There is no selling of SBO footage.

I think you are completely wrong… players should play on the configuration that they are the most comfortable with. Otherwise you’ll be getting like 80% of what they can actually do.

saying so and so should adapt to whatever configuration is a cheap way out. Get the right equipment so we can have the best play possible. I’m sure Arcadia is doing everything they can to accommodate team USA>

The whole point of this tangent is that it’s impossible, you can’t play head to head and side by side at the same time.

well first of all, why is this even being debated, most people would agree that head to head is a better way to go.

i can’t say that trying to squeeze in next to a gorilla with big arms is when I play my best.

Someone tell me why side-to-side in any situation would make a person MORE comfortable.

Because it’s like playing over the internet or some random AI at times, you can’t read the other person, or any of the things described earlier. Just make the controls farther out and it’s ok, on a normal cab i agree it might be a problem. Most people who play in the us and want to win, will prefer side by side since it’s a part of our game IMO.

You think maybe that’s why japanese play seems so much more, likesay, calculating and methodical than ours (in general)? I would guess that they’d have to uber-focus on the screen, and the way the character itself moves. Might help if we played like that every now and again, sort of a training regimen. Like Luke with that helmet on.

N

Nope, they do because they have like 2 million more players, nice guess tho :).

Haha, of course, but it can’t hurt.

N - If we’re really going to stand a chance, all the 3s players should just move to Cali. Duh.

well if you have seen any of the japan tournament videos (capcom vs snk: daigo vs nuki for example), they do in fact play side by side at times. Even the Z3 world tourney was semi-side by side.

but i think that thongboy is right, instead of doing “fake” buttom presses and joystick motions, and generally perhaps trying to mess with the opponent next to you, Japan probably doesn’t give a shit about buttom slamming, etc because no one does that over there anyways. Peeking at the other guy’s buttons and trying to read his body is probably worse than concentrating on your own game. If you really think it is that much of an edge, just push two cabs together so you can peek over and make faces occasionally when the other guy is in the middle of genei-jin or whatever.

IMO the side-by-side thing is overrated. We lost because they were better at their games, and we annihilated them at our game (MvC2)

Any chance that we’ll see some footage of the event anytime soon? Any plans to make a DVD or maybe a few matches could be hosted somewhere? There are already a few ggxx vids at gamecombos, but no sign of any sf vids from the tourney. Anyone have any news or vids?

Wes - I know that we didn’t tape a ton of the ST matches :frowning:

Some of it was pretty darn good though let me tell you!

SO WHAT IF YOU BANG THE BUTTONS… ADOLFO DOES THAT ALL THE TIME AND IT DOESN’T CAUSE ANYBODY TO FUCK UP, IT’S JUST PURE EXCUSSES…:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, if they have the setups in the traditional Japanese arcade setup, mashing (some guys even shake the whole side of the cabinet they are on) doesn’t do shit.

I personally like the traditional Japanese setup because you can’t look at what the other person is doing at all.

Ha, yeah. Shatto’s out to BREAK shit.

N - When I have tourneys in my house, you guys better bring your own buttons.

I feel u Vic, but I saw Valle done it to me while I was parrying a Denjin, he even shoook the cabinet a little. SO I was like fuck it, I started doing it too. I think its wack that they allow it though cause sometimes you need to here the game man. You cant hear it when people are yelling or guys are smashing the buttons. Thats taking wanting to win too far. But as long as he didn’t shake the machine it should have been all good.

Later

It’s one thing if someone literally shakes the cabinet and it makes you physcially miss the buttons or move the joystick in the wrong direction. But pressing the buttons and moving the joystick to throw someone off is perfectly legit as long as it does not physically interfere with my opponent. I’m allowed to press the buttons and move the joystick whenever I want to; there’s no rule, written or unwritten, regarding that…It’s the player’s choice.
