(OLD) Ken General Discussion Thread (Combos, Techniques, etc.)

because you don’t spend four bars and you still get good damage with two bars to spare…SO just do cr.mk > fireball fadc> ultra 2 =D

Ehhhh… I rather crumble SRK FaDC Full ultra 1

do u no a easy was to to fireball afdc to ultra. i still have a hard time with it. after i dash forward i have a hard time putting in the QCFx2 for the ultra

you shouldnt have to put the ultra motion in twice the game should remember the first motion from the Fireball. So it should Look Like :qcf::lp: Fadc :qcf::3k:
“Keep it Classy” Hit training room and get the timing down.

iight thanks man

So I just learned Fierce punch, crouching light kick, standing light punch, crouching heavy punch, ex tatsu. Im wondering if the spacing is the same for all characters. It only hits if im close or on a cross up. Sometimes I can do it off a cross up medium or light but its tough.

Dunno if it’s different in super, but in vanilla this was a waste of 2 bars. Looks cool and all with you jumping over them to wait for them to fall and get the counterhit properties, but the srk doesn’t add damage. Probably worse in super with the nerfs to DPs. Just do raw ultra off crumple stun.

Also a question about the combo mentioned by the poster before me. Is the s.lp just to avoid the one frame link and make it a 2 frame? I just stay crouching for that combo.

St.Lp is +7 on hit
Cr.Lp is +5 on hit

One frame to three frame

Im not even sure how I learned the combo but my fingers have been doing it alot lately. I even crossed a cody up with it and it was sick looking. Its probably by far my favorite combo ever, and the stun is great. I dont understand how people use the two button ex thing I always use the 3 punch button for ex. Although I suck at doing crouching light kick crouching light punch ex shory.

Yes G77 I’ve read a post in some thread that a guy mentioned how good Kara lp.srk is So I went to try some setups for it, here is some:
against ryu: combo cr.lk > cr.lp > cr.lp > Kara lp.srk. Then safe jump (empty jump) into OS crouch tech > OS Sweep hidden in jab.
Reversal DP gets blocked.
Throw gets teched.
Back dash gets swept. :>
Then you can do the same after the sweep or just walk up in his face and late crouch tech > sweep OS.
Pretty much the same against akuma but OS with ex tatsu instead, this is also GREAT against honda, actually against honda my bnb is target combo> jab srk then safe jump with HP or HK and OS U1 or mp.srk to counter his headbutts.

You gotta go in deep for that. i personally wouldn’t say it’s it has to bea certain distance, i would say you jsut gotta either walk in deep enough or do a deep jump in with a jump in attack that doesn’t push you too far, j m.k should work i think. Also EX isn’t neccessary for the combo, so if you could use meter for something else i’d day spare it. when you do RH tatsu, you’re pushed far enough that what hits is only the foot so you’re fairly far away from the opponent when that ends.

If anyone didn’t get a chance to watch NSB 17, Momochi went with Ken again and performed EXTREMELY well. His play style was well-balanced between RTSD and careful Ryu-esque zoning. Which switched seamlessly for the situation in a match or the match-up itself. Makes me re-evalulate my playstyle all together. I’m all for having my own style but I want to win more so taking some tips from him wouldn’t hurt my game either.

Aww why can’t I just play a simple character like Gief and just walk foward the whole time?

I would use it since I’ve discovered as I’ve played that what Dr.Chaos does after a focus is SMART. Backdash. Simple as that. Always backdash when you do a focus that connects. Because: If they block your plus but it’s not really worth the risk since they will be blocking and crouch teching. If it hits and does not crumble your minus on frames so then it’s really not worth the dash in. If it hits and you get the crumble then you simply walk in (Dr.Chaos does his little trick with the fake kick and I’ve noticed that if you do the same your gonne be absolutley sure that your close enough for the whole srk scoop to connect) srk scoop them up and if you have the meters for it: fadc full U1. Now all you have to ponder upon is what ultra to use against what character. I prefer to use U1 on Balrog, Dudley and Blanka because of the punishes on these characters (Balrog: obvious dash punch, Dudley:same here, Blanka:whiffed ultra 1).

Well, yea, that makes sense. Things are easier when you always have the same answer. Just in training mode I was able to backdash, then dash forward and hit raw ultra most of the time, but it didn’t work everytime.

Hey guys, I was wondering… What do you guys do against Elf and Rose?

I was talking to MagMan last night at the tournament we both attended and he said the best way to fight Rose is to just do low forward. How could I apply that? He didn’t elaborate, but I’m guessing he had too much on his mind. He has a tournament everyday this weekend after all.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you watched any of the momochi nsb 17? His style is almost what you need to do. I watched him just slowly take down ricky ortiz and he really didnt do anything to crazy just kept such good fucking distance and hit with normals when needed. I think if you can do that once you hit a crossup or a hit confirm combo you can damage from there. I feel like everyone needs to learn from momochis style as he might of figured it out?

Edit: Although he lost to magos fei long?

Do you have any videos on that match? I wasn’t available to watch it. =\

Its in the ken video thread in this forum, the ken put down the video thread thing. Theres a bunch of matches of him playing a bunch of people. The nagoya battle can be found on youtube by searching nsb 17 or something like that. Momochi played first for mad catz againsts ricky’s rufus. Its insane how good his ken is, I want to say how good his japanese ken is but I hate saying things like that because I feel like America’s not that far behind.

But honestly after watching them fight since vanilla sf4 America really is that far behind. Remember tokyo drift? white kid gets sent to japan to learn drifting accidently? Well I dream every night of getting put in japan and hitting the arcades cause apparently thats where the talents at.

Haha, thank you. So is this a video vs. Rose, or both Elf and Rose? I saw him double-perfect an Ibuki player, I was just amazed. And I didn’t really have a Ken “role-model” to follow until I saw Momochi’s Ken. So I’ll be watching him, A LOT.

Its neither its a tournament video with momochi on team mad catz (daigo’s team) vs the american all stars team EG. Just watch how momochi slowly beats down the first two americans easily. He doesnt even use huge combos or many anti air’s because no on jumps. Its lots of normals hitting at perfect ranges. Team mad catz played solid while eg seemed to be losing the whole game. Even watch the video as daigo talks to momochi its almost like the youtube comment.

Daigo : Let them win I want to play justin
Momochi: nod

Their playing with us, seriously.
