February 22nd…US launch date.
My body isn’t ready.
Nor is my wallet…
I preordered a JP Vita (3G model, all the Wifi models were gone) this weekend. If anyone wants to make a Vita super-thread in time for launch, be my guest.
Taito, what new firmware should I be using? I heard they have one where you can toggle from CFW to OFW. You still into this stuff, man? Or anybody? I’m still on 5.00 m-336.
LET A BROTHA KNOW.
My PSP needs repair, so I’ve been out of the CFW loop.
You can upgrade to OFW, then install a temporary CFW that launches from the OFW XMB. After you shut down, it goes back to OFW. You might want that one if you’re looking for PSN access. Or, you can upgrade directly from 5.00 M33-6 to permanent CFW.
The latest CFW is 6.60 ME by Neur0n. http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/08/14/6-60-me-by-neur0n-the-alternate-cfw-now-running-the-latest-firmware/
I can PM directions, but it’s just from what I’ve read, I can’t try it myself…
Anyone else thinking the Vita is going a little overboard with its 5-inch screen?
The 4.3" display of the first PSP was nice as it is, and the largest hand held screen to date(till vita arrives).
I think you’ll agree that Vita’s screen is the perfect size when you see it in person. PSP’s screen is probably too small, and definitely low-resolution, by 2011 standards.
I just hope somebody breaks Vita’s security for the memory cards, and they make an adapter that you can slip a (hella cheaper) MicroSD card into.
How much did it cost you?
I see on Playasia the Wifi model is $525, Dollar is killing us. I’m cool off that price.
What if I change my mind?
Why spend the extra money for the JP PS Vita…is it not region free?
? I’m still in Japan, so MSRP (3g model)
Only reason being, having it first. Probably not a good enough reason for most. I believe it is region free.
Trust me I’m 99% sure I’m waiting for U.S. release, I pre-ordered it at gamestop months ago. 3 months isn’t that long to wait, especially since I have so much games to play on PS3. I have so much games to play on my DS & PSP as well. I just like fucking with new technology.
anybody know if one of these works? http://www.amazon.com/MicroSD-MicroSDHC-Adapter-Converts-Cards/dp/B001RPEJA4/ref=pd_sim_e_2
I don’t really feel like paying 50 bucks for a 16 gig memory stick, and I have a 16 gig and 8 gig microSD card sitting here.
Oh, and Taito, is it gonna be worth it for me to change firmware? I haven’t really run into any problems so I don’t even know if I should.
Wow really, my post got erased? Anyway…
As soon as I get my PSP fixed, I plan on just using it for my UMDs and the homebrew/emu stuff I collected over the years, and use Vita to play my existing PSN collection. Once Vita launches, PSP is completely dead (NA/EU devs never really supported it, and Vita support in Japan is going to be major if it’s successful, and it will be). If Final Fantasy Type-0 ever gets localized, it will probably get released for PSN-only (so both systems can play it) or ported over to Vita.
I read that Vita won’t be PS1 compatible at launch, but there’s no way that’s going to last long-- hell, it’ll probably be fixed once it goes on sale in NA.
So if your library currently works, and you plan on getting Vita, I probably wouldn’t bother flashing it. There are risks and precautions involved with flashing, especially since the new CFWs are different from the D_AX series (which ended with 5.00 M33-6). Anyone here disagree with that?
Also, Vita’s memory cards are only slightly larger than MicroSD (and probably DRM’d to hell and back)
So vita will play old ps1 games I downloaded on psn?
I can’t speak for the Vita, but as for the PSP? Hell yes, this method is the way to go for 32GBs of storage. I used the Photofast-5400 adapter+two 16GB Micro SDs on my 1000 and 2000 models and it always worked great.
This set-up can be had nowadays for about $45.
There’s some confusion over which PSN games Vita can/can’t support at launch http://www.siliconera.com/2011/10/13/playstation-vita-doesnt-play-nice-with-psone-classics/
But SCE’s US faq says it will support PS1 http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=2254
Every Sony system can play PS1, so there’s no way that Vita will be left out (and if there was, SCE would’ve said something by now)
I use 6.20 Pro-B5 on my PSP Go, and it can do everything that 5.00 M33-6 could. Never ran into any stability issues.
I’ve been running 5.00 M33-6 for years, and haven’t had any problems, nor a desire to change firmwares. playing grand knights history as I speak
