Has Ken any frame trap combos? Hard for me to react to mp into srk

My personal favorites:
(CH) cl.MK > U2/sweep
(CH) cr.MP > cr.MK
(CH) far MP > sweep
(CH) step kick > cr.MK

Wait if ur hk button is throw that mean your playing without a sweep?u need hk for footsies and max damage punishes.but to each his own

I still have the EX HK button I can still sweep with it and everything but it would be too hard cause I use the HK button a lot already for jumping and standing HK, I can set the throw button to Light Kick cuz you can do light kicks with the throw button.

You can’t do standing lk with a throw macro.

So ive been trying to combo:

cl.mk > u2/sweep
cr.mp > cr.mk
far.mp > sweep
step kick > cr.mk

I only tried for a few minutes thou with plinking them but didnt combo once.
Does it have to be a counter-hit to combo?

And what is cl in cl.mk?

Yeah, it has to be counter-hit. The good way of fishing them is through jabs since they have good frame adv on block.
cl means close.

Yes it has to be a counter hit but in ae it works without it.I’m assuming you don’t know how to read frames but understanding frames will help u a lot with ken.at least lern his then u can avoid tryna combo stuff that doesn’t work.also for the guy with the throw macro are you on a pad or stick?if pad I understand if stick you should just practice n the training room and learn it without the macro.I’m sure having to kara throw like that is hindering your gameplay.but if you can execute everything else with it then stick to what’s comfy for you.

Hey guys Mr. Wiz is looking for more mods and I was wondering what you guys thought about one of us becoming a mod for this particular forum. Just to keep it clean and organized and weed out bad threads etc etc. I’d nominate Joon/G77/Myself/ImagineVC or any other regular that would be up to the task.

Yeah! A ken army mod sounds like a great idea. Great nominees, I think all and any of them will do a great job, especially Joon :love:. I’d also nominate Lilsicx for his endless knowledge, but am not sure if he will stick around in SRK for a good long time.

What’s bothering me about the ken forum are the stickies. The “Dear Doctor!” Ken Match Ups And Insight…Ask A Question! Get An Answer! title should change to “Dear Doctor!” Ken Insight…Ask A Question! Get An Answer!. And make it a thread for all questions and answers. Questions concerning Kara throw inputs, OS’s and whatever else, all should be asked and answers there.

And we should also make a new, update-able matchup thread. I think Joutai is working on it, so we don’t have to rush it.

I also get pretty salty when I see new, unnecessary threads. All Questions should be asked in the Dear Doctor thread. Everyone who wants to post a video must post it in the video thread. Any tactic for for discussion should be posted in the General discussion thread. Any Char-specific strategy should be posted in the new matchup thread thats coming soon, ( for now, let’s all use Dear Doctor! thread as our matchup thread. ).

I honestly would put G77 and Joon forward as the most qualified members for the mod job. Just my opinion.

Yup, we have way too many redundant and overlapping stickies here in the Ken forums. A nice good overhaul/clean-up would do wonders.

As for the mod position, i 2nd and agree with all of the nominations thus far, so long as the guys nominated don’t mind taking on the added task and responsibility. Shall we make a new thread to take this discussion further and gather community input?

I have another question to put to you all.

I’ve been messing around with the following:

fierce DP combo FADC (2nd hit), pause, lk tatsu (crosses over them while they wake-up), meaty attack of choice (cr.lk or cr.mp).

mixed in with…

fierce DP combo FADC (2nd hit), immediate lk tatsu (doesn’t cross over them while they wake-up), meaty attack of choice (cr.lk or cr.mp).

You can mess around with the lk tatsu to make it REALLY ambiguous. The wake-up animation of your opponent gets all obstructed by your spinning legs and if you add in a slight walk back before you do the tatsu, you can make the timings on both the cross-over and non-cross over versions to be identical.

I’m also finding it really useful in removing the horizontal charge against certain characters.

I know it costs 2 stocks and this is it’s main failing in my opinion, but I’m kinda in half a mind to use it every time against the likes of Bison because it completely shuts down his options.

This works after a throw too:

(Throw, cross-over lk tatsu) or (fierce DP FADC cross-over lk tatsu), cr.lk, OS step kick, continue as necessary.

I’m doing the OS’ed step kick with f+lk+mk with chain timing on the inputs. You could use f+lp+mk, but the st.lp sometimes whiffs on crouchers.

If he blocks the first cr.lk, you get a chained standing light kick.
If he teleports, you get a step kick. Depending on which teleport he uses, he either gets hit by the step kick, or you follow him with the step kick and are within range to combo him during his recovery.
If he goes for the EX Headstomp, you dodge underneath it and you can punish him on his recovery.
If he goes for the EX Devil’s Reverse, it whiffs. Not sure if you can punsih him. I had trouble setting it up in training to be sure.

I’m also starting to edge back to U1 for this match-up, just to give Bison something to consider when he’s abusing his lk scissors on me in the corner. It also makes more sense when I’m using this tactic because he’s gonna stop teleporting real soon and then the likelihood of landing an OS’ed U2 starts to go down hill. I’m still undecided though really.

My goal is to get the new match-up thread done by February 13th. I’ve been slacking a bit because of school and I’m practicing for a tourney in a few weeks.

Somethingtells me I’m going to see some great Ken action there but I just can’t quite put my finger on it…

About U2, I think its the best ultra to pick in this matchup, for obvious reasons. Safejump OS U2 beats all his wake up options, except for devils reverse. But devils reverse beats every OS anyway. I think the reason you stated for using U1 applies on U2 also, or maybe I didn’t understand it right.

The crossover tatsu is indeed a great trick. And I think, against all characters, we shouldn’t stick to 1 setup. For example, mixup it up between safejumps and tatsu crossovers against bison.

That set up seems nice except for the first one which used two bars to fadc. Just for the fact that when we use our meter we could do crazy ass damage. So I like to keep it unless its for end game or something. And this setup really rreally helps with honda. And also u could punish a blocked pc wit u2, I’ve seen it done but have never had a chance to figure the ins and outs.
