As a Canadian the closing ceremony (save for the last two musical acts) was AWESOME, a full-on tongue-in-cheek send up of everything Canadian. Sure, the Russian ceremony was “artistic”, but it was something more suited to the opening ceremonies. The closing ones are all about fun, and the ending insanity was fun as hell.

I’m gonna have to disagree.
The humor wouldn’t have been understood by anyone other than Canadians and some Americans. Countries around the world are watching, and most of it gets lost in translation. This is followed by a bunch of mediocre Canadian musicians performing their hit singles. You can watch the same garbage on MTV, except this time some of them are wearing hockey jerseys, and they say “merci beaucoup” after they’re done. If they’re not gonna do something special for the Olympics, then they’re not truly serious about representing the country.
I’m not expecting a Beijing performance. Almost everyone involved in the ceremonies is doing this part time, where in China the government can say: “This is now your job. Here is your salary.” I’m just thinking there could be more Canadian personality, and fewer “fillers”.

I like the Olympics because it’s the only time I’ll watch events I wouldn’t otherwise watch during the 3 years and 11 months in between.
Roller derby on ice was hype. So was Biathlon. You miss a shot, you have to work it off by skiing an extra lap. One of the most ingenious ideas ever in sports.
