Yea, Vega takes a lot of patience. The main idea (strategy) behind playing him is generally to make the player come to you. Even though he has rush options, they lack severely in comparison to other rush-type characters. So you basically want to spend the majority of your time frustrating your opponent with pokes, then running off to make him chase you, just so he can run into another poke. That’s just how Vega is; hit and run.
P.S. If you want a rush-type character, I’d suggest switching. It all really depends on what better fits your style of play. If you’re better at controlling the match through a series of pokes, Vega would be fun playing. But if you have more fun rushing someone into the ground, I’d suggest Fuerte, Bison, Ken, efc.
Claw’s air throw range is 1.2 and Chun’s air throw range is 1.1. Fuerte’s is 1.15. The biggest air throw range is Guile’s, at 1.25. Not 100% sure on what those numbers actually mean, but my guess is that they’re character widths.
It’s possibly the number of pixels the throw hit boxes will be in effect up to. I don’t exactly know what 1 whole number means, possibly 100 pixels, but it’s probably got to do with something like that.
I’m not sure if we have an overpopulation, I can only think of 3 players who actually main Vega and show to AI consistently:
Me
Tatsu
Tonycrust
Ryan (Dragonite) is also a good Vega player, but I’m not sure if he’s actually looking to main Vega. Also, he shows up to AI less than the aforementioned Vega players.
In regards to the videos, trust me, they’re coming. At this point, it’s been extremely hard to get a Vega into top 4 at any particular SoCal event. There are just so many good players, who play higher tier characters. But rest assured, if I don’t break that curse soon, Tatsu or Arlieth are definitely going to.
lol in my defense, i have no idea how that matchup works (Rufus v Vega) since that was my first Vega match ever, and that was also my first time seeing Vega super and ultra, so i had no idea what properties were.
but yea. i missed combo into ultra third round. Tatsu played pretty solid that entire day.
In my opinion, what you need to know as a Vega players about the Sim matchup:
–Don’t do regular walldives or punch dives when Sim is on the ground, he can slide under and punish them with standing fierce for free
–Your jumping toward fierce and roundhouse beat all of Sim’s antiairs at various timings; early, they beat standing roundhouse, regular, they beat back+roundhouse and back+strong, and late, they beat slides
–Sim can jump on reaction to your jump with strong or back+strong to knock you back down
–Try to get close or within poking range, where your jumps are harder for him to deal with
–Claw wins this matchup like 6-4
Jumping fierce is sometimes your only option for a safe get-away or way in. If you lose that claw, you better pull out some gimmicks to get it back.
*I combo’d cr. forward INTO cr. forward!!! I was mashing it just for kicks (pun intended) and it somehow combo’d. New Vega shennanigans on the way! :woot:
Went over reading the first page. Chun vs Vega is slightly in chun’s favor imo. Cr.strong will get hit by FA very easily and very often by a good player. Actually people don’t FA enough against Vega.
That was an awesome Vega vid. Was that Jal laughing at himself after getting hit by the ultra? Hilarious.
I think I read somewhere around here that a counter hit adds 3 frames of hitstun, so if that’s true, according to the frame data the combo would be possible after a CH cr.MK (+5 normally, +8 on CH, just enough to get another perfectly timed cr.MK).
Yea, definitely a counter hit. Thanks TM for the info. :lovin:
Also, I finally figured out the use of the claw throw:
The claw throw is part of why Vega is such a complex, difficult to handle, character. There’s a set amount of damage (direct or chip) that Vega can take before he loses his claw. If you claw throw, you automatically reset the damage counter on the claw. The same goes for his mask (although I wouldn’t recommend ever using the EX mask throw). So, if you’re a comfortable distance away from your opponent, try to find a safe time to throw your claw off and reattach it. The claw is VERY important in certain situations.
