Official Pokemon Thread ver 3.0: PokeMMO: The Future Of Pokemon? (B/W 2 OUT NOW!)

So I was thinking up a list of the most powerful Pokemon for each tier each gen. While the first 3 Gens are simple, the last two get tricky. Also I gotta research the lower tiers cause I don’t know about them well enough. Here’s what I got.

RBY
Ubers: Mewtwo
OU: Tarous

GSC
Ubers: Mew
OU: Snorlax

RSE
Ubers: Kyogre
OU: Tyranitar

DPP
Ubers: Kyogre or Arceus
OU: Garchomp ( before the ban), Heatran or Scizor ( after the ban)

I’ll think on this more when I have time to actually look at the past gens deeply.

Wait a minute…

Is that Giovanni in that picture…?

they should be up now. and yeah, you get Houndour outside Celadon.

RBY: Agreed. Nothing stops RBY Mewtwo (best hope is LS Chansey, or hax crit explosion), and Tarous is unbelievably good with counters for everything with Starmie coming a close second.

GSC: Agree to disagree. Mew is unpredictable, but other ubers in G/S can make their presence felt. Mewtwo still gets submission to take out his counters, and Curse Lugia has the defenses to tank with an amazing recover ability. Curselax is the undisputed king of G/S OU, nothing stops that thing really.

RSE: This is where it starts to get difficult, but I can say with certainty that Kyogre is not the best Uber in RSE. He’s a bitch to take down, don’t get me wrong, but certain factors can impact him big. Deoxys-A power, Groundon’s Drought, Light Screen Latias w/Soul Dew, Toxic Lugia Stall, all these things can ruin Kyogre’s ability to sweep.

If I had to pick I’d say the best RSE uber is probably Wobbuffet because he has answers for everything. He can guarantee you at least one pokemon you can take out, two if you are lucky. For OU, it is agreed everywhere that Suicune is the best. Well, specifically speaking, the Calm Mind version of him. Once he gets rolling, he’s unstoppable.

DDP: Arceus has gotta be the best uber. 120 base everything, multi-types, good movepools, god of all pokemon lol. Latias can check Kygore with its beastly Draco Meteor coming off Soul Dew. For OU, Garchomp no doubt. After his ban, then Salamence. Salamence as a late game sweeper was unstoppable, even if you put him on point he would punch holes in the opponents team. After Mences ban, then Heatran. Heatran is amazing, with checks for everything. He left DDP with the highest usage via Smogon polls.

it still says I can’t connect to the server authorization :frowning:

NVM: I didn’t download the update doh!!

I feel like Mew has an edge on all the other Ubers just cause of it’s versatility, plus it can run Sword Dance sets well. Probably a slight edge though.

Now RSE is hard. I have to agree with you on Kyogre not being tops here (Forgot about it’s low speed), but Wobby has it’s weaknesses. Sure, it will probably get that unexpected kill, but once your opponent knows it’s there it becomes extremely hard to get another one making it dead weight. Also Wob vs Wob will never end meaning if both players have one there’s a chance the game will end if they’re both switched in and have leftovers.

Still, one free kill is one free kill (Especially if it’s something like Kyogre), and the threat it brings makes it probably one of the best Ubers. How do you feel about Deoxys A and Mewtwo?

Now for OU, that’s tough. Tyranitar and Suicune are both powerful, However, Suicune hates Sand Stream, and Tyranitar can still take on Suicune in the sand if it hasn’t boosted much.

I always felt like banning Salamence in DPP wasn’t needed, though I stopped playing when Garchomp got banned, so I don’t know much of what went on during its reign.

Curse Lugia can maybe make Mew think twice, but it probably won’t in the end after Mew gets a 2nd SD. Mew is the best, but it’s like you said, if only slightly.

Deoxys-A is the better sweeper, but Mewtwo in his own right is still a threat supporting good bulk, speed, and sp atk. It’s funny because Deoxys-A is one of the few things that can actually check Mewtwo in uber play, specifically speaking the choice band/shadow ball variant. If Deoxys-A can get the right support, then he should sweep many teams off the map. Mewtwo can still pull it off, but it’s generally more difficult for him because he usually has to setup first.

The only set TTar can beat Suicune with is probably the Subpunch one, because he can phaze the DD one. While TTar is incredibly powerful, he comes with too many weakness to boot. Medicham OHKOs him, Metagross can best him on a good day, Swampert checks him, Dugtrio revenge kills him, and etc. Suicune has good typing, good bulk, 115+ base defenses, and a recovery move (yeah it sucks but he’s so bulky it doesn’t matter).

