I eat a lot of tick throws, especially from shotards, and I’m not sure how to handle it - it always beats out c.jab even though attack is supposed to beat throw.
Usually they are Ryu and just spam safe jump-in (or deep jump-in) - they connect with the j.rh then do a bunch of c.jabs or c.shorts which all beat my c.jabs -or- they just throw.
I’ve seen videos of good players somehow able to psychic an incoming throw with a tech and I’m at a loss - I guess it’s just a skill barrier.
I’d say I can land his Izuna drop 95% of the time, any other time is me just messing up the inputs like any other move. Follow this (horrible) description and you too should be landing Izuna drop at will.
Don’t use the default wall-dive path (it puts you right on top of them). Suppose you are on player 1 side, as you jump off of the wall, hold back for a brief moment and then hold forward, you should now be approaching the opponent from the side (rather than from above and right on top). Make sure you hold forward + punch as you bump into him and you will izuna drop him. The idea is, Vega is positioned in between 4 and 7 WHILE you are holding forward, it’ll never miss. If you just hold forward off of the regular wall-dive you’ll be too far and it crosses up. If you don’t hold forward until the last second you are around the 8 position, and will mostly slash.
I think the reason we land it so easily when he jumps is because we’re now in front of him, rather than on top of him when he is on the ground blocking. So, alter the flight path so you approach the opponent from the side, rather than from above and you should be nailing Izuna drop.
I know my description sucks, but give it a go in training mode, I’m confident that in no time you will be landing it consistently. If not, send me an invite, I’ll show you a few times to give you an idea of what to do (though I doubt this will be necessary)
EDIT: It’s just as Tweleve said, think of it as a quick wiggle of the stick to slow Vega down in the air and now when you hold forward you’ll end up on the side of the opponent rather than on top, perfect spot to ensure Izuna lands.
That’s awesome dude - if Izuna can actually connect reliably that will really improve my Vega’s capabilities quite a bit.
I’ve hit the BP level where my opponents are consistently able to block the crossup (or non-crossup) of the walldive-slash and if I could land an Izuna drop SF2 style that woul help so much.
It works. Takes a little bit of getting used to (you still need tighter timing on the throw than other SFs required), but yeah. This method definitely works.
I’m to go on record and say your best AA option against Shotos who know the match up is Jump straight up RH. Air throw gets stuffed by a decent shoto too often.
I think it’s worth noting that you can COMPLETELY stuff all Guile flash kicks with an early jfHP. Watch as they give that down charge completely after you kill their kick multiple times.
Does this actually work? My stick sucks too much to pull this off very well because there’s so little room for just a ‘strait up’ rather than ‘straight back’ or ‘straight forward’.
yeah, I agree. I’m still in the dark on fighting a lot of console chars, since so far they haven’t had much light shed on them.
My advice for fighting Gen is since his jumps are long and short, crouching fierce is actually useful for once. since it’s not a high strike like most uppercuts are, it matches the path Gen jumps in with really well. if he’s sending you to cross up hell, wel thats another story. I hardly ever fight Gen, Fei Long, Rose, and Dan, though I do fight occasional Sakuras, Cammys, and Goukens, but I don’t really know enough about the matchups to shed any light.
it’d be helpful if we could all gather our findings and make a list of the console chars’ matchups with Claw.
Hmm…anybody have any words of wisdom regarding Gouken? I’m finding the match up weird because i go into like he’s Ryu or Ken and he’s completely different. I find myself saying “oh yea…” when he does something like that AA fireball or that two-hit thing that he does when he slides forward really fast
I’ve only played a few Goukens, but he is clearly structured as a defensive player and most will play him like this. his anti-air sucks, alot of his moves have significant recovery times if you can get a block. dont get intimidated by his ex fireball or normal. try and get some cross-ups on him, most struggle to defend it with gouken…
im sure the vega-pro’s might have much more to add tho
Ok versus Dictator. What do i do when he basically just gets me down and then proceeds to crossup -> link combo and then either lk scissor or throw > repeat. Seriously i just lost to a real crappy dictator that basically only did that to win and i was stumped since i had no idea how to beat that shit.
