You get what I mean.
Want balance? Play 2012
This discussion is 3 yrs in the making.
i think the buff he needs is making some moves usefull rather than worthless. Ie, make Ultra throw better startup?. Ex Meat Squasher maybe needs armor. Also give Superman a better AA hitbox, nothing to amazing like some others have but something decent atleast since it leaves u forever to be punished. I think his butt splash should be double hit and leaves people grounded so it can be a good switch cancel move… Forward+HP should maybe be grab cancelable on whiff or maybe super arts cancelable?
maybe he doesnt need all these buffs but having one or 2 would be nice. I just never liked the idea of characters having some moves having literally no purpose other than accidently inputed leaving you at some sort of disadvantage to get a punished for it.
Yes I do and it is wrong.
You said it, so I don’t have too!
You sure we’re all playing the same game?
Not true. I abuse os, doesn’t mean I like it. OS in sf4 and parry os in 3s really took the cake. It takes the mind reading out of the equation. It’s not scrubby or anything of the sort. It’s just lame.
Oh yeah, Hugo is fine as is. He’s supposed to be a hard hitting tank that struggles to get in. That’s the nature of his game
The thing is it doesn’t take mind reading out of the equation. That is a total myth.
OSes cover more than one situation, but rarely does it cover ALL situations and if people understand the OSes they can understand how to beat them.
Hugo does nothing well, not even damage.
Plenty of characters get 400+ off a jab starter, and more off a better starter. All off Hugo’'s big damage comes from body splash and gimmicks. The dude literally has no mixup outside of the corner, and basically no oki game.
Hugo is a scrub killer (remember my Tager comparison), but he’s pretty terrible against anyone who knows the matchup, save a few unfortunate characters.
Also worth noting.
With the new gem back out. I’m finding it extremely easy for every character in the game to do about 800-1000 damage off a jump in. Admittedly this is with Pandora or 3 bars. But still…
Which isn’t going to come up until no one can survive it – making it a bit excessive unless they’ve been keeping their partner in their pocket.
Well… 800-1000 damage is going to be a full kill most of the time. Thats just a bit stupid.
Yeah. Wee bit excessive.
With the new gem pack, you basically have to shooce between the potential for one hit kills, or playing with Mixups turned off.
… Fuck this game.
Again. This is why i don’t play online. There’s always some BS nonsense people use online in every game I’ve played. /shrug/
Hugo has great pokes, though poor walk speed and he has a chainable overhead that he can launch off of, and an overhead that he can tag cancel into a combo. His splash can be ambiguous if set up right. His clothesline move can be used to punish predictable pokes, and it is work the risk sometimes if you have a good read cause you can get so much god damned damage off of it. And he can cancel normals into a dash for a command grab. Not saying he’s top tier, or even that good, but he’s got tools. Oh yea, and he has the best AA 1 meter AA in the game. He’s got solid shit, he certainly is more effective at lower level though.
I don’t think Hugo’s going to be high tier, but he’s definitely not going to be low tier. If the game ends up with heavily gapped tiers he’ll be around mid, I think. If they are tighter he may be lower but it won’t matter as much.
I think they’ll be rebalances before the DLC characters come out.
Yea I could see that.
His overhead is fine (the UOH and his sHP) but because he has no way to stop anyone from backdashing his pressure, he has no good reason to land them.
As for his command grab gimmicks. That’s all they are, Gimmicks. Hugo’s dash is way to slow to make the grab a real threat against someone who knows the matchups and isn’t asleep.
Hugo’s pokes are not good. They have some range, but he has no cancel options and they are slow as pis on both startup and recovery. he will lose a footsie war against basically everyone.
Hugo’s lariat is also a gimmick. If you know the matchup you will buffer any poke you throw at Hugo. This will beat the lariat every time and give you a combo. It’s also highly punishable on block.
His EX Back Breaker is indeed very good. But Hugo has no good ways to force people to jump in the first place. On top of that, as soon as he runs out of meter, he becomes totally free to jumping (not totally, but very weak). This means that you can’t really torch your gauge on other stuff.
There’s almost nothing “solid” about hugo. But he does have enough gimmicks to catch even a prepared player off guard, especially if you are doing a good job at conditioning. Like I said, he’s upper low, or lower mid tier. Somewhere in that ball park. The only grapplers who are worse are King and Asuka, and I don’t really think either of them actually count as a grappler.
