Woah… That stinks on ice. That has to be fixed if anything at all.
not quite the right answer. the RIGHT answer is you have to learn when to do your ultra when he DOESN’T have meter, or capitalize on the fact your opponent may or may not know this info.
every character has quirks like this, that’s where the concept of a matchup comes from. Bison may have something that kills vega’s ultra, and so it’s harder to use that move against him. Playing against a different character might have different circumstances. The Ultra works but THIS character can beat your wall dive easy, so you’re limited on that end.
to be really good, you have to sort of know every character, and what they can do. and then you have to learn what you have that can beat what they have, and what you have that loses to what they have.
Sorry about that!
Tiers schmeres.
Think about how good it will feel when after a few months of practice were beating most with the “worst” character.
Someone said a few posts up about Claw players having to work harder. We actually have to put some time in to become better players with Claw in sf4…so what? Maybe we had it good in ST for too long?
Doesn’t seem like a good option to backdash when in Sagat’s face (either through df.rh mixups or whatnot) because tiger uppercut, tiger shot, and tiger knee will all hit you on recovery of the backdash, even if those specials are input at the start of your invincibility. :wasted:
I swear, some of you guys just don’t get it. :shake:
Quick, no one enter the Bison thread or speak to any Bison player(s)
Don’t get what bebop? Vega isn’t the worst character? Forgive me, I’ve yet to play this masterpiece. Please shed some light, tell me more of what you think of Vega’s match ups.
Just got done watching some vs Gief vids and yeah, this must be one down-hill match.
Mainly keep-away with cr. MP/MK but he can punish it and get closer with Green Glove. Then his lariat pratically beats out everything. Claw Rolls are only good if you want to get hit for free, rather it’s blocked or hit. Any suggestions?
justin wong makes it seem like vega is a good character, how he owns up everyone with him at the arcade, makes me wonder, ive never seen a vega as good as his, from what i seen claw can win, you just gotta be really fucking good like justin
Really? I should really check out some of his matches.
where are the j.wong vega vids?
SFIV + Vega + Justin Wong…in the same sentence!?
Now that I would love to see…for the good of mankind (and Vega fans).
Btw you guys didn’t get any videos from the California Regionals bebop was talking about? I wanna see his new tricks that he mentioned.
he has no videos up, but i play at the same arcade justin does and seen him get a hella big streak with vega and since im a vega player also i asked him for tips and stuff and played him vega vega mirror, hes rather amazing,
against boxer plays he would just standing round house, it was stuffing out dash punches all the time, he would only do wall dives in combos, and for anti air he would just jump up and air throw, he knew everytime someone was gonna jump to air throw them,
he would also mainly do cr jab jab medium punch low punch ball roll, your opponent can;t really do anything about it, and it would make your opponents start jumping, but he did alot of standing RK and focus attacks
also df Hk into flip kick for combo
good shit
props on the info… try to get some vids if u can!
It’s true. Justin makes vega look high tier. He never walldives unless he combos it. Uses the focus attack a LOT. Abuses with standing RH. Any jump in he does air throw. cr. jab x2, cr. strong, lp.ballroll cancel into focus attack (lets the focus attack hit) then dashes in does mixup (throw, the same combo again, walk back >> kara throw). It’s crazy. He makes balrog (many say vega’s worst matchup) look like a scrub. Beats every rush punch clean with standing rh.
You probably won’t see vids of his vega anytime soon because he rarely uses him and nobody records matches at CTF.
Bebop knows what hes talking about…there’s videos of him playing as Vega and analyzing his strengths and weaknesses
I think he meant that you don’t get that a lot of the reasons he feels Vega is the worst are completely unnecessary things, such as the claw and the mask falling off a lot more easily now (I swear, just watching some videos while reading this thread, I’ve never seen the mask fall off so much ever  ) AND decreasing his already lower than average damage output and damage intake (respectively).
I mean, it’s one thing to be bottom of the barrel simply because someone has to like say, I dunno, Bridget in Guilty Gear: Accent Core. It’s another to be thing for that weakness to artificially induced by having the character being penalized for something as necessary as blocking an attack.
I mean, it’s not like you can or even should backflip through everything. From what little I’ve seen, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’re going to be losing you at least your claw once every round and possibly your mask as well if you take enough hits (that don’t kill you outright).
That just seems a tad…excessive, even for fighting games’ tendency to “over-nerf” certain characters.
With that said, I too haven’t played SFIV yet, so I’m just going on what I’ve seen in videos, which isn’t much. (Although I’m hoping to change that tomorrow since I now know that there is one in SF, which is relatively close by. I’ll probably try and play as Vega tomorrow, but we’ll see how that goes.)
I should also say that I agree with UltraDavid in that thus far, if Vega is the worst character, he’s easily one of the “better” worst characters in a video game by far. It’s not like he’s CvS2 King (Kyosuke can actually be useful without having to abuse roll cancel) or 3S Sean or anything as horrible as that. The game is also still young, so there’s still time for that change, though I would hope for the “better”.
(I have to wonder, though, what would happen if they DO retool the console versions. I mean, would we as a whole switch over to that even if some of the changes weren’t superior for whatever reason? And this is assuming they’re smart enough to avoid console specific-crap…)
P.S. All this talk about Guile being horrible makes me want to look at the Guile sub-forum now…
P.P.S. Yeah, I know what I’m quoting is from more than a week ago.
Last night I fought a Balrog who always beat the shit out of me, but after taking Jwong’s advice about abusing st.rh, I slaughtered that ass.
ABUUUSE IT.
What kind of use did you give it? Yes I haven’t touched the game yet.
Any sign of dash punches, or just approaching him when he’s not charging and wail on him.
