I was thinking about picking up my PS3 pad again for this game and left my TE stick aside.
I immediately noticed that they changed around the basic attacks like uppercut and sweep. As this is practically hardcoded in my brain from the old MK days I swapped around the controls so: O = sweep (BK) and Square = uppercut (FP)
However when checking some combo’s for Kung Lao I saw that his combo’s involved pressing X and O at the same time. This is practically impossible to do so I immediately dropped this char. I’m wondering if there are other characters who use simultaneous button presses? If they are, I guess I should leave the control presets to default? Other people with this problem or solution?
Also I really dont get why they changed all the moves from the old MK games.
This was a reason why I picked up this game, so I didnt have to study all the moves all over again… guess not
you know i have a custom joystick that has the 3 buttons accross american style, then 2 buttons on top of eachother that is offset a little bit and is left of the 6 buttons. it is kind of like a mix between american and japanese sticks. it is basically the TE layout, however the top/bottom buttons aren’t offset at all. they are just right on top of eachother, and my “main 6” buttons are the outter 3 columns.
anyways … when i first got MK, i tried to map it similar to the original mk button mapping, so that uppercut would be top left button, and sweep would be bottom right, and block in the middle. it ended up being like this…
BP BL FK
FP ST BK
it really made for an awkward setting when trying to do combos and reading the moves list … just confusing as hell, so i went back to
FP BL FK
BP ST BK
this was a little easier, however when doing some combos that do BP + FP, i was having issues pressing those because they were on top of eachother. I also was having issues doing throws because I had throw mapped to the bottom left offset button, which i just wasnt used to use to throwing, and was used pressing the buttons from SF4 to throw, but in this it was FP + FK, so it was top 2 buttons.
so i ended up trying to go back to default, so now my buttons are…
FP BP -
FK BK -
where - is something i don’t even use, and I have block as the bottom left of the offset button, so I can press it with my thumb. I’ve been using it that way for 2 nights playing and starting to get used to it. it is making combos easier, as well as throwing because it now feels the same exact as SF4.
so tha thsa been my struggle with button mapping in MK heh. hope that even makes sense.
