Mine is a super cool looking paperweight. It shall remain so until FFTâs comes out, and then probably a day or two after that will become a paperweight again.
PSP is a dope system, but itâs been out for like 3 years and has a horrible game selection. Hereâs hoping Sony can at least attempt to do something with it.
BTW, my DS is a pretty good paperweight now a days too.
I want to downgrade, but I donât own the unpatched GTA, and I donât particularly want to search for it/buy it either. So⌠ I know Iâm kind of missing out, but how much am I missing out on?
Anyway, Megaman Powered Up is The Shit. The Shit I tells ya. AND REALLY FUCKING HARD! I was all âHa ha, simple side-scrolling game, I shall destroy you!â Nuh-uh playa, no. Goddamn this shit is ridiculously hard. This is the way games were meant to be played. If God really loved his children, heâd command Capcom to made a Megaman 2 Powered Up.
And I picked up X-Men Legends II ROA. Itâs pretty good, but I have to admit, I havenât been playing it much in favor of MMPU.
Yeah, but I just bought my PSP a few months ago (February?), so its on the newer firmware. 3.something, quite possibly one of the 3.xâs that arenât yet downgradeable.
Darkstalkers
Lumines
Mega Man Powered Up
Mega Man X
VP lenneth
Tekken 5
Loco Roco
Ghost and Goblins
I dunno, probably some other ones.
They are all remakes and ports, no fun no fun no fun.
The games I probably enjoyed the most were Tekken ( PSPâs killer AP, gameplay is great and the graphics are AMAZING for a handheld ), Loco Roco ( the only original game out of the bunch, cuteâs you to death ), and Mega Man X.
The only games Iâm looking forward to are two more ports/remkes.
Castlevania and FFTs
Maybe some Genius at sony should be like âMaybe we should make a couple new games?â
The marketing department for PSP has failed about 30 times over as well.
Itâs shame, such a great system being completely fumbled with retardation.
Picked up Power Stone Collection today. Iâm one of the sad individuals who missed out on the DC releases, so this is all fresh to me. Great games, although I can see why 1 is preferred. Shoulda given the option for the 2 announcer in 1. So epic. I think he might actually beat the Soul Calibur announcer.
Iâve heard that the GTA install is the less complicated way to downgrade⌠who else didnât use GTA to d/g?
About what youâre missing out on with hacking⌠basically it unlocks a lot of artificial restrictions and lets you get more out of the system while waiting for Sony to get their act togetherâŚ
For one example, since 2004, Sony capped the resolution for video playback from the memory stick at 320x240⌠homebrew players started coming out that raised the limit to 480x272 and beyond⌠well at firmware 3.30 in 2007, Sony finally removed the resolution cap, and the homebrew player isnât really worth the trouble anymore.
The latest example is PS1 emulation⌠right now you can only use it when you buy games via a PS3⌠we know Sony will (at least) one day allow you to buy PS1 games without having to have a PS3, but that might happen a year or two from now for all we know. Meanwhile, there are homebrew programs that let you convert any PS1 game and play it on PSP without a PS3.
Whether or not itâs worth it probably depends on how much time you expect to devote to playing a handheld in the first place⌠if youâre on the go a lot, I think a hacked PSP can take care of all your multimedia needs when using a laptop is too cumbersome and space-consuming (like in public transportation)âŚ
Eh, I can only get up to 30 fps output from that thing, and thatâs as much as itâs gonna get for running video through USB. Itâs fun to mess around with I guess.
I wouldnât mind more original shooters making it to the system. Especially horizontal scrollers (although I think verts can work just as well). How much of a blueball is RTypeâŚTactics?
For me, the PSP is my primary gaming system at the moment. I spend 2 hours on the trains everyday commuting. I get home, eat dinner, head to the gym, and only have like a spare hour or two before bed, which usually becomes girlfriend time. I havenât touched any of my consoles in months.
I originally just wanted a portable video player so I could watch 24/Heroes on the train. I decided on PSP because of the ability to play games. So far its been a perfect decision. The PSP is perfect for people like me who want to play games, but donât have the time/opportunities to play on console.
I dunnoâŚif Sonyâs in-house vid player has caught up to the homebrew, then perhaps I donât need to hack. Playing PS1 games would be fun, but Iâm sufficiently enjoying the PSP library at the moment. If there were an easier way to downgrade, I would still probably do it.
I agree. I havenât picked up my DS is a while, even though there are a couple of games I wouldnât mind playing. Right now, Iâd rather have a psp especially for the aftermarket goodies. You can do more with a psp than a ds. There are so many good games coming that iâm going to eventually pick up the psp and ds again⌠but not fucking nowâŚ
I was looking at the gpSP emu, whatâs the difference between the 9.1 and 9.5? and which one is better? it looks like theyâre both updated the same time but why two?
So, I was playing my friendâs PSP and he showed me all the crazy mod he put on there. Basically the perfect snes emulation and the arcade games he put on there.
Now, with the 160 dollar psps that you can buy, can you still do that? And I keep hearing that you can brick your psp if youâre not careful with it⌠Is that true?
Eddy, you can brick your psp, but its hard to do. If you cant follow instructions then yes you can brick it. I bought my psp 2 and a half weeks ago, so I believe the psps out there are modable. They come with firmware 2.71. If you do get a psp and its firmware 2.71, let me know Ill hook your psp up (I did mine and my brother-in-lawâs).
