Youtube player is another feature, from the top of my head.
Back to what I originally said, the extra non-gaming features that made PSP a great multi-functioning device can now be done on other inexpensive portable devices (like iPhone for one example), and usually in better quality. In 2005 PSP stood alone.
And for a lot of people, retro gaming (emulation) is a novelty. For you, emulation might be the 2nd big attraction behind the official games, but for somebody else, it might be video (especially if the PSP isnāt modded). PSP does so much, modded or not, that you canāt say which feature is most important. Personally, emulation wasnāt enough, but it was the do-everything factor that kept me using PSP between game releases.
Have you ever tried Cave Story? Itās a really cool Metroid-type game.
Its your typical Metal Slug game, maybe a tad improved over earlier ones, but same olāformula. If youāve played any of the previous ones in the series then youāll know what to expect, and if youāll like it.
Custom firmware to run apps, certain video players, stuff like that is fine. I donāt do it but I see nothing wrong with it.
But hacking/moding a system to burn/pirate games I donāt agree with for the reason i said in my last post. Even if the games are from an older system or a pc or whatever.
I guess Iām kind of 50/50 on it. I honestly donāt see a point in having 2 threads for one system. But I can understand why so many people would ask for that.
Iāve been using Skype a lot when out and about. Tends to turn heads when they see my āphoneā held up to my ear. Anyone else have any luck using Skype?
It popped up againā¦Iām really hoping Sonyās answer to the 3DS isnāt āhey weāll just redesign the system againā. I need to find out when TGS is this year.
RemoteJoyLite is love as long as you have a nice size of RAM or itās the only thing running. Itās what I use to record all my PSP and PS1 gameplay for my YouTube channel so it comes recommended from me. Make sure youāre using .20a because some games will only play when using that version. Tekken 6 comes to mind in that respect.
Metal Slug XX is crack. If youāre looking to play it with others then I suggest the 360 version but crack all around. One of the better MS games in a recent while but I canāt really comment on Leona as DLC however. But itās only a $1 on either system so why the fuck not.
Cave Story is some of the best gaming Iāve done in 2010. The PSP port is good if you need a portable fix but the Wii version rapes any other version of the game. Itāll set you back $12 but trust me itās worth it to not only experience the best version around but Pixel gets a little change when you cop so why the fuck not.
Custom Firmware is a 2 Headed Dragon. While you can get a lot of stuff done on the PSP you couldnāt without it, the piracy is still an issue. Itās really up to you how you use the power so be responsible with it. So no we donāt need 2 threads to discuss all the PSP has to offer. This one has been just fine to take care of all business PSP related.
Somebody please wake me up on September 7th. At that point I can use my PSP to do something other than play Alpha 3 and River City Ransom.
In the middle of 2010, 5 years after launch, it looks like you can finally buy PCE and NG games for your PSP.
I donāt agree with pirating games that are on sale right now and I donāt do that. Old, impossible-to-buy games is a complicated subject, but I get where youāre coming from. At least you understand that thereās a lot that can be done on a modded PSP, that has nothing to do with stealing sales from a game company. Youāre in the minority unfortunately.
Lifeless: I think it has the muscle, but no one has dedicated. Currently, no, thereās no decent CPS3 emu for PSP right now.
Taito: Iād still prefer emulation above those NG and PCE released games, and itās not even a thing of money. Itās just that they run better. Try Samurai Shodown Anthology/King of Fighters: Orochi Saga vs. their emulated counterparts on MVSPSP and youāll know what Iām talking about. Glitches, hella loading times, etc.
Donāt know what condition these supposed emulators will play in. If a homebrew NeoGeo emu runs full-speed on PSP, there shouldnāt be anything stopping an official emulator from working just as well.
My problem is, most retro games that I want to play will never be re-released⦠either because the company went out of business, or the game is locked down in licensed content somehow. So the only options are to hunt down the original copy from a 2nd hand store, somewhere, somehow⦠or download it⦠or donāt play it ever again. Either way, the publisher canāt get my money.
If Valis III miraculously was available for PSN (which isnāt happening because that gameās company is dead), Iād buy it yesterday⦠because none of the PCE emulators on PSP (I havenāt tried that PSP game with the PCE emulator built-in⦠too complicated) run it correctly.
Wow thanks! That homebrew sorter made organizing my Emus in one spot easy. The only other alternative would have been to delete everything and then reload them on in the order i wanted lol.
My first & Phat PSP was a used unit on e-bay. I played the crap out of it, and it survived many, MANY mods & mod attempts.
So many times i thought iād screwed it up beyond repair, but was able to get it working fine again. Finally i one day attempted a mod and accidentally destroyed it, its 9,000 lives had finally run out lol.
Now i have a Star Wars White 2000 model that i got used on e-bay.
Agreed, but the collections arenāt all bad. Metal Slug Anthology on PSP was Good.
Ok now iāve never cared much for, nor have I ever been handheld gamer. In fact, that is still true today. The sheer awesomeness of the PSP is the one and only exception to this.
Anyhow, point is since i never had a handheld there are many titles i never played. Recently i went and got the original Double Dragon for the gameboy and beat it this morning. Nice! Graphics, gameplay, and music were nearly on-par with the NES version.
Always figured that aside from the Best-Made GB titles, the majority of the rest were crap compared to their NES counterparts. Yet DD1 was one of its first games and quite Decent.
Last i checked a while back there is no good mame emu available. There are some that claim to be able to run Mame-only arcade titles, but iām not sure how well they work and donāt feel like trying it out.
