Good games to all who played tonight.
Bullet points of the night:
-Fuck TvC. I don’t get Versus games, and I never will, unless they are CvS2 style, or in other words, “proper” Street Fighter type Versus games.
-Seth is gay, but beatable. He is just really fucking good at everything except having heath.
-Balrog thinks electricity is yummy.
Oh yea, I was just looking at the first post on here, and I was thinking, with the new people showing up nowadays, maybe it’s time to update that post a little bit. Just a thought.
I’ll be the first one to admit my combo execution is weak-sauce. If it makes you feel better, I don’t come to the gatherings with a big head about my game. I know I can’t pull off the combos. I can Kara throw, do his BNB combo (crouching short, crouching jab, jab, crouching mk, ex tatsu), but there is plenty for me to learn.
I guess I’d say that, while your criticism is sound, it seems harsh? I know I was throwing random ultras at 3am a couple of months ago like a retard, but I don’t think I was throwing too many of those at the ranbat. And, with the exception of Humbag, I feel like I gave each person I played at least a run for their money. Fifth isn’t too bad. So while I can accept a “You still have a lot to learn, grasshopper”, it seems like I’m being singled out when I am simply inexperienced in comparison and I’m not the only one there throwing out n00b stuff.
deep breath Having said all that, thanks for the advice. I have been working on my c.short, c. jab, c. jab, SRK (since I usually rely on the throw too much instead of reliable damage), and cancelling out of SRK as Parabellum suggested.
The c.short > c.jab > c.fierce XX RH tatsu combo is hard to link. Also, it seems scary because, unlike Ryu, it does not knock the opponent down and puts you in a guessing game. I’ll work on it though.
Thanks to whoever posted that video. That’s awesome. I also like watching IFC Yipes because he plays an aggressive Ken.
this is a video of him vs. Sanford Kelly.
<–New avi, you guys know you’d like to be behind that lol.
Dude don’t feel bad you were trying to play the hardest character in the game with no practice against someone who knows the game and his characters really well. I’m all for playing who you like but I highly suggest you learn the basics before trying to learn the complex characters. Kinda how you told me its bad to start off with Sagat since he’s a hard character where as learning Ryu to just learn the game and then after learning the basics to move up to harder characters.
I feel you, Christian, but I’d really need the game, a stick modded to my liking (all sanwa, octo gated) and a wii of my own (not my roomates haha) to really be able to practice and learn the game. And until I’m BALLLLLIINNN!!! I wont be able to do that. Anyways, I work til 6 today, so if you do decide to host again tonight, just send me a text, James.
CHYEA!
Sometimes I come across a bit harsh. Like I said, it’s just that we want everyone to play to their fullest potential. If we see something in someone we try to bring it out as much as possible. That’s why I posted that. And another thing, David: if it seemed like I was singling you out, well…that’s because I was. lol Sometimes it’s easier to give advice if you just come right out with it. I don’t feel like I could’ve been any nicer in saying what I felt I needed to say, and I’d be the first person to apologize if I honestly thought that I was out of line. However, we’ve ALL been singled out at one point or another on this thread. We’re all friends, and we talk like friends. Constructive criticism is just that: constructive criticism. Nothing more…nothing less.
PROTIP: Get Dolphin and DL TvC so you can practice on your PC if it’s good enough to handle it. It has some slowdown at times due to all the shit going on, but you can turn off backgrounds and whatnot. You don’t need it to be pretty to practice combos and get the basics of your characters down. It’s what I did until I stole my brother’s wii and nabbed TvC for real.
Also, it allows you to use your TE/SE/whatever and then just bum a TvC stick when it’s time to play at gatherings. If you want a TvC stick you can pick one up pretty damn cheap these days, especially with all the discounts Markman posts up… so keep an eye out!
Alright, cool. It’s not so bad taking criticism if everyone is a part of the team.
I’ll work on my combo execution. I know what the combos ARE, I just can’t perform them. And, as you’ve noticed, I’ve picked up some bad habits along the way to having a shortcut. Still, I gotta work on it so I can be worthy of Ken’s Ultra II and the daunting task of learning Makoto.
David you are learning Makoto?
Man that is good news I’ve really been hoping that many of us would learn the new characters so that we can learn those matchups. I really don’t want to go to MWC and get bodied for free because I wasn’t used to a specific match.
I’m planning on spending some time learning Ibuki, she is very challenging but I think I may be up to it (hopefully ).
**ABOUT this weekend: ** Sorry guys, I know this is disappointing but I really have to back out of the ranbat. I know that this impacts you all, and it may even mean you can’t go. I do sincerely apologize for that…but I need to spend this weekend trying to recover my freaking sanity after everything that has gone on in the last few weeks/months. For those of you who don’t know, my wife and I seperated and Mike moved in with me. Both of those things are actually good things, but all this change has left my brain a bit scattered, and I need some time this weekend to get my shit together.
If I can get Ken down, I’d like to try Makoto. She seems like a rush-down character and she looks interesting. I don’t think she’ll be that strong, due to her lack of options against fireball characters and her upward punch being so limited, but unless she’s complete trash, I’d like to pick her up.
I think that Ibuki is going to be a character that gets dismissed at first, but then someone will come along and show how powerful she really is. She looks difficult to learn, but seems like she could be really good.
Sorry that stuff is pretty rough for you right now. I hope taking the extra time does you some good.
Are people playing this Friday?
really sorry to hear that chris =(
Makoto will most likely be solid to good depending on how the mix-ups/ set ups for her grab and choke play out. I plan on playing her too so we could compare notes on problems we’re running into.
The general impression on Ibuki is that she’s gonna be really good. She’s got an akuma like vortex already figured out. She seems like she’s gonna play out like an akuma viper hybrid, plenty tech but very worthwhile.
Games are on this Friday at my place as usual.
Also in case anyone’s been sleeping Honda’s new ultra is REALLY good. FADC outta hands into Ultra 2 that has to be escaped by prejump. If your shit isn’t out before the flash it’s your ass. Dozens of tick set-ups being discussed right now. Finally I can abandon Ultra 1 and not be tempted to use it.
Heads up for super, this just in from Alouine:
That has some interesting potential…and with his stcl.short still being cancel-able at super close range…me thinks sagat will still definitely be top 5.
AS EX TU does 250 dmg and you can easily combo into it…
i dont really think ryu akuma or sagat will move out of the top 5…
I agree, the real question is WHO will join them?
I’m guessing Dudley for sure…and maybe Hakan, depending on how he turns out.
If Juri is as half broken as she looks, its possible she may earn a spot up there too I guess.
Chun isn’t really moving anywhere. She is getting better in super, but not to a degree that she will make it out of mid/high-mid.
juri looks boring as hell to play from my point of view. hakan… i personally dont think he will be top. thawk maybe though his footsies and pokes look pro as hell. chun’s gonna go up a bit since she can combo in easy 200 damage and everyone else’s damage is going down soooo her low hp won’t appear as bad? hopefully…
my top 5:
akuma, sagat, ryu, dudley, viper
yeah u read that right. viper.
Viper getting buffed?
I thought her and Sim were basically the same.
…or do you mean that DP nerf + faster game = Viper moves up.
her ultra 2 is easier to land than ultra 1 and her crouching strong is getting more priority so she’s gonna move up a tad and the damage shit is going down. at the same time though her frame advantage is going down on her burning kicks and thunder knuckles… dp’s don’t affect her too much even now since she can stuff every srk in the game with a properly spaced jump.then again her flame kicks and thunder knuckles are losing their frame advantage so thats kinda lame but she’s getting in my top 5 cause she’s my favorite <_<
