Old Vega Matchup Thread

I think a good Ryu will destroy Vega due to crossup/jumpin/corner issues.

Yes But Good Ryu’s Are few and far in-between.

Ok i got a new roadblock now. Honda! Met a Honda today that i only managed to win 2 out of 5 or something like that. (The losses were big). I just have no idea how to deal with sumo splash spam and throw mixups. Anyone got any antihonda tips?

I think i just broke my table haha. Soooo f*in frustrating, lost like 10 games in a row to Honda and Gief. I stick to my conviction that lariat is the most friggin OP move in the game. The only thing that consistently beats it is cr.HK and then i have to do it late, so doesn’t work up close. st.HK i have no idea why everyone praises so much, it trades with lots of giefs stuff and it’s not a good trade either.

Lost 800BP just now playing Gief and Honda (and getting more and more frustrated so playing worse and worse, never a good thing).

That is a sign to unplug for a little while my friend.

I should heed my own advice and save my wife a little grief:wink:

Hk also does.

Spam it.

You need more practice. st. hk is one of your most prized possessions in this match, but you have to understand its spacing and timing in order to use it properly. Go into training mode, record Zangief doing a number of specials and normals, then practice which pokes or specials are good against whatever options he has. I can tell you this much, vertical jump fierce will stuff almost every jumping option Gief can throw at you (aside from an early jumping jab, which is something you wont see often, if at all).

This advice really goes for all players out there. If you’re having problems with a particular character, go into training mode and practice against that specifc character over and over. In this game, especially with Vega, it’s important to know every single option you have, and when is the most opportune time to employ said options.

Focus attack sumo splash on its way down, or if you can anticipate it, you can air throw him out of it too.

When you fight against gief make sure you have a certain distance and just poke with c.mp until they jump then you can air throw or j.hp really fast. The c.mp isnt necessarily suppose to hit, its just to maintain a certain distance to setup for other things. Most giefs spam random lariats so just bait it and do ex wall dive.
After you knock him down jump in with hp and jump back with hp it usually hits alot of noob gief players. After you do that for a while they’ll learn to start blocking high but it also makes them stop doing random lariats or 360 moves so you can mix it up with c.mk -> scarlet terror after the initial j.hp

Just remember with gief, its a hit and run game. Play smart. Half of the games i play that are against GOOD giefs usually end with the time running out. With me winning of course.

^^Versus Honda sumo splash i normally do a Kx3(shortest one)then JB.Friece.

Tho really i haven’t played too many honda’s.

I played a game against a Gief where I hit that motherfucker 3 times with a 2-hitter s.hk and a couple of jump-in stuffs and he was only down 25% - I was so fucking pissed off - what the fuck is that shit?

I understand they wanted to make Gief good in this game but the health differential is dumb - Sagat has 1100 health too and it just makes you wonder what the hell the designers were thinking.

I guess you stop playing or find another main so you can play easier. There’s no use complianing about the game it won’t make you better.

So let’s start slow.

1.Why are you so close to him?
2.What is he hitting you with.
3.What do you normally do when you have the life lead.
4.What do you normally do when he has the life lead.
5.How well can you combo.

Jinofcoolnes please post your PSN Gamertag so I can face you (if you have one).

I’m just ranting. I won the match, but he managed to get a few hits in and take me down about 50%.

You guys need help with Honda?

Jump back fierce stuffs headbutts, even EX!

AND

EX walldive punishes blocked headbutts.

You’re welcome. :lovin:

don’t have a PS3/X360 yet.

Ehh i should make a izuna drop Guide then.

Edit:Sorry for the double post.

I wouldn’t mind some pointers. I’m finding it’s most reliable if they extend their hitbox by trying to punch at you or whatever, but I find it hard to hit consistently on a blocking opponent.

Anyone who would just so happen to see me play at ctf might notice everytime I go for an Izuna drop, I do a very specific jiggle on the joystick to achieve a certain spot that helps me land it everytime.

:lovin:

I’d make a video of it if I had a video camera

I would love to see a video of people who consistently land this - I only land Izuna drop when they jump try to counter and I stuff them.

When they’re on the ground, even in training mode, the timing is really hard.

I will bring my Camera With me today to CTF see if i can get some video’s and stuff.
