What’s up suckas. I just got back from Oregon!
Yes its Sunday, looking to having some good games there. Also we can best on people online to show that Olympia is not free OLYMPIA FIGHT CLUB!!!.
Good games to everyone last night.
The highlight of the show was us :rock:OLYMPIA FIGHT CLUB  beasting on people online and showing them that we got game. I don’t know how it feels to lose to jab but, winning a game with jab is
It feels terrible…
Wassup Olympia peoples,
I think Ryan has talked to some of you about Battle for Seattle, but if not I am just going through the northwest forums and touching base in all the sub-region threads we have. Anyways, it’s may 28th+29th in U-district, has a bunch of games, will have a ton of people, with raffle drawings for prizes and you also get to see my cute face.
Checkout seattleretro.org for more info and pre-registration!
Going to Battle For Seattle. Also…
My brother and I went to the mall to check out the new play smart, now called play live. It’s just like the one in Tacoma. They just open up’ed yesterday so there trying to get things rolling. Okay to us. It was a nice place, the people there were kind, and they have the games there we can play. Now the pro’s and con’s.
Pro’s
-We can meet new people there and expand our DOOM ARMY!!! MUHA!
-The game selection they had.
-I think the location is great. (OLY!)
-Next to the food court.
Con’s
-The $$$.
-Day’s we can meet.
-Maybe the TV’s (I think there was some TV lag)
-To me the light’s (can’t play in the dark)
So aburnflags you should check it out. we are just throwing this up in the air to let you guys know and all.
Hey is this Play Live in Olympia? As in Capital Mall?
Anyway, i need to know who is coming here this Friday to Mother Russia? I really need to start practicing my ST, you know cuz of my Gief being baby zone. I cant seem to do anything on japanese sticks haha…
/\ yes rcaido play live is in Olympia capital mall they do not have any arcade cabs in there so no old school ST .
we are going rcaido anyway i need train in ST too
Did they remove the Tilt there?
I’ll try and check out the play live place as soon as I’m able I highly doubt they will meet our needs however for the following reasons
-Need lag free tvs
-They most likely close early (9pm)
-I doubt they have free internet or decent internet period
-I doubt they would let us play each week without charging us
-I doubt they are looking for fighting game people, most likely they are trying to reach out to shooting
-There’s nothing they can provide for us that we don’t have access to at OCC
It would benefit us in some ways should we attract people from seattle, tacoma and portland but it would take a large, semi sponsored and big pay out event to attract them. I’m not sure OCC would be ready or willing to handle a big tournament. So play live would have to serve that role if we did organize a large tournament.
Which leads me to ask you guys is that something you want? Assuming Josh and I can figure out how to stream and Gaby would allow it, maybe doing a twice a year big tournament. I’ve been considering getting prizes for a raffle, something like for every five dollars spent at OCC would = one ticket. Possibly running Street fighter, MvC3 and HDR? I think it’s what we would need to do to not only get better but to put Olympia fight club on the map and attract more people to our weekly casuals.
I plan on checking it out sometime soon but I think Ryan is pretty much accurate with his assumptions. Personally though I wouldn’t mind paying a venue fee if we got a good deal on it. So like he said, it seems like a good option for a tournament.
I think it would be very tough to get a large tournament set up that would attract people from other areas, but I definitely would love to see it happen. One advantage of Oly is it is a great midway point between Seattle and Portland. I’ll definitely try and help think up ideas to make it happen though. One thing is though that it would be very difficult to do it at OCC because of space and it’s layout. They would kind of have to give us a lot of the from room for it to work, as the comics section has too much stuff and would be difficult to impossible to rearrange for us. Luckily there is nothing official going on for card games on Thursdays as far as I’m aware of, so if there ever was a day we could get them to let us use the front, that would probably be it. For this theoretical biannual event we might have to pay Gab a venue fee for the space. The space we have now barely cuts it if I’m honest, and it definitely wouldn’t work for a large tournament.
I’m going to try to make it to Mother Russia this week, but I’m not 100% yet. I’ve got plans with a friend coming up on either Thursday or Friday (we haven’t decided yet), so if it ended up being Friday I wouldn’t be able to make it for more than a few hours. Same goes for Thursday if I ended up doing that on Thursday (which is the day I’ll probably be going for honestly). I should know by tomorrow sometime.
