I’ve been using that same reasoning for my beloved bisu for years and years
I definitely didn’t expect it to be that easy. Stork was pretty much afk for every game besides when he sniped that tanks at the beginning of one.
I give half the credit for Fantasy’s OSL win to oov. Them builds were tailored made to deny Stork and Stork had no answer.
ACE vs OZ in proleague starting in a couple of hours. Looking to see some old favourites play (FBH, Much, Iris, etc.) with Jaedong having to carry his whole team agian most likely lol.

i cant believe theres somebody on this site with the name beesuit lol

So heres a question for the SC1 diehards, SC2 gets a lot of criticism on forums (namely TeamLiquid) from BW fans and one of the things I constantly see crop up are “Build Order Losses”
Like basically, in SC2 if you do build X (3 gate expand) and they do build Y (Cloaked Banshees) you lose just by having the wrong build order, they then go on to praise BW and how such stuff doesn’t exist. Then I hear about very similar things in BW, such as the coach coming up with awesome builds to counter specific players styles.
So is build order losses less/same/more common in BW, and if so what exactly makes it that way?
^I honestly think BO losses are less common in BW, although it’s more prevalent in ZvZ and the occasional cheese. Otherwise, most BO loss complaints come from fanboys of their favorite player that lose games, lool
BO losses are much less common in BW true. i think there are several reasons for this.
-
if its not a cheese, a counter build order will usually become just an advantage. this is because usually the build order at a disadvantage has a small window of time in which it can get back to speed to the other person. usually through harass, taking extra expos or building the counter unit/building eg: making an observer before you build your reaver against a DT rush.
-
scouting is easier in BW. in BW you can keep your opening worker scout alive and in your opponents base much longer than you can in SC2. this leads to less surprises.
-
the maps are bigger. the maps used by Kespa are generally much bigger so you have more time to build up defenses if you are at a build order disadvantage.
i think 1 is the biggest reason however. “if somebody does XYZ build then if the other person did ABC build he must do ASDF.” is pretty much set in stone in BW.
i find BO losses are only truly prevalent in ZvZ and only subtly in PvP in BW. although despite watching pro BW since like 07, i’m still trash at the game D:
this is no diss to sc2 but i just can’t really stand watching it as much as i do BW. b4 i watched the MVP/MKP finals the last time i watched sc2 was only on a recommendation of idra/chinro and nada/MKP g1 (which was T_T cuz nada is one of my favorite terrans ever)
if anybody ever recommends you a game with idra consider them a biased fanboy. unless its to see him rage and quit. dude is straight up mediocre and it looks like he will never improve upon that. only time he shows “great” play is against noobs.
the biggest problem with sc2 imo is the lack of top quality players. BW just has had a lot more time to build up a roster of very good players who are capable of showing very good games. That and proleague. Since individual leagues are more prone to BO losses than team leagues.
Nada dun goofed his game against MarineKing. Seriously, engaging unsieged tanks against his marineball like that?
In regards to the BO losses, i don’t think it’s quite as severe in BW as it is in SC2. Most bad build order match-ups put you at a slight disadvantage but not to the point of an outright loss. Unless of course it’s something nuts like a 4 pool vs 14CC/Nexus which might be a little more common in SC2 due to the games infancy and lack of talent.
Overall BW just seems more fun to watch atm. Maybe it’s only because SC2 is still developing though. But really though i think the people who bring up BO losses just to trash on SC2 are nitpicking in general. BW isn’t totally free from this issue either.

No Homo
Okay maybe a little homo, only because it’s Bisu lol.
Watching ACE get all-killed by Hiya yesterday was pretty sucky to watch though. Especially ggaemo’s sad face when he lost :shake:
It’s an older, more developed game so build orders with strong obvious hard counters were eliminated long ago as bad or inviable builds, whereas people in SC2 are likely still using bad builds that haven’t been throughly proven as such yet
Like to use your example, assuming an adjustment isn’t possible with 3 gate expand to prevent it from automatically losing to banshees, then it’s a bad opener against Terran

I haven’t watched moletrap in a while but last I heard there should be 0 chance he gets signed as a professional commentator. Has the guy improved that much or is GOM just a fool?
There are build order losses in every match in BW to some extent, its just the “standard” play that so many players build their career off of is pretty resilient to a lot of the weird openings. ZvZ of course is largely a build order game, only a few zergs can play 12pool so much(the solid opening) and mitigate the skill the difference between them and their opponent…
Its also WAY easier to outplay someone in a variety of ways in BW than in SC2. SC2 from the period of 100 to 200 supply is largely a static game where both players have perfect-ish macro, there aren’t great periods to attack after the first 10 minutes until you are maxed or very close to it or your opponent exposes themself to a mistake(taking a 3rd too early, moving their army out on the map).
Thats my take on it anyway. In no way does it sum up the amount of variety or unique situations these games create but i was like B+ or A- level in BW and im always top 200 NA in sc2 right now(Not that it means a damn thing, already mad hackers and retards up in that shit)
GOM is a fool.
It’s just for Code A, and just like Kelly, it’s just a trial run. I doubt he’ll be back for more than one season
damn it nature come back to SC2 lol
great article about what’s missing in starcraft 2 as opposed to brood war
the guy articulated his thoughts well, and i agree with what he’s saying:
