we have to know and trust you. The fact of the matter is it’s important to Gabi to enforce the no cussing rule I actually think its kind of childish that some people make a big deal of it.
Also because it’s important to her we need to make it clear to new members that the venue is a family friendly establishment and if your dropping f-bombs then we’re out of a venue cause we let new people in who can’t keep themselves in check. I want to make it clear that we all suffer when one person breaks the rules, it hasn’t really been an issue before we’ve had allot of new people come in and we’ve actually never been kicked out or punished in anyway due to cussing.
But on that same note I like what hayden is saying here the term ‘cussing’ itself is the issue NOT the fact that we’re communicating the rule. So I agree we may want to use the term ‘no swearing’ rather than cussing, which does sound childish cause kids call it cussing not swearing or cursing. I’d want to avoid the issue by making a clear "FAMILY FRIENDLY’ marking on the flier but that doesn’t communicate what that means to us. So thanks for the input Hayden =)
I agree, you guys should put “No Fucking Cussing” to make it less childish…
Maybe dont put the rules in the flyer at all, just let them know once they come to the gathering…I think a few people complain about that awhile back when this first started.
Im telling you right now, if they put my Dynamic Bayside Duo pic in there guarantee more people will come but they just dont listen…
I have no issues with the no swearing rule. It’s a family business. I understand where she’s coming from. I work in residential homes and private businesses a lot so the same rule applies for me at work. But the word itself “cussing” was my main complaint. Seems so, playground-ish.
I love the old boxing poster design.You should change the font to a more old timey style to fit with the theme and it would look even better. And just other general refining from a non paint made version. 
I only have trouble with the word damn for no swearing unless I mutter something under my breath.

Ya the “fightcard” flyer looks good I would add a patterned texture and some gradients to make it give it that “aged” look. Probably stroke the border and alter the text a tad as well. But I think the “fightcard” flyer would be better for tournament promotions or a major instead of a normal recruiting poster.
Yeah, I was going to mentioned trying to find a texture for the ‘paper’ to give it that aged look as well. I also have some ideas for the character portraits.
Since Josh said he’s bringing his setup I wont bring my TV today, since that makes 3 setups, unless you think we need my TV for something (like hooking up the roxio or whatever).

Not to bring up a dying subject but I felt that I should add that I don’t disagree with the no swearing rule at OCC. At the end of the day it’s the kids who bring in the $$$ so Gabi must cater somewhat to that customer base. Also, and I think more importantly to Gabi, OCC is meant primarily to be a safe alternative for otherwise potentially troubled lacey/oly youth to come on a friday night instead of getting into trouble.
On that note, haven’t you guys occasionally found it odd what words will bring the wrath of Gabi and what other words won’t? One time she THOUGHT I said “F you son!” (literally just the letter F) and came over to get on our cases about it. Then later I hear people use words like gay, nigger, retarded, the list goes on. These words are likely “frowned upon” but I’ve never witnessed anyone getting a warning for using them. I am not personally offended when I hear these words from a friend or someone who I know knows better, and you all know I use them myself (sometimes excessively) in the right company. I just wonder if Gabi realizes that if say I had a kid, I’d be more apprehensive leaving them around an establishment that seems to implicitly condone using those words than one where F-bombs can be heard.
Finally, I don’t think the flier needs to specify no swearing or cussing, “family establishment” or something is fine. We can let people know when they get there. If I saw a flier for an event that prominently displayed “no cussing,” I would not go to that event, plain and simple.
Edit: We should also think about adding instructions on how to get to this thread… maybe “google “olympia fightclub shoryuken” to check us out online!”

My friend’s father is a Deputy with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department. He went to OCC once on a routine business check, saw something Captain America related, said that it was “Fuckin’ sweet” and got basically run out of the store. OCC don’t fuck around with the no swearing rule.
I personally don’t like the rule, but I can understand it. To be honest, I think Gabi just comes from a background where profanity is frowned upon, and carries that over to her business. There aren’t very many “kids” in OCC, even though every so often I’ll see a comic enthusiast bring their children there. Comic book stores like this are catered towards adults and I think everyone here knows it.
It’s hard to get to know a group of people and relax while also having to really watch your mouth and measure everything you say. Gabi’s is great, and I wouldn’t trade Thursday nights for anything, but I think it’s kind of unfortunate that OCC is the only option new players have at first.

My week seems pretty stacked since I’ll be in Lacy, Mercer Island, Renton and Edgewood due to work. I know those are the places we will be for work. I just don’t know what days. I plan on asking him tomorrow to get off work early thursday so I can try and make it down to OCC.