Salamence became suspect when he was granted Outrage from Platinum. The one thing that was holding Salamence back was that move, and all the other Dragons had it but him. With Outrage, he became the “Rayquaza” of OU. Steel types still got shredded by this thing, and as a late game sweeper his counters were virtually 0. There was little reason to pick Dragonite over Salamence when this happened, and, since Smogon bases its tiers on usage then I have a theory that Dragonite could of dropped to UU because of it (which would of been absurd, so they had no choice but to ban him).

So how do you guys feel about R/B/Y, G/S/C vs their remake counterparts FR/LG/HG/SS? I feel like the originals are quite a bit better but I’m not sure if it’s just nostalgia on my part. I would like others opinions.

it’s nostalgia.

when I went to kanto in HG/SS I didn’t feel the same type of nostalgia other than it being just another exp grind.

So what are you guys teams looking like for PokeMMO or the PokeMMO metagame? I heard people bitching over sleep/evasion clause (with good reasons I guess)

Here’s mine LV50-60ish:

Dragonite - I think Dragonite is one of the best starters in the game right now. I forgot that he doesn’t get DD through LV in this Gen, which hurts his utility a bit. But, this guy can handle some of the best leads out there (right now I’m seeing A LOT of Charizard leads). His movepool and bulk is so good, plus I went on ahead and gave him Fire Blast. Fire+Dragon has EXCELLENT coverage on just about everything, plus he can provide paralysis support with Twave (but I’m thinking of replacing that with Focus Punch)

Arcanine - Pure definition of “Glass Cannon” uh-huh. I don’t really like Fire types, and his movepool is limited–but I love this guy. I’m too lazy to go out and catch/train houndour, besides I don’t think my team needs really needs a dark type. Extremespeed is an excellent move.

Gyarados - I’m shocked in not seeing many trainers abusing Gyarados. This guy is still really, really good if you can put the right moveset/nature together. He is one of the few pokemon that get DD through LEVEL! His ATK has to be respected and his weaknesses are easily corrected with the right support. In short, he has won me many, many fights.

Magneton - I had a choice in going with Magneton or Jolteon as my electric type to cover Gyarados. My eevee was Rash, so Jolteon is still a possibility but the reason I chose Magneton is because Scizor remains popular among the MMO environment. I don’t expect Magneton to do much, just support Gyarados and provide some coverage with Electric attacks. His special atk is monstrously high.

Alakazam - Pure special sweeper. Some people like Gengar, but Zam does the job for me. This one isn’t as good though because I lost Shock Wave from another Alakazam I trained (to which I had given to drean). But in return, this one is Timid which out-speeds pretty much everything with 252 EVs in speed.

Rhydon - At first, I didn’t think Rhydon had a place on my team, then I looked it up and saw that he gets EQ through LV. That’s HUGE. Sure, Dugtrio is faster and has less weakness, but he can’t take a hit at all. Rhydon supports the team with his tremendous bulk and fantastic STAB combinations, he also has Rock Head (which is a cool ability)

Not sure yet, theres alot of stuff I want to play around with.

For now though, the only guarantees are Dusclops, Gengar, Blastoise, Aero, and maybe Dragonite or Magneton.

I haven’t even finished Japanese-trans’d Black/White 1 yet, but I’ll give BW2 a try later.

Also going through the older games on Nuzlocke mode. Something I never noticed before

GEN I is full of TROLL.

Seriously, I can pick like 100 things that troll you in GEN 1.

Wrap on ghosts

Start listing

Dragon type, but only one move with set dmg
Dragonite can’t fly, but has wings
Duduo gets fly, but doesn’t have wings
Bruno’s Machamp can’t touch ghost
Rhydon gets Surf, but is weak to it
Gary Oak beating the E4 with “Wild Trained” pokemon
"__________ is paralyzed it may not attack!" (Pokemon proceeds to attack)
Nugget Bridge Rocket
Lance’s Dragonite can’t touch Ghost

Ok maybe not 100, but you get the point

I wasn’t doubting you, I’m just really rusty on the Gen 1 shit lol. Needed a refresher course.

Oh yeah. Trainer Pokemon with Roar/Whirlwind when it doesn’t do anything in trainer battles til Gen 2.
-Night Shade (a Ghost attack) hitting normal pokes
-Charizard couldn’t learn Fly HM til Yellow
-Lance’s Dragonite with Barrier in R/B too.

  • Psychics being weak to bug-type attacks but the only Bug Pokemon with decent bug-type attacks is weak to Psychics… And sucks

…That didn’t change in Gen 2 either lol.

Lol yeeeup.

It hurt so much because as silly as it was at the time, that was my favorite type.

And… Beedrill just sucked so bad :frowning:
