Official TEasy Thread: TEasy Strike is here!

hey clayton, i just got back from the post office…packed up and sent the board ALONE via priority mail.
im looking on the receipt though, and i dont see some sort of tracking number so i dont know exactly what info to give you :frowning:
so i guess you’re just going to have to wait until the package gets there to ship out the S Board…also remember that i just sent you the board alone, so feel free to take the other components out of the package you send to me…hopefully it gets there by friday

Sorry about that, PM box has been rather full from traffic lately. I’ll get the board and replace the 4066 on it, test it out, and if it checks out send you a new one.

One thing I never had you check was continuity on the d+/d- lines from the ribbon to the DS, just in case I mis-crimped or something…I know you said it worked for a little bit so it’s possible it was a shoddy connection from something I did since forcing 360 mode still gave you problems. If you haven’t sent it out yet perhaps get a quick test on that just to make sure it wasn’t something I totally overlooked. Otherwise just ship it out and we’ll go from there.

Either way, I’ll test the crap out of it and send it back out to you.

If you sent it first class you have to ask for it, if it’s priority it’s on the receipt. No worries if you don’t get one, usps is fast and it should arrive here by friday no problems either way. I’ll exchange and ship you an ‘S’ version of the TEasy asap.

Just finished installing the TEasy 1.2 + dual stike v2, everything worked on the first try (the most annoying thing to do was to put back the stick together, so many cables  ). With the latest 3.1.0 firmware, I must say that you get a pretty pimp setup : auto detect on pc, ps3 and 360.

Anyway, thanks for the TEasy, it really make the whole thing far safer.

ps: did madcatz drop a bucket of their red glue on their production line ? my te pcb was literally covered of it.

Glad to hear you’re up and running and you’re welcome, I’m going to continue to try and keep making it easier and safer for people to dabble in mods

Yeah, they tend to go overboard with the epoxy, but using a pair of pliers makes short work of it . As gummowned has found out, the factory workers sometimes even draw pictures on some panels when they get bored

Finally got around to this - here’s a pic of my ChImp + TeEasy in a R1 TE. I initially drilled holes in the plastic, but a screw broke off inside when I was fixing something - as a result, I now have it secured by shoving the USB pass-through cable (it’s plugged into a Neutrik jack) in between two of the plastic poles and taped it that way. It’s been traveling in my trunk and to various tourneys and no problems to report - my ghetto method of securing’s working so far

Thanks Phreakazoid!

I have been following Beam’s post because it seems I have similar issues.

  • plug into my ps3 and the 360 guide button flashes
  • i press MP and the 360 guide buttons turns solid but I cant do anything
  • i plugged into my PC but ii get “USB device not recognized” in the bottom right
  • i do have mod experience. i wire my own guitars (4 of them), its not as delicate as PC board work, but the only soldering i did do was to tin the USB wires (red black green and white) and then plugged them into the screw terminals of the DS
  • i re did and did the wires like a million times, folding, strpping, tinning etc but I dont know what to do now
  • i used a meter to check connectivity of the 360 board and the Teasy for the joystick and buttons. Is it necessary to also align guide/d+/d-/ground/power when you place the 360 board and TEasy together?

Please grab the Beta firmware and try it out. BTW you got to press HP without Home to force the DS into PC mode.

Can you utilize Start on plugging in to initiate a FW update? If you can, then do as mephisto suggests. Also, just as a sanity check make sure to try it out on another laptop/pc, I’ve had an issue with 1 install that came up like that on 1 PC but worked great otherwise (honest to god I don’t have an explanation for that one, Mephisto would be better suited to say why that might be).

Maybe take a quick snapshot of the install.

No, if you’ve aligned the others than everything else should be OK.

If you’re still not having any luck, just hang tight we’re working on a solution. BeaM never reported back so I’m assuming he got everything to work ok.

edit:
On the same note, if you’re still having issues but are familiar with your way around a multimeter, plug in the board and take DC voltage readings on the pins of the chip. Black probe on ground, Red probe on the pin you’re measuring.

OK Clayton the DS has been shipped, let me know whenever you get it and whatever you find out because im curious to know any issues with it. Thanks a lot

Did you get a chance to check the continuity of the d+/d- lines of the ribbon cable to make sure it wasn’t miscrimped in any way? If not, don’t worry I’ll throw it in a set up and see what happens on my end of things, all else fails I’ll replace the 4066 (I think that’s what’s wrong).

Clayton, no such luck in trying a second PC.

here are the pics you requested of the Teasy board and multimeter

Okay, thanks for the photos. Honest to god I think your chip is lifted out of the socket a bit, based on these pictures:

Make sure the chip is pressed in all the way for a solid connection, perhaps you accidentally pulled on it a little bit while rearranging things?

If you press it in all the way and you’re still having issue, please do as I suggested and take voltage measurements on all the chip’s pins and report back with what you find.

thats the way it came i didnt want to press it in or didnt know that it had to be pressed down. let me try that and report back

thanks

hey clayton, just wondering if u received my board yet for the swap?

Yup, got it and sent you the other version. Should be at your doorstep in a day or two

surprisingly just receieved it a few minutes ago, installed the board and everything went smoothly
only thing is that i had to plug it in holding MP…luckily i read up on that

this coming from someone with little to no electrical knowledge…thanks again clayton

Update your firmware and you can use autodetect.

I did press it all the way in but
1- the four lights of the 360 guide do light up
2 - USB is still not recognized on either of my PC’s

which setting on my multimeter? where do the probes go on the PCB of the DS? sorry for the the basic questions.

Set your multimeter to DC Voltage, black probe on ground, red probe on the pins your measuring. You should be able to measure the pins of the 28 pin chip on the shoulder of the pin that sticks out just before it goes into the IC socket.

Measure the 28 pins, and the voltages on the screw terminals.

Phreak, I never checked the voltages on the chip pins for my issues. Is that something worth doing? Wouldn’t be much of a hassle to check it out if you thought it would provide useful data on my problem.
