Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

Youtube skills man! (someone in #vfhome linked it to me and it was only at 7 views then) Anyway, I really want more vids.

I’ll straighten it out a little.

Aint that Guile’s theme song???

The game plays and looks amazing. After the debacle that was the beta, I wasn’t expecting too much… 70+ matches later, and this thing plays just like ST on GGPO with some minor tweaks. I ended up on the station that wasn’t crashing, and that station happened to have an intercooler for the 360, so maybe the crashes were cuz of overheating? I think the only variable left is the netplay, local play kicked ass.
I think most of the ppl there were there for sf4, so the hd remix stations were pretty open and most of the ppl took off after the tourney ended. BTW, the final match between the unknown and Graham was great. Guile super FTW haha.

I should of been getting more footage but was too busy playing :-D.
Here’s a few matches I was able to get using my crappy iphone as a cam. Quality is shit and sound is screwed up, you have been warned.

FYI- none of the units had “intercoolers”. They were all test kits or demo kits. Demo kits have a hard drive that looks exactly like the retail version. Test kits have HDs that I suppose could be mistaken for an intercooler.

This question goes out to Sabr3, James Chen and the others who entered that Gamespot tourney/played the game extensively…what screen resolution do you think the game will be played at in tourneys? I know it’s a bit early to be asking this question, but I played the beta mostly on 480P on my 62’ just because I wasn’t used to the zoomed in gameplay. It seems like the tourney was played in 1080 aka zoomed in/chars going off the screen in the air…so will this be the standard resolution? Just asking in advance, so I can try to get used to it :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s already been said there will be a choice for 4:3 (traditional full screen) or 16:9 cropped in the final version.

Yeah but he’s wondering which view people will choose to play on in tournaments.

Personally, I hope it’s the regular non-zoomed in one (which is the 4:3, right?). I don’t like how the camera shakes around and has to travel so far every time someone moves, and heaven forbid Dictator jump or do devil’s reverse or something. It’s an annoyance, and while it wouldn’t be terrible to have it end up the standard, I’d really prefer that it not.

That wasn’t his question.

I’m wondering this as well. I would assume the traditional route though.

EDIT: sarn’d

Reminds me of that article I read when Eternal Champions (a solid fighting game made by Americans) got shitted on when it started getting popular and a 32 bit sequel was in the works for the Saturn. Sega basically saw the game as a threat to the popularity of their Virtua Fighter series (which has always been 2nd rate to Tekken in sales any ways) and ousted the EC sequel project. Reading that article finally got me to realize why Eternal Champions never took off after the Genesis game like it could have and this sounds like similar BS. I love VF but it shouldn’t have been at the cost of another potentially great fighting series.

I think the only reason Capcom is even really supporting SFIV in the first place is because of all the people being drawn to a realization that some crazy guy decided he wanted to bring to life. It really wasn’t in the company’s main agenda. Without Ono SFIV would still be nothing more than a dream to this day. So it really sucks that one guy had to work so hard to get a sequel to SFIV out on the market only for Capcom to not give a crap about a reinvention of its most prestigious franchise. Just because it was big years and years ago doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the power to come back big.

woohooo balrog!!!

oh fuck i quoted on the wrong video :looney:

I don’t think we have to worry about this game failing. It’s going to great appetizer for SFIV when it does come out. The best timeframe for it to be released is about 3-4 months before SFIV so the casuals will want a new SF then.

Sorry sorry. Didn’t read it right. And technically, the correct question (or the most integral) would be “what aspect ratio will be tourney standard” since Widescreen TVs have the option of playing in a 4:3 frame (which I believe was the only option in the beta for widescreeners).

Sorry, but HD Remix is most certainly not an “appetizer” for SF4. Time will tell.

I hope it does come out the end of the month, right in time for my birthday! Please release this, I want my birthday present!! :wgrin:

Yeah, when Dic does his DR he flies almost off the screen. Personally, I think it’s pretty cool. It looks neat, like ‘where did he go?!’ I loved the closer camera, but honestly I don’t think I could find ANY fault with ST HD after getting that play time. I’m so juiced. I told Sirlin I thought the game was amazing, and I hope it gets the love I think it deserves.

you do know you can play the game at 720p and 1080p and all those resolutions and still play at the original 4:3 aspect ratio right? you sohuld be playing it at the same resolution that is native to the tv you are using (avoids anytype of possible lag). and just be using the widescreen option that is in the game.

its hard to say whats gonna be standard. widescreen or the original 4:3. 4:3 is tried and true. I thoguht I would hate widescreen when the beta came out, but i grew to like it. its nice not having borders, and appreciate the visuals more, ya know? but admittedly, I have not played against dictator in a widescreen environment to see how much offscreen he flies. I didnt have a problem with claw going off the wall.

I do think that this mode could possibly be problematic since the game is cropped(zoomed in) for widescreen more. and since everything is theoretically “bigger”, it could throw people off on their range game, especially when going back and forth between modes.

With that said, i think old and new artwork can potentially be a big deal as well. I noticed in the beta, and im sure others as well, is that it seemed a little harder for ryu to crossup. The hitboxes are unchanged. But the fact that the new character art is probably a little bigger than the original makes it different when visualizing the proper range.

I can totally see many people complaining about tourneys not having a standard and complaining about these modes, and having to readjust. Even tho the game is unchanged and behaves the same in all settings, the visual representation will probably throw people off, of they think it will.

Possibly an overreaction? but considering how much people bitch on srk, i can see this complaint happening
