Started messing with cap today, came up with this. Although I’m pretty sure you can do way more fancy things than this with help from assist.

the thing I don’t like about pro’s using cap is that they treat him as if he is a joke. . . . .

Didn’t do too bad for his first Marvel 3 tourney. He didn’t have too much Wolverine experience so of course Wolverine mashing on shit got the best of him and he made a few key mistakes against Leung’s Sentinel that messed him up. I trained him a lot on fighting Phoenix so he did a good job snapping her in and what not. He’s kinda dissapointed about the infinite leaving cuz he was better at it than pretty much anyone else that’s been using him in streams. He played games like Gulity Gear and Arcana Heart for a long time and learned from those games to have really strong execution so the Cap Infinite is very doable for him. I told him just to work on building meter through the tag switches instead and just do what damage you can with Cap until you build enough meter to kill someone.

Posting this video. A friend is helping me figure out various ways to use assists in extending Cap’s damage in combos, as my Team config doesn’t include an OTG.

For this combo: St. M, st. M, st. H, S, air H,? air down H, L shield slash, land, normal jump, air raid kick, M shield slash, L charging star, S, air H, air down H, L shield slash, L charging star, L charging star, Final justice or Hyper charging star

The one in bold is the area I’m having trouble with. The combo drops before I throw my last shield slash. Is there any way to deal with this?

I modified the combo to be:

Cr. L, st. M, st. H, S, air H,? air down H, L shield slash, land, normal jump, air raid kick, M shield slash, L charging star, S, air M, air H, L shield slash, L charging star, L charging star, Final justice or Hyper charging star

The combo worked fairly well for me, except against shorter characters, my combo dropped after relaunch. I’m getting the impression my timing is off somewhere, but I’d like to make sure with you folks.

lol well ok. . . . your changing of the air H to air M is good lol thats what i was gonna tell you to do. But the thing about the combo is that if you try to add a L to the beginning of it, it screws up the damage scaling of the combo and the combo will drop. For some reason i think that his target combo of st. m st. m counts as one hit towards damage scaling, so thats why it works. Seperating that making it cr. L to st. M adds two hits lol and makes the combo drop. So my advice is keep the st. M, st. M and just add a air M to Air down H instead of Air H to Air down H. Also try to hit the launcher as low as you can after the first charging star, and do the air M to Air down H as fast as you can. Good luck and keep practicing. . . .it will come

I use Cr. L since it’s good for catching opponents who don’t block low. As much as the other combo does more damage, it’s a bit harder for me to catch them in a hit. My version of the combo does around 715k w/ Hyper CS, and 970ish with FJ, which I can live with.

not to mention that c.light is 4 frames and has a great hitbox.

what you can do though, is instead of 2 hits after the relaunch, just do 1 hit into m shield slash. depending on the character size, you can do 1-2 more j.h shield slashes, followed by a j.m shield slash into charging star, charging star xx hyper.

its not too hard to break the 1mil mark with cap’s final justice.

Hmm… interesting. Is there any videos demonstrating this? I’d like to use your version as a reference.

not sure of any vidoes specifically, but the jumping heavy shield slash loop works the same as the x-factor loop–neutral jump into heavy shield slash. which looks like this: [media=youtube]wgXQwkpIOFs[/media]. (also, the vid says lvl2 xfactor, but it also works in lvl1 and lvl3)

without the speed boost from x-factor though, gravity takes its toll and you’ll have to end the loop with a medium shield slash into charging star, charging star xx hyper. i’ve been able to get 4 j.h shield slashes on medium sized characters since they fall slower. characters like ammy and wolvie are a problem though because they fall much faster.

air shield slashes don’t suffer from hit deterioration (ground shield slashes didn’t either in 1.02, but they changed the hit stun on heavy shield slash in 1.03 to remove the infinite). so max out hit stun deterioration as much as you can first (generally after a 2nd launcher or a 3rd shield slash), then go into a air shield slash loop into light charging star (which coincidentally also does not suffer from hit stun deterioration).

There’s only one Cap combo in this vid, but it’s over a million damage, has 17 shield slashes in it, and only uses one meter.

sigh all that shield slash stuff is going to get patched out and captain is going to be a smoldering pile.

I don’t think they’ll remove it… The other one was an infinite, and a pretty ugly one at that. This however, is not an infinite (except maybe against Zero?) so perhaps they won’t mind.

With how obviously low-tier he is, I doubt they’d rape ALL his shield slashes (I hope!).

I do wish that they’d give him his airdash back though! That would be awesome.

Shield Slash combos are fun. Not to mention this version of the combo requires assists to pull off (I think you can only get 1-4 reps off it solo, according to snaek). Given that its not a true infinite, I don’t think they’ll address this as readily as Cap’s previous one.

Until then, might as well use it while we can.

CS will crush any normal projectile + covers distance, so I can understand why they made it unsafe. I do wish it was a few frames quicker on recovery though. That and I still wish Somersault had invincibility frames.

I will laugh if they remove all of Cap’s shield slash loops, but not address characters(Storm, Magneto,etc) that have the ability to chain C’s for minimal hits, traveling characters into a corner, setups for reset, high meter building abilities, and maximum damage.
