Official SRK Ultra SF4 Rebalance Request Thread

Lol

Co-sign on this. Just started using Hawk, and the motion on the spire feels really counter intuitive if you’re trying to generate offense. But, I think the AE incarnation of Hawk is pretty good, overall.

Oddly enough I don’t have any problem with Yang, my char can deal with his dive’s when he gets in close and starts trying to do em low, unlike Yun’s. If I were to change anything on him I’d just tone down meter build on palms and maybe a small nerf to the hitbox.

Makoto: A slight nerf. If I remember correctly she went from 950 to 1000 HP in AE. For the update, I’m thinking that maybe her health should go back to Super level but keep her AE attack power.

Hakan: Slight increase in SPD range when unoiled.

Chun Li: More recovery on her Hazanshu/ Overhead Kick. In exchange, maybe a buff on a different special move (can’t really say, I don’t play as her) but not her normals. Her normals are good enough as is, still the best in the game.

Honda: Hitbox or Active frame increase for Sumo Smash, with more recovery on whiff as a possible tradeoff.

Bison: A couple of more recovery frames on H (and possibly M) Scissors Kick

Nerfs to Fei Long and Yun, but I guess it’s been elaborated upon better by everyone else.

Why the hell does Hazanshu need to be nerfed? Why do H and Forward Scissors need more recovery?

Seriously reading through this thread has me worried about what’s gonna happen again if Capcom does read this.

Why does he need even more recovery frames on those?

Really? I’m worried everytime they want to rebalance, regardless of what they do or don’t read.

I’m pretty sure Capcom will just ignore most of what is said here, good and bad.

I’m hoping that they ignore both this thread and Unity, TBH. >_>

DJ with a lk sobat that avoids throws would be very very good.

This re-balancing thread is a perfect example of why listening to your community for input can potentially be a bad thing. It’s a simple matter of too many hands in the pot. I hope they are very sensible about what changes they make and don’t just accept the input of every Tom, Dick and Harry that ventures an opinion.

Personally, I think that between Vanilla, Super and AE, they could just undo past nerfs or buffs for each character in order to come up with an optimally balanced game. Also, I do think AE needs to simmer for a while before we can draw any conclusions about which characters are overpowered/underpowered yet. Nothing may change six months from now, but then again it might, and this certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Ono said more buffing, less nerfing this time. Why changing what works ? So I think she’s not going to be changed, once again.

Vega:
U1 from vanilla back (where he didn’t lose it until he hits the wall, don’t care if he has to lose the launcher).
st.HP having faster recovery to make it a better footsie tool.

I frankly dgaf about giving ST I-frames, and if he absolutely HAD to have them, I’d only want it on EX version, but i’m happy with it as it is tbh.
If I had to do something with his current nerfs, it would be to put U2’s startup back to Super’s.

This.

Blame the people who bombarded Ono’s Twitter with rants, threats, and insults. These events are setting a horrible precedent.

I think AE Cammy is really good. The height restriction on the dive kick is just low enough to be used as a great wake up pressure move. Any higher and you might as well never use it.

I’m fine with the new spiral arrow damage/stun/2 hit situation. On a lot of matchups the new 2-hit drill knockdown is even better than what she could do in super. I’m even fine with her sliding under the opponent on 2 hit drill knockdowns in the corner.

The only problem with Cammy right now are her combos. Most of her combos end in a 1 frame link, canceled to spiral arrow. Since only a few combos end in 2 hits, you can’t fadc out if you drop that 1 frame link. Spiral arrow is -10 on block. I’m not a fan of making spiral arrow safe on block, but this is harsh. Maybe make low forward a frame faster?

I agree with everything you just said. But I think these days there’s a better understanding, or at least awareness, of balancing, and far more of what a character can do was in its design from the beginning. In other words I think the thought that went into balance in SF2 versus SF4 is, in my guess, very huge–did they even use the word ‘balance’ back then?

I think there’s little room for things to go pear-shaped if they attempt a rebalance. I don’t see a cataclysm from changing a few numbers on a few characters. It will mix things up a little, but I don’t see how it will spoil it for those who’s fun is in the experimentation and pushing themselves. My belief is that nobody in charge of balancing at CAPCOM is an idiot, and the times when they come across that way are when it’s the consumer who is oblivious and not themselves (which doesn’t necessarily change what the customer thinks). Interestingly, and maybe ironically, what comes across in your writing is a concern that their changing things will upset the games balance–whether your concern is over more or less balance I am not sure.

I would concede one thing: the howling over Yun is completely disproportionate to how good he is. I think what gets some people’s tail is that his superiority was supposedly intentional. That is treating imbalance as an ideal, and I don’t think it is. I think the developers need to choose their ideal and stick to it, even while nonetheless conceding that ideals are seldom achieved to perfection. In my view, more balance is always better than less balance, and even though the position of tiers is seldom a certainty or foregone conclusion, it is far from purely theoretical either.

Depends which combo you use, right? I mean, I typically just do EX Strike, c.hp, c.mk, mk Spiral Arrow.

Then again, my win percentage is kinda low, so I guess I don’t have much room to talk. ^_^;;

stand hp, stand hp -> spiral arrow
cr. mp, cr. mp, cr. mk -> spiral arrow
cr. mp, stand hp -> spiral arrow
stand lp, cr. mk -> spiral arrow
cr. lp, stand hp, cr. mk -> spiral arrow

all 1 frame links, first and third can be fadc’d

Those all sound kinda hard. I see what you mean about dropping them though, christ.

New rule:

No requesting buffs/nerfs for characters you know nothing about.

i approve of this post.
