Hey, Dave. Next time you come by, I (we) expect to see some REAL Ken play: legit combos, good tick set-ups, kara throws, and solid footsies. As much fun as they might be, random, wake-up supers/ultras and what-not are not gonna fly at our ranbats anymore. We play to breed good, tourney-caliber players, and you can take your pick of any of us that regularly attend game night: we ALL know our characters’ inside and out. Please don’t take offense to this, as none was intended. It’s just that loosing to online tactics while playing offline is not only irritating, but it also teaches nothing to anyone including you. I mean, I don’t even play Ken, and as you saw when you walked in Friday I was consistently landing his tricky links and combos. If you ever plan on playing at a competitive level, 25 step-kicks in a row followed by a random fierce DP is something you’re gonna have to let go. I feel that I’m sort of speaking on behalf of everyone, since we’re a team. When you really think about it…we are. We play to make each other better. We play to teach each other and learn from one another. You are MORE than welcome at our get-togethers, and you know that. However, we would just appreciate it if you’d put in the work that we’ve all been putting in for the past year or so. Feel free to express your thoughts on the matter; that’s why we have this fantastic thread for public discussion. :tup:
BTW: Brian’s going to be putting in a Lizard Lick order soon. If anyone needs anything, get a hold of him ASAP, or at least have your order ready for him by Friday.

Jesus dude, split in on a hotel room. A hour each way is nuts to save 40 bucks (based on splitting a room with 3 people for two nights).

Based on watching you play, here are a few things that I think would really up your game:

Learn how to FADC out of a SRK so its safe. If you have to SRK when you aren’t 100% sure it will hit, it IS worth spending two bars to insure that you won’t get punished for guessing wrong.

You need to master some basic combos. Start with Ken’s basic three hit: J.{any heavy attack} > c.forward/c.short > Special …and then you can build off of that. You can combine that with #1 above to create new combos such as: j.rh > c.forward XX hadoken > FADC > c.jab > c.jab > c.fierce XX tatsu

Learn Ken’s best quick meterless punish: st.rh XX rh tatsu

Finally, you need to master THE ken combo***: c.short > c.jab > c.fierce XX RH tatsu …the c.jab > c.fierce link is a bit tricky but once you get it, your damage with Ken will go WAY up and you won’t need to rely on SRK for damage. **This is character specific, please see below for more.
What Mike said is spot on, we are all about helping each other get better and we want to see you take Ken to the level that we know you can play him at!

*** this combo should be incorperated in all Ken games. Not only does is do better damage then other hit conforms, but it also raises the character from the crouching position so you can tatsu them up. But it only works on certain characters.

thats ken’s, you can see how long it takes for his moves to start up, how effective they are on hit or block or wiff, whether or not they’re super cancelable or chainable blah blah
you should go about learning that pretty much by heart and eventually learn the other character’s too so you know how to punish and set up situations and even make your own custom combos
like for “THE ken combo” chris posted above it that reads
c.short > c.jab > c.fierce XX RH tatsu
crouching short has a 3 frame start up, then when it hits you get +3 on hit and you can cancel that into a crouching jab which will give you +5 frames on hit, and then you input the crouching fierce which is 5 frames to start up (making this a 1 frame link)
if thats too hard you could change the crouching jab with a close standing jab which apparently gives you +7 on hit making that link a joke (+7 sounds way too good o.O)
also notice how each version of his shoryuken and ultra and super are so bad on wiff or block that you can punish them with any move in the game

I’m coming from St. Charles and I think I’m down for a room, if nothing else it’s because I don’t want to stay there ungodly late, then drive home just to drive back the next day… possibly repeating that another night.
Sounds like a few of the people in my area are driving, but most of them live like 40 minutes closer than I do
