Yeah juri nerf didn’t make much sense, pinwheel isn’t what made her scary. But even then, good jurist will confirm it in a combo anyway, so I don’t think it will affect her much
Nerfing Rufus divekick makes sense, but we will have to see if the frame change was overly excessive
Ryu being top 2 means that he is top 2, thats it, no more. If you are losing to “frauds” with “hardly any fundamentals” you need to reassess your own play.
Also ever heard of SF2 hyper fighting? Most of the cast is good and it’s called the most balanced sf game ever commonly. Guess who is really good in that game?
Juri’s dive kick was a free way to safely get in. I didn’t even need to aim for the knees like I used to in SSF4.
You just dive kick from anywhere on the screen and are at sweep range impossible to punish because the pushback puts you out of jab/short range and medium normals are too slow to punish her in time.
Juri’s pinwheels SHOULD be very unsafe. It’s supposed to be a move you do at the end of a combo you hit confirm. Not a safe move you can throw out whenever you feel like or at the end of a blockstring for free chip. Fuhajin Store is the move you’re supposed to do for blockstrings and to keep pressure on anyway. So it shouldn’t even change anything for good Juri players.
All the nerfs did to Juri was make her less braindead. Now you actually have to play smart to get in and can’t throw dumb Pinwheels on block followed by Super or something. That shit shouldn’t work because people should be able to punish Juri’s pinwheel before Super comes out. But I get away with it so many times it’s not even funny. (Actually, it is kinda funny when it happens. )
then be active in the paul forum, it’s hard to find and confirm everything alone and you seem eager to play paul on an advanced level.
btw
just cancel it into mp morta. it comboes as counter hit and as normal hit it’s a free overhead mixup and safe on block. the gap is also nearly non existent.
the recovery of his whiffed heavies are indeed horrendously tho.
the reason i brought up ryu is because there seems to be this mentality floating around that losing to rufus or any overpowered character not named ryu is not legit since they dont need “fundamentals”.
i’m glad you brought up sf2. guess which character was useless in hf?
bison. he was sean tier. sim and especially vega were pretty ass in that game too. so ryu being super good due to other characters being nerfed to shit.
I agree with making it easier to AA and harder to cross up with, but I don’t think the huge nerf to block stun was necessary. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who hates Rufus with a burning passion.
I don’t understand this mindset everyone seems to have of Ryu being overpowered, or even top tier. I agree he is very solid and doesn’t have alot of bad matchups, but he is not vanilla Sagat. He is basically average on all fronts of gameplay. Nothing he has is terribly special. It seems the conclusion he is so strong is being jumped to simply because, as the common denominator in most/all Capcom fighting games, he is the most initially accessible character at launch.
I’ve generally been in the camp that Ryu has always been one of the more advanced characters to play (master) in the various SF series, mostly because I have never tried to play him since I started SF when I was 3. Sure those basic fireballs and jump fierce k in to crouch fierce k are super easy and all anyone online does, but the stuff beyond that has always had more too it. My only problem is, when you take the most used/initially appealing character and make him super easy to use as well as amazingly effective… it’s an annoyance more than a problem.
Yeah he needs something to help him move in better, the problem with outright buffing his walkspeed though is it would give him around Rolento level standing jab pressure, I’d rather he had overall faster dashes or a feint version of his duck attack.
layoff the crackpipe. ryu is easily top tier and overpowered.
hes not average, hes above average on all fronts and also, like you said, he hardly have any bad matchups.
by your stupid logic rufus is not top tier or overpowered either. after all, he only has only two things going for him, dive kick and damage. he also has more bad matchups.
but lets get back to reality, rufus and ryu are undeniably top tier. if you’re trying to justify that ryu should continue to be overpowered while crying about rufus, raven <insert overpowered character not named ryu>, then you’re a hypocrite.
And I’m guessing you run with a Rolento? Outside of anyone that has a 3 frame or less reversal, it’s fricking hard to stop a Rolento block string without resorting to meter usage.
The only real dangerous thing from Ryu I’ve seen that I wish they would change somewhat is his cr.HK. But this is because I only find it annoying for the fact of cr.HK can be cancelled into HK Donkey Kick, which puts him at +1 Frame advantage and seems to give him enough time to restart pressure. Otherwise, anti Ryu strategies are basically the same for the past 3 games he’s been in: Read what your opponent Ryu does, think, react accordingly.
We all know that there have been gems released that use a very small amount of meter in order to auto-block and tech throws. I had a crazy idea that, while I dunno how well it would work, it could be a solution. Why not give a gem that builds extra meter for consistently blocking cross ups and tech throws? It wouldn’t be a HUGE amount, just like an extra 1/6th (or a 1/4th if done enough times in a row, then reset to 1/6th). I feel like that would at least encourage players to not be brain dead when fighting.
