ken is very weak against fire, ice, and most of all, poking. he will get so irritated when poked that he will actually start hopping around the screen madly, thus making other player confused and unable to move. very useful counterattack against taunts.
The first part; I have no idea because I really never jump in on Blanka’s ever, EVER. lol I’m just really afraid to try.
If you’re online and getting spammed with Blanka ball, its understandable that the timing is rough. However, if you feel disoriented there nothing stopping you from blocking 1 or 2 balls and getting back into your rhythm. It’ll help your reaction speed in the long run. Don’t feel that you always have to counter attack.
does anyone know any good strats against claw? i could really use the help.
When on the ground against Vega, play patient. Your mix up game will overpower up when close, but from mid screen his pokes are too much. You need to wait for an opening in his poke game and punish.
Now, an aerial Vega… I need big time help with his Izuna drop loops. I can never seem to escape the grab.
For an air-oriented Vega, I usually do a jump back fierce. It works almost all of the time, unless I get reckless with it. MP Shoryukens seem to get me in a lot of trouble =\
Not sure if that’ll help. But it works for me.
I typically jump back as well (not reliable but I try!), but the problem lies in wake up.
When the izuna drop loops begins, its because he scored a knock down and its coming on my wake up over and over. mp.srk always seems to get grabbed or I get hit with a cross up… even waiting until the last possible opportunity…
I have a few tips on the Vega matchup. If he does a Izuna drop you can, most of the times, just focus it. The vega player needs another timing on his grab when you focus so often his grab becomes a punch that you absorb and if you see where he lands you just dash after him and kara-throw. Ordinary throw wont work. Then you have KD and then your in the game. Beware of the EX Izuna drop because if they have good reflexes they can punish almost anything you do with EX Izuna Drop.
His kara-throw is to be respected. In my opinion he has a better kara-throw than ken counting only the throw. He has more set-ups for the throw and he’s alot faster character. Ken on the other hand has more set-ups AFTER the kara-throw. The most usual set up I´ve seen so far is the “piece of mercury” kick to get close and then kara-throw. Cr.lk to Kara is also a beware but do use it yourself. Many are waiting for that blockstring that doesn’t come.
You should also watch out for the U2. I havent battled a vega since SSFIV was released that goes with U1. You have to watch your safe jumps with U2. A safe jump or a cross up that would have worked gets hit by the U2 and then you eat a lot of damage. Vegas also use the U2 to get out of pressure. The best thing is to bait it. They WILL use the U2 cause it’s never expected.
And also, focus his jump ins. He cant do shit about. No attack he has is fast enough so he must take it head on.
I on the other hand have real problems with Cammy. My main problem is getting pressured by her Cannon Strike. I can’t punish her since it seems nothing she does have any real frame disadvantage.
I had a few fights against Guy today. His Ultra is so damn powerful I got destroyed several times even though I was winning in the matches.
I’m also struggling to beat Vega. I seem to find a pressure game works well most of the time but his cr claw attacks just rip me apart.
Something else…
Need some help.
I recently switched PSN networks from UK to Japan since I obviously get better connections on the latter.
Since I’ve done that I’m getting nailed more often than I did before by Japanese fighters who use a lot of Focus Attacks. Like, of course I came across people using FA and FADC in the UK / European network but my god are these guys good with it.
I was a fairly decent rank B with 5000 + BP and 2000 + PP but since switching I’m struggling to make it to even that level… The learning curve seems a lot steeper in Japan compared to lots of scrub fighters I’ve met before.
You guys have any good tips for Fei? Played a pretty good one last night and I find most of Fei’s pokes are longer and quicker than Kens. Just in general any lil dirty tricks we can use in this matchup?
Damn here’s another question…
I keep getting pawned by Vega especially when he does the move that flies off the wall and comes down vertically on top of you. How can I counter or safe block this move?
One fight I had today a Vega player won the match by constantly doing that move on me. As soon as I got up off the ground, the next one was coming in. Extremely annoying.
You can Focus Vega’s wall dive but you can still be grabbed out of your Focus.
Def need help on the Sagat match up. Keeps me zoned out better then any Ryu ever has, just don’t know how to get in. Once I get my mix up going, I’m fine, but until I get that first knockdown I can’t do shit.
GODDAMN ROSE!!! For some reason i cant find away around rose Drill. I played this one guy, He would Swipe swipe drill (Low Medium) And back dash. I cant find a way to punish the back dash. Or He would Swipe swipe drill swipe swipe. I dont have no normals to beat out the swipe swipe.
Only other tactic i had left was Pretty much to turtle and play keep away. AnyThing on ways around the goddamn drill. His offense was based around the drill and the damn swipes need help…
Hello everyone,
Am a ken main as well, I only decided to join this forum first of all cuz of my worst matchup… Balrog, anyways Long story short, check out the video i recorded to shut down every possible wake up balrog has on wake up.

Please i need your comments and helps to turn this into OS to stop even the backdashes… ( OS sweep doesn’t reach)
ill spend my whole day reading every post in SRK to improve my matchup knowledge more, my tournament is tomorrow!
You can try hp dp. That should work. You’ll have to use a different combo, though. You can’t do a grounded OS while linking the light attacks. You’ve got to input the dp motion during lk, then hit lp+hp. You have to do this quick enough that the lp would chain if the c.lk connects.
Aye bro try stand hard punch It seems to work for me. Test it out and let me kno The outcome.
I used to get mauled by grapplers as well, but I’ve been having a lot of success with these few tips. Hope this helps.
Like Joon has said multiple times, you want to find the sweet spot to hover around against your opponents to make the match much easier.

I like to stand my ground at around stepkick range and play footsies with a lot of s.strong, c.strong and c.forward. Don’t forget to cancel into hadoken/srk when you hit. I also sprinkle in a few stepkicks in the mix. Jumpback fierce is a nice option to escape with if he’s getting in to close.
-
For Anti-Airs fierce SRK seem to work well against him, in addition to the standard strong SRK.
-
Fierce SRK beats greenhand clean. Giefs generally follow up a whiffed greenhand with SPD, so thats a good time to jumpback fierce.
-
Kara throws are great. Afterwards I go for a safe jump-in short. I follow with a low forward xx SRK if he does lariat. If he doesn’t I do an immediate neutral jump strong (to avoid spd) > bnb of choice.
Hawk
- I play it about the same except more cautiously and stand back a bit further b/c I’m not comfortable with his normals yet. His s.roundhouse is nasty. Strong SRK beats his dive move easily.
dear doctor:
When doing c.lk s.lp c.hp ex tatsu/shoryuken do you find yourself doing any plinking or any crazy button tricks or is it all timing and just hitting the c.hp later than normal?