Well here is your chance guys to expand, you guys need to strike now since its still new. You need to start talking to people & steal their customers & invite them to the OCC. Tell them its free just like you guys haha…
Yes rcaido they did and it might not come back.
@ aburnflags I do like your point and its kind of a wast of money. What I herd them say is in tournaments the winner would only get free play time :lame:. I know when we do tournaments we all want the money but, I do want to steel players from them and make our fight club a little bigger. If I have to take out some money to find good players to join us I will but… they have to be cool and they do look up on youtube for infinits .
You guys like reading?
So we stopped by there yesterday to see what was up with the place. The owner’s name is Duncan, and he basically is only interested in one thing: Money.
We tried talking to him about ways we could help each other but he just kept offering us cuts of money to bring players in. I probably spoke with him for a solid 20 minutes straight (19+ minutes were of his incessant rambling about Olympia being some kind of El Dorado for video games) and it was actually a little off-putting to hear his ‘pitch’.
Not once did I ever mention money to this guy- NOT ONCE, and yet all he could do was talk about how he wants to give us money for bringing in players, like we’re some kind of promotional team. Of course, he’s a business man, and this place was built off money from his investors, so he’s obviously concerned with money at some capacity, but his ideas were pretty damn wacky from my perspective.
That said, he has agreed to letting me freely come and test out the input-lag of his monitors to see if they would work for us, and in an effort to get more fighting-game players involved, he also seemed agreeable to letting our entry fees slide (or at least be cheaper) for a single gathering to hype the place up for SSF4 or MVC3.
His big pitch is that he plans on doing intense statistic gathering, and league-based offerings for us, which, in my opinion, is nothing we couldn’t already do on our own. Not only that, but we could do it faster, better, and most importantly- cheaper.
He showed us a playerlist from his personal laptop containing all the sign-ups for upcoming events and tournaments within the month and I’d say there were maybe 100 players listed (not bad for 3 days) and EVERY SINGLE NAME was either signed up for Black Ops, or Halo Reach; and let’s face it, that’s where his money is, and always will be.
He also has a bit of a bad taste in his mouth with regards to Street Fighter players because his store in Tacoma had a rough crowd of disrespectful SSF4 players, and he has carried over that mentality to Olympia, which is unfortunate.
With regards to his hours, he claims that the mall operations team has agreed to allow customers to enter through the food court for access to his store after mall-closing hours. He also says that frequent late-night meetings were something he has on his proverbial ‘radar’.
So in summation I would say that the only possible advantage this place could have is bringing in new player prospects to make the scene bigger, but with the amount of FPS going on in there, the odds of a wayward soul ending up playing SSF4 are low odds indeed.
Nice essay there XeroxHands. So the place is basically a LAN center. It’s a hard knock life… being a street fighter. Is it so hard to just ask for a decent size venue with good internet and set ups with minimal to no lag? I guess so… Its disappointing to hear that but the cons were every present in my mind.
That sounds about like what I expected, Xerox. Thanks for looking into it for all of us, much appreciated.
I know Aburn still plans on going over there on Friday, so maybe he’ll find some sliver of hope there.
I guarantee you he’ll be out of business in a year.
I had planned to check up on it Friday but it seems like xerox did it for me so i suppose Friday I’ll just be buying MK9 from toys r us cause apparently its only 30$ right now there with an in store coupon so anyone who wants to pick it up soon
$30? Fuck, I guess I’m gonna go buy one too
Edit: So I just picked up MK9 for the 360 from the Cooper Point Toys R’ Us and it came to $33.47 after tax. You’ll need the coupon from the in-store coupon book with Michael Jackson (R.I.P) on the cover. You can find these in the actual video game department next to one of their console (wii?) displays. I just asked a girl there and she took me right to it, so they know what’s up.
nice find!
They better know whats up, i made a huge ruckus last time i was there. Those idiots had know idea what magazine coupon i was talking about…$30 is a good deal…
Alright anyone else coming over besides the twins & maybe Jordan this Friday?
Okay peeps I’m headed off to Sea-Town for a few days. Maybe I’ll hit up Gameworks while I’m there. If you guys need anything from me Free Sim and Dirty Rice have my number. I’ll check you guys out later. Peace!
