Don’t Feed The Troll
Finished Sagat, I did mine with the Overview on what to do and strategy. Magman pretty much covered the tactics and ways to carry out this stuff, so I thought there was no use in repeating info.
Chaos and Magman for Co-Presidents!
Can we put Ryu as a priority for a write up? Not saying he should be next or anything, but just up there. As it stands, all I know is:
I’m still finishing the Ryu scroll! Maybe MagMan can do him, priority Ryu, Akuma, Chun? or someone else?
I would say Ryu is the highest priority. Many of us who aren’t at high level don’t run into too many really good Akumas. Even though we don’t run into amazing Ryus either, I think Ryu being so solid makes him more of a problem. Even if the player doesn’t know too much, you still have to respect the fact that they’re using Ryu.
Akuma should be next. I think a lot of people have trouble dealing with his fireball spam and how to contain him. Many of the Akumas I face will either be bold and enter the fray, or run away and chuck fireballs all day. I’ve gotten bold enough to focus through and keep rushing him Ken style, but I could still use some tips on facing high level Akumas for when I get there.
I think Chun is the least of our problems as Ken players. Maybe that’s because I play Chun, too, so I kinda know what she is going to be doing. Or maybe it’s because she doesn’t do killer damage and is easier to kill than Akuma and Ryu (Akuma only because of his teleport to escape any mix up attempts).
I may even put a scrub slayer like Blanka or Rufus over Chun in priority. However, we’ll take whatever y’all are willing to write up and when y’all are willing to write it up.
tl:dr
Ryu
Akuma
(Rufus or maybe Blanka)
Chun
I think the Akuma matchup and Ryu matchup are more familiar in general since you will see many more of them.
It just seems the better Chuns are tougher matchups. Their pokes beat out many of Kens and she has the EX SBK to keep Ken off her. Looking for some new wrinkles in the matchup, but honestly at whatever pace and character you guys choose to do, I won’t complain about.
Although I am comfortable with Ryu and Akuma (Akuma is much easier match up for me compared to Ryu, Sagat and Blanka) match-ups I would still put them on the top of the list since they are common.
Blanka and Chun would be next after those two.
Please do Chun and Blanka next.
Those two i’m having a really good grip on, using focus, kara throw mixes, and knowing when to uppercut. But for some damn reason, i always get them to near-death and find a way to lose, maybe it’s just bad habits on my part (jumping in on Chun when she has EX-SBK waiting for me), and i try to change them.
I guess if i see a match-up write-up of those two, it’ll allow me to see more clearly where my mistakes lie. My major issue is that i never get to really practice against Chun/Blanka because there are so few of them, and when i do face them, they’re usually really good players.
Well for me a good Akuma pretty much shuts shit down, having to think about the demon flip mix up, the lk tatsu cross up and all the other bullshit junk he has makes for a really annoying match. So I would like to see Akuma up after Ryu if possible, that match up is so fucking annoying. I waste so much meter trying to get to him and contain him, I lose the match a lot just chasing.(I know im overly aggressive sometimes) Ryu should definitely but their in terms of priority, seems like he one of the most frequent problems for most Kens, which isn’t exactly surprising either. (-_-)
I agree wholeheartedly with you here. I honestly think Ryu is Ken’s worst match up, which is 6-4 at worst. A little extra knowledge from our pros should help us even this out overall.
Akuma is tough, since he has a lot of offensive and defensive options. You can spend half of your health just trying to chase him down (similar to Sagat, only at least when you hit Akuma, you hurt him pretty badly).
Maybe I just play too many Ryu/ Akuma players…
I think Ryu is his worst match too, Akuma probably the runner up.
There’s alot of chun stuff already I’ll just organize that together. Blanka is pretty straight forward unless he’s a real blanka. So probably Rufus or Blanka for 3rd.
Gotta second the motion for Ryu, if only based on the fact that every two matches online, it’s against a Ryu again.
Wouldn’t mind some Blanka tips up in here afterwards. Blankas can be pretty overwhelming to the uneducated (ie. me )
Don’t feel bad. When I first got the game, I never thought I’d EVER beat a Blanka player.
I must be facing some really bad Ryus, because i rarely lose matches to Ryu’s or Sagats, (but then again i’m still in G2-A area…) I feel that because i rarely face Chun/Blankas, it becomes more of an issue of just not knowing the matchup well and not having enough exp fighting it. Ryu may be Ken’s worst matchup, but i feel that it’s a rare situation when those Ryus are still in G2. Most of the great Ryus that really make the matchup 6/4 are probably in G1, G-S.
Hopefully by the time i reach G1, GS, i’ll find a way to make that matchup even less of trouble for me. So many damn Ryus online.
Oh yeah. Lack of experience is what really does it for me… I mean I stomped a TOTAL scrub Blanka the other night, but advanced players are something else entirely.
Plus I still have the HDR “Blanka makes Kens cry themselves to sleep” mentality so that doesn’t help :shy:
All thanks be to Dr. Chaos n’ MagMan. Thanks for the updates and time =)
I would love to see strats for Rufus and Viper and SIM. Sim…I can wait, most of them simply outplay me, so I know I’ve still got a lot to learn. But Rufus and Viper I see too little of, and the ones I do see are not only good, but use gimmicks I dunno how to counter well, (like that dash punch from Viper) or they’ve got shotos down to a science.
Me and Chaos were talking about vs Ryu and Akuma. I personally think Akuma gives Ken a harder time. Even though the immediate reward for catching Ryu isn’t as big, you have chances to stay on it. Akuma just goes MMMMHMMM then gets away. If you start trying to chase his teleport points, he just stays put :|.
I also think this because Ryu actually has to face the music at some point, and being backed into the corner is probably worse than Akuma being back into the corner. Akuma doesn’t want anything to do with Ken in footsie range…so he just backs up, slips out the corner, and starts it up again.
With some great footsies, Ryu shouldn’t be much of a problem. He has to be more precise with his low forwards because yours can counter poke his much more easily. Although, you do need to watch his sweep. Overall, your faster low forward is safer than his faster sweep.
vs Ryu my opinion is 4.5-5.5. For vs Akuma, 4-6.
We’ll go into detail in the match write-up though :).
What’s with this decimal system - say that shit in integers lol.
Just wanted to give thanks to Magneto Maniac and Dr.Chaos for taking the time to make this thread and update it.
Akuma would be nice, a lot are noobs but the few good ones I’ve fought have given me a lot more trouble than Ryu.
