hay i need an answer for this asap. how far is austin from uoh? and more importantly, is there a cheap and easy way to get to houston from austin?
i want to fly into austin because i can find tickets that are like a 100 dollars cheaper
It’s about 2.5 to 3 hours from Austin to Houston(in a car), depending on traffic/weather/speed. And there are tons of players driving to Houston from Austin…so you might be able to catch a ride from someone.

I will do my absolute best to make it out this year, last year was absolutely awesome and I know that everybody that came out from the East Coast had a lot of fun.
I DO have a few important questions though:
- Will there be a hotel discount, and can it possibly be announced relatively soon? I’m sure the Hilton is pretty expensive at normal prices and money is a big issue this year…
- Is there lots of food in the area? Being on a college campus I can only assume the answer is “yes” but I’ve also been to some shitty colleges.
- How far is the airport from the campus? One big bummer last year was flying in and having to take a cab to the tournament hotel for something like 40+ bucks…I can only assume it’s probably going to be worse this time around since there won’t be any kind of shuttle to/from the campus for free…
- Are there any bars near the tournament event? I know this is a pretty dumb question but last year being able to just walk next door and get a nice drink on, then come back and play some games, was pretty damned fun too.
- I’m sure this will be announced soon, but what side events will be present? Is there any chance of possibly getting Dead or Alive 4 in there? I know that a lot of people have been playing this game online and are looking for some competitive play.

UH is 8 miles from Hobby airport, give or take. About 20 miles from Bush Intercontinental.
Food-wise, I think that we qualify as a “shitty” campus; during the weekend, at least. A wendy’s is open on saturday until 6 or so… only other thing that I know of, within walking distance, is a restaurant in the Hilton across the street. I’ve never been… gave the impression that it was relatively expensive. I dunno. If you can get a ride, there’s a bunch of stuff right outside campus.
There are a lot of bars within a 10 minute drive. If it’s any consolation, the game room downstairs sells beer.
