Meanwhile, the West is just a top 4 (and realistically, it’s just a top 2 in the short term). That’s an interesting dynamic, where the East has to duke it out with the best in the league, then face a Finals opponent that isn’t a pushover. There’s a bigger chance of key injury and general fatigue out East, but teams who survive a tough playoff bracket tend to perform better in the Finals.
East playoff is going to be a bloodbath.
We are looking at Boston vs Miami, Boston vs Chicago, or Miami vs Chicago, and either Boston vs Orlando, Miami vs Orlando, or Chicago vs Orlando in the FUCKING 2nd ROUND!
Lakers and Spurs don’t really have to worry about that much till WCF. Dallas is good, but I just don’t see them being a real threat.

Knicks gave up a lot, but not really. If you think about it, Wilson Chandler wasn’t even signed long term and he would become a bench player as soon as Melo got there. Gallo jacks up shots and plays mediocre defense, and Raymond Felton was only signed for 2 years anyway because the Knicks have their eyes on D.Will or CP3 in the future.
As a long-time, hardcore Knicks fan, as weird as it is, the only person I had a problem giving up was Mozgov, aka Blake Griffin’s Frederic Weis. He was raw but he worked hard, and he was a true 7ft center who could rebound. I could have seen him turning into a decent big man, but the fast-paced system the Knicks currently run isn’t set up for him to succeed.
Anyway, glad the stupid will-he won’t-he shit is over. Let’s see how this turns out. I think getting Billups as a placeholder is being underrated. He’s a solid PG even at his age.

I like Billups a lot. But considering he’s going to retire soon, that doesn’t help the trade much. Yeah, the Knicks are shooting for Deron or CP3, but if they don’t get either of them and Billups is gone…now what?
I read somewhere Deron said NY is a done deal for the if Melo was traded to them. I wouldn’t be mad. Kobe isn’t getting any younger. Given the choice between prime Melo, Stat and Landry Houston with a few years under his belt. Or the Lakers, with old kobe, Gasoft and Lamar who flips a coin before every game to decide if he’s gonna show up or not. If the Lakers don’t end up with one of the 5 star PG’s and Dwight I can see a mid/late 90’s stretch of eastern conference dominance. Than again teams tend to hand franchise players to the Lakers so you never know.
Lakers signed a giant broadcasting deal with Time Warner (similar to the Fox Sports deal in 1996 that helped finance the Shaq trade). They have the money to do whatever they want. As long as the GM isn’t an idiot, a repeat of the 90s Lakers won’t happen.
The West is going to be in rebuild mode for a while though, depending on how this CBA turns out.

As much as I appreciate what Walsh has done, and as much as Thomas sucked for the Knicks in the past, if he got us Melo, and he can get us CP3 (Who idolizes him) in the future, I say welcome back Isiah. I dunno how Isiah got so much pull in the Melo trade. Wasn’t he the one that told Melo to chill with scorin all them points, then had his team brawl with him and JR Smith? lol. And Dwight Howard to the Knicks? I dunno how that would happen, but that’d be pretty sweet. I think we’ll see super teams until there is that one guy drafted who winds up being able to get to a championship with a bunch of 2nd choice role players.

Unless he gets traded to New Jersey, (AKA West Sicily) where he should feel right at home.
