Despite the Canadian talk of “Own The Podium” and Russia’s bold prediction that they would win 40 medals, the overall medal count was won by a less likely candidate: the United States.

With Saturday’s gold-medal win in the bobsled, the United States has 36 medals; 9 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze. This breaks the previous American record of the 34 medals won in Salt Lake City in 2002.

Though the United States has long been dominant in Summer Olympics, Americans lagged behind in the Winter Games until this millennium. As late as the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, the U.S. barely made the top five in the medal count, winning just 13 medals.

But that changed when the Winter Olympics returned to the U.S. in 2002, and Americans haven’t turned back, winning 25 in Turin.

These 36 medals puts the all-time U.S. medal count – combining all of the medals the United States has won in Summer and Winter Olympics – at a staggering 2,511.

The U.S. also is guaranteed to win at least one more medal; Americans will get either gold or silver in men’s hockey. The hockey final between the U.S. and Canada will be played Sunday.

Canada produced in these olympics. A LOT of near misses and 4th places and the medal count could be hell in our favor. Regardless of the number I’m happy to see our guys and gals (especially) getting it done in the second half of these olympics.

I don’t know what to say about hockey tomorrow but Canada cannot lose on home ice. That is just…disgraceful.

fuck i’m so pumped for this game. This is like one of those things were you will always remember where you are. Last time i was at work listening to it on a radio in the back. Kind of what im going to have to do again. My stream usually cuts out and only plays the audio. But that kind of is more exciting cause you don’t exactly know whats going on.
