Actually, I’m not even going to gripe about Vega’s damage output anymore. I’ve played with him enough to realize that he was always meant to be the type of character that is supposed to be able to trick opponents of all levels. Yes, I’m saying that even at high level play it is possible to utilize Vega’s mobility to confuse people. And his Ultra doesn’t even bother me anymore, since I’ve been working on using it as an anti-air and successfully landing it a lot more often now.
Blanka is my one and only concern. But that’s not even a Vega specific problem for me, I just hate Blanka period, regardless of who I’m using.

As someone who has spent more time playing 4 then myself, your post tells me that with some practice and learning the match ups everything will be fine.
I don’t frequent CTF often Tweleve, but I’m certain we may have some friends in common.
No doubt, there’s a good chance I’ve probably even seen you anyway.
Don’t worry about Vega’s match ups, I don’t know whether it’s due to the fact that I’ve been using 12 competitively in 3S for two years, but Vega, regardless of tier position, is a lot better off than people are giving him credit for.
im the vega resident of ctf GM. my only hard matches ups are boxer and abel, everyone else seems alright for me, im the tall kid with glasses so hit me up if anybody wants to talk some vega strats at ctf or whatever.

I wanna ask Vega players about Vega vs Akuma.
Is the matchup in Claws favour? Maybe I’m doing all the wrong stuff, but the Vega players I’ve played so far had stomped my ass for free.
I’m not top tier with Akuma, but I’m pretty decent, I mean, good enough to not get stomped by garbage.
But man, I hate this match.
Fireballs are pretty much useless, and his zoning and speed seems to be better than what Akuma can offer.
I only can punish his wall jump atack with a focus if he doesn’t cross me up, but if he goes to the other side, free sweep (and I belive the throw version also beats it).
I’m really frustrated, he’s suposed to be low tier, but it’s one of the characters giving me more issues.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Low tier doesn’t mean easy to beat, Vega is still one of those characters that people would prefer not to fight against, regardless of how he’s considered to be a shit character.
And uh, I’d say that Akuma typically shouldn’t have problems against Vega once he gets the momentum going, because there is a lot of shit he can try on Vega and even if it fails, get away for free.
One of my friends, who uses Cammy, just told me he was able to AIR grab Blanka out of b,f P ball. I haven’t tried this out yet (technically, I should be sleeping right now), but he said that when he sees it coming, he just jumps and grabs.
Seeing as Vega has an air grab as well, I see no reason why he wouldn’t be able to do it either.
I will test this out tomorrow and tell you guys how it goes. If it DOES work, then it can be pretty big for vs. Blanka matchup. Not MIND BLASTING, but it could make things more bearable.

Okay, you can’t jump and grab it on reaction because you can’t grab immediately after jumping. sigh
HOWEVER, if you jump early, and he just happens to do bfP ball, then you can grab it on reaction EASILY on the way down before it hits you.
If you’re at the edge of the screen and he does blanka ball, you can keep walking back (it won’t put you into block anim from that far), and after a couple steps, you can stuff the ball with sHK for free, plus it will put you in mid range, where you want to be.
If you time it right, jbackHP stuff it also, for free, though I’m not sure how safe it is if he has down charged too.
bfK ball is easy, you can dash under it or dash backwards and punish it easily, plus if you jump and grab early, you can grab them out of it, though the timing is a little tricky. I wouldn’t recommend it. All jumping MP’s stuff it if you’re at the right range, so you can stop it easily with that. Especially juMP, since he aims the claw upwards.
Not too sure about d,uK ball though, that one is giving me more trouble. All I can really tell is if it whiffs, you can jump and grab him before he lands. But then you could just wait for him to land and punish him for free anyway.
Tricky stuff, this Blanka guy. Hope this helps a bit. I’ll keep you guys informed of anything interesting I discover.
(BTW, I’m new to Vega board, and the character in general. Don’t mind me if I say something stupid, I’ve never used the character before SF4)
A turtle Blanka is the most irritating match I have ever played, I cant seem to punish after his rolling attack, I tried dashing forward and then using st.MK but I ate another Roll attack instead. Turtling against Blanka doesn’t work like in ST, actually it is the opposite, if you turtle Blanka will start his cross-up game and fuck you up, poking would be your best option but then he starts rolling all over the place.
So is there a way to punish his Rolls? specially his Horizontal Roll, that would make this match TONS easier.

Ive had ex scarlet and ex sky high claw trade with his horizontal roll. Its annoying as hell.
IMO turtle Blanka is his hardest match up easy.

IIRC, Scarlet Terror trades more often than not, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Read my post (right before the your post) to see some possibilities. I don’t think there are ways to PUNISH it, but you can definitely stuff it. Maybe you can try doing EX walldive torwards him after you block the roll. Seems viable, but you’d need meter.
I like to bait using empty claw dives, with the occasional crossup to mix things up. If he rolls when you start diving, just fly to the other side of the screen, and start the loop all over. If he rolls everytime, then you bait a roll by jumping instead, stuff it, and you’ve got yourself a hit. Simple application won’t work here, you really have to play with his mind, something I learned to do from 3s. =)

It looks like it will connect if you catch it really early, like you start the kick before the roll, so I don’t think it’s something you can do on reaction, but you just kinda throw it out there and hope it lands. Even if it’s blocked, it’s still a safe kick, and you have frame advantage usually.
But if you do it from farther away (say full screen roll), it WILL trade, as far as my testing could tell. So it looks like a safe bet from mid range, which is where you want to be, but from farther away, just do what I mentioned in my 2 posts.
well i went into training mode just now and made the training dummy record blanka’s horizontal ball attack.
st.hk and ex scarlett terror stop it withou trades if hit at the times.
and the whore ball looks like its unpunishable from block… since i cat get him quick enough to punish. you could always jump back and fierce if u anticipate the ball but if the blanka player catches on he could just do vert ball and fukk u up.
now for the vert ball. only thing i found that can actually hit him out of vert ball is j.mk most of the time it will trade but im sure u can pull off a clean hit.
and the airgrab only works if u were already falling back to the ground.
im gonna experiment some more…

From what I did, sHK doesn’t ALWAYS stuff it, it trades sometimes. I’m guessing it’s based on the timing, but I don’t think it’s worth it because the roll can go at different speeds, and your timing would have to change accordingly.
