lol @ rockets

He blocks more shots than Chandler but that’s really the only thing Okafor does better than a pre-injury Chandler.

In 2006-07 and 2007-08 Tyson Chandler was among the league leaders in Effective Field Goal% and True Shooting% and 4 out of the past 5 seasons he was top 5 in Total Rebound%. His size (7-1, 235) is also more optimal for defending bigs compared to Okafor (6-10 250).

Okafor’s scoring totals aren’t all that impressive considering that he’s played with teams with very little talent and he still can’t break 15 points per game. Offensively he’s terrible.

Tyson Chandler is a shell of his former self so I’ll stipulate that Emeka Okafor is currently the better player but I don’t think that he makes the Hornets a much better team than if they had a healthy Chandler.

What did you say about my HAWKS sucka?

Okafor will have the better season versus Chandler, because of health (although isn’t Okafor nursing a strained foot or something right now?) and because he’s playing with Chris Paul while Chandler’s going be playing next to Augustin and Felton.

But Okafor will also cost the Hornets - already super cash strapped as they are - about an average of $12.5 million per year, into the 2013-2014 season. Chandler costs about the same, but for three less years.

That alone makes this probably the dumbest trade of the offseason, from New Orleans’ side. They are already dumping rotation guys for cash in a league with a declining salary cap…so they take on an extra $40+ million for such a minimal upgrade of Okafor over Chandler? (Even assuming the 6’10" Okafor will be able to defend the Duncans, Amares, Gasols, and Yaos of the West as well as Chandler did.)

Matrix… the thing you always forget about players when you look at their ppg average is their shots.

Okafor only gets 9-10 shots per game. That is not enough to dictate whether he’s horrible offensively or not. Garnett in his prime used to get 18-19 shots, in comparison.

Between their career stats, there’s nothing that suggests Chandler was ever better than Okafor at any point. Chandler’s FG% is whiffed by the fact most of it was lobs from Chris Paul.

Who were the great offensive options keeping Emeka Okafor from getting shots? Gerald Wallace? Raymond Felton? Come on. If he was a good offensive player he would have had more shot attempts. He’s been in the league 5 years. He is who he is. He can rebound. He can block but he can’t score. I’d look for his low scoring totals to possibly fall further with the Hornets this season.

That’s why I think the main reason the Hornets traded Chandler is because they think he’s cooked. They gave him away to the Thunder last season and the Thunder gave him right back. That says a lot to me.

I agree with you on most of this post. Okafor is Al horford with bad knee’s and 0 offensive moves. I will think he’ll do better than chandler with cp3. T.Chandler was a bum that caught alley oops every game from the best pg in the league and his knee’s are worst than okafor’s knee’s.

Rudy T heart of a champion speech

Okay, solid 3rd place is too high.

LOL

Lets hope a Back2Back. 82-0!!!

He’s at best the 3rd offensive option for one of the slowest paced teams in the league. He’s probably 4th behind Paul,West, and Stojakovic. Chandler could only get 7 shots per game than Okafor. I doubt Okafor will get more than that. I think his scoring will decrease while his rebounding numbers should remain steady.

They’d be a decent enough team if they played in the Eastern Conference. They have talent. Luis Scola and Carl Landry are good players. So’s Battier. Ariza and Brooks are okay. They just don’t have the one guy like Yao Ming. I suppose if McGrady was still a great player this team could be a playoff team in the West but I don’t think that’s the case any longer.

Pistons looking pretty good in preseason.

It isn’t about players taking shots from him. Its about how coaches use players.

This same thing applies to Andrew Bogut. None of their coaches have mode them focal points of an offense, therefore they’ve never had opportunities to produce.

I guarantee Okafor is going to have his best year this season. Byron Scott knows what he’s doing. He and Jason Kidd made K-Mart an allstar, after all.

lovin it.

I’m in for fantasy if there’s a league.

Larry Brown is an alright head coach. How did he use Emeka Okafor?

Let’s go Warriors! (?) :karate:

And man, I should’ve done ESPN fantasy bball a long time ago. I’ve now seen the light!

Larry’s notorious for not using bigs, though.

That year Detroit got Rasheed and won the championship, he only averaged 13 ppg with the team. That’s pretty much Okafor’s scoring.

He always depends on his bigs to just be interior defensive presences and rebounders. This is his one flaw that no one seems to notice.

It’s ironic that every coach uses Emeka Okafor the exact same way. Maybe the coaches are really dumb and have something against winning or maybe Emeka Okafor isn’t as good as you think. Which option could it be?
