Official Rack-N-Cue @SFSU Thread

ok. nice. so we’ve got MVC2, CVS2 and 3S. All we need is puzzle fighter, SC2 and T5.

oh, by the way. Are these games going to be single or double elimination? Are each match one match falls, or 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5?

It would be cool if this could be straightened out now. In the past, all matches except CVS2 were 2 out of three if I’m not mistaken. Jeff’s done this a few times, can you correct me on this?

If MvC2, CvS2 are best 2 out of 3, it will take very very VERY long since it’s only 1 cab, but to me best 2 out of 3’s are fair. They can be best 2 out of 3’s but single elimination because I don’t think we’ll finish very fast.

I think that 3S should be double elimination, best 2 out of 3. And that only the loser of the the match can switch characters.

3s is your tourney now, so you should run it as fair as you can within the time limits.

I would copy your rules to morphiend so he can update the tourney thread that stickied. That way people know what they are getting into.

Alright, but I think I’ll hear from more people of what they think of those rules first.

Also, one more question, since we have to pay for each match, how is this gonna work after the first match happens? The winner’s character still gets to play, but he wouldn’t know who to face until the next set of guys win. Does the machine get reset or something? Cause if that’s the case then that’s alot of quarters and whoever wins 3rd practically wins like a few bucks only.

The previous match’s winner gets killed off and the next players step up. Well, if it’s .25 to play per match and if its $5 to enter and 20 quarters for $5 bill, you do the math on how many quarters it would take for one person to go to the top. I guarantee that no one player will be spending $5 on a .25 per play game for the start to first place.

Ahh, I get it, I guess the 3S rules are set, I’ll leave the rest to the other ones who’s working the brackets.

Just a notice: I’ll get there at around 1:20 because I have class, so if sign-ups are starting at 12:00, Ramberk needs to be there by then.

Don’t forget the $5 that each player puts into the pot is aside from the coins they put into for the matches.

You have classes on saturday?

Yes, I know about the $5.00.

And yes, I’m a Junior in High School and I got SAT classes.

 I’ll turtle next time. You don’t know how painful it is to play me when I turtle. Even I get bored. Sometimes I go that route. Especially against footsie Ken players. UGH!

^srk’s running the bracket article. You can also ask questions about it in the apex forums. Btw, doesn’t the machine need to run event mode or something? or am I mistaken?

It can be on event mode, but I talked to the vendor and he said he’ll be out of town that weekend, so whomever wins the match, the winning character is killed off and we do it over.

That might be a problem. Some players might complain about revealing thier teams or characters early and getting countered picked.

Will double blind solve that problem?

Or do you mean that people as in the audience can see who you’re using whichever method is used.

Nvm, i was thinking someone was gonna kill them off but i guess the computer can do it. Still think it be better to use event mode and save some time.

If I can, I’ll try to see if he cam set up event mode the day before. So, I guess we’re not doing T5, SC2 or Puzzle fighter?

we have two volunteers for marvel, we can pull one and have them run one of the other games. i can also run one if needed. im pretty sure SOMEONE will run a tourney if needed.

Sillie, if you need help running 3S, let me know. I’ll be there for sure!

Yeah man, the only problem is I’m gonna get there at around 1:20. But the sign ups starts at 12:00, so can you be there by then?

As far as sign-ups and collecting the $5 fee for each game, My staff and I can handle that. All you guys have to worry about is to make sure each game is played fair and that people are progressing smoothly on the brackets. This is why I search for dedicated volunteers for each game.

People who play marvel have an expectation on how it should be run, same with 3s, Cvs2 and any other game.

I’ll also be floating between the games to make sure the brackets are cool.

A nicely set-up event will insure more people will come through next time we do this.

That’s cool, but let’s use T5 for example. I don’t play it so I wouldn’t know about if someone wanted to use controllers over sticks, or how fair is using a T5 card? Could you use more than one?

If things like that are clarified ahead of time, then of course we could pull a last minute T5 tourney on saturday. Same with puzzle fighter and SC2
