I’ve never said people should like what I like or dislike what I dislike. I merely said they shouldn’t be creepy.

LMAO you don’t believe any of that, You can’t be that stupid. You’re just an asshole with his nose up in the air. Period.
btw, we have the commonality of language, and you did say it through implication. smart guy
nah chrome doesn’t have red squiggly line.
alimony only existed to protect women back in the 50s who could not work for themselves and who would thus be left penniless as a result of a divorce. you said bread winner. in regular marriages, both people work. no reason for alimony. in marriages between a woman and a multi millionaire, the woman doesn’t work either, but she doesn’t deserve millions just for spreading her legs. that’s sexist.
Why wouldn’t I believe what I am saying? What a weird suggestion.
I didn’t, if you read it that way then that reflects badly upon you, not I.
And here we have it folks: He basically called them whores, he called a woman a whore, but he’s not a misogynist because
Been watching this show every now and then only to watch Discord. It reminds me a lot of Aeris from Billy/Mandy (or essentially any character with chaos powers) and I just love the stuff he does to fuck with them. Guess I got a soft spot for trolls/chaotic characters in shows.

As for tiers, I think the only thing good that ground ponies have is that they are pretty industrious and are basically the “business” part of the world of Ponies. But I actually caught an episode with some sort of shaman pony? It is basically a Zebra with a Jamaican accent.
The evolutions of threads on SRK is why I come back time and again…
Since Discord was voiced by John DeLancey, he screamed Q. The teleports and all
i’m misguided because i brought up the point that the most violent religion out there has a greeting that literally means peace? riiiiiiight.
again, not reading any of my posts. did i call sandra a slut for wanting birth control? no. i actually support her and think rush is a douche. but you do not read, you make baseless statements. the glass ceiling is more from women who don’t want to sacrifice their family life for a career. there are studies that show that college educated women want to take a break from their careers in order to raise their kids. there is a study from the US labor board that showed that there wasbn’t any wage disparity, once factors such as choosing to work lower hours (for family), choosing jobs that paid less (for family), or taking maternity leave were controlled for. why are you unable to actually read and respond to the contents of the posts?
incomplete sentence
so you admit to being sexist. men don’t deserve equal custody of the kids? that’s not equality. good job dipshit.
and women have recourse. men do not. in fact they are mocked for not being men. lulz. non equality. and i hope you are not implying that i think anyone should remain with an abusive partner. again, not reading anything in my actual posts. FFFFFFFAIL.
incomplete sentence
sensible post as you are actually addressing my points. good job. but again, if the goal is equality, then everything needs to be equal. you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
Now that I’ve actually watched a couple of episodes I can safely say :It’s ok.
Is it high art or brilliant social commentary? No. But its not like its an insultingly dumb show for 2 year olds.
I’m pretty sure a large part of the appeal is just the fact it is “ok” in a backwards kind of way. You could get up on your soap box and pretend this is a battle about gender roles and equality, but really, its just an ok show to zone out to. The animation is decent and if you aren’t hung up on the implicit gender of the palette, it is visually pleasing.
The popularity truly is born out of the internet, partially trolling, partially a feeling of acceptance and community from embracing something seen as “alien”. Its like goths. They know they look dumb, or at least, normal people don’t dress that way, but its ok because other people do it too. Or really, any other counter culture that gets its rocks off from pissing people off. I’m sure people called skaters a plague, menace or cancer on society before capitalism appropriated it and made it harmless through relentless marketing and consumerism…so I sort of see why people are threatened by it.
Really, I just see it as anime for dudes who don’t know which (bad, dirty, cute and/or offensive) anime to watch.
Bullshit because I’m using Chrome.
In the 50s women were not expected to work, they were expected to be housewives. It wasn’t until much later that women sought to leave the house and enter the workplace so it wasn’t an issue of them “not being able to work.” In “regular marriages both people work?” Can I please have a cite for this alleged trend? Also, who’s to say that both parties bring in the same or comparable income? Alimony is intended to ensure that the receiving party is in a position to support him/herself while he/she adjusts to no longer being in a relationship. Just because you get a bunch of property out of the marriage after a divorce does not mean you have the means to maintain it all just because you still have a job, and the government is hesitant to require a person to sell their possessions to get by just because they’re no longer married. Furthermore, alimony is independent of a divorce settlement.
“Where a divorce or dissolution of marriage (civil union) is granted, either party may ask for post-marital alimony.** It is not an absolute right, but may be granted, the amount and terms varying with the circumstances.** If one party is already receiving support at the time of the divorce, the previous order is not automatically continued (although this can be requested), as the arguments for support during and after the marriage can be different.”
A woman doesn’t just “receive alimony” because she married a millionaire. She may get a lot of money because of whatever circumstances brought about the divorce - the government does actually value being a loving and caring spouse and does consider that a contribution to a marriage - but then again, that’s the millionaire’s fault for not having a prenup.
Try again later.
Edit: And for the record, once you’re married your income becomes community property. That means, in fact, the spouse is entitled to half of it unless of course you contract around that with a prenup.
No wonder I like Discord so much. Q was basically the only reason too that I ever bothered with Star Trek!
You didn’t say anything of merit. You accused all feminists as being radicals, but there are people who are interested in fairness and equality. For a recent example see the slut walk. There are also those who are opposed to the glass-ceiling vs. glass-floor disparities between men and women in the work place. Do your homework.
Agreed. I’m not going to respond to him anymore. He doesn’t at all understand what I or anyone is saying nor does he want to. He just wants to live in this imaginary world where MLP fans are all jobless furry pedos instead of normal people. It’s easier to denounce groups of people when you unconditionally believe that you’re “better”.
well they couldn’t be much else without being able to go to school now could they? that’s the whole point. alimony is something from the 50s. it was based on the fact that women were helpless creatures who could not fend for themselves. anyone who supports alimony today buys into that bullshit. women can go to school and hold jobs. they don’t need alimony. neither do men.
why is it so surprising that both husband and wife work these days?
http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2001/apr/wk4/art02.htm
i mean anybody who even has a job can see that there are women in the workforce and that they are married. it shouldn’t be a shock to realize that that’s normal and this trend will continue. and as i said before, more women are working now than are men (an article in the economist i can find it if you want), and more women are going to college (google it) so pretty soon it will be women who are working while men stay at home.
alimony is actually so that the divorced couple can maintain a same standard of living, which is bs. as long as they are not in poverty and are capable of work, why should man OR woman get a handout?
as for prenups, if women really were for equality, they’d all sign one now wouldn’t they? the thought of needing to depend on a man to support them should be offensive and revolting to them. but nope they want their cake and eat it too. they say they want equality but they also want chivalry. they want dinners, flowers, doors held open, and all that. i mean if there was equality, it wouldn’t be women and children off a sinking boat first, it’d be “children”. period.
as for becoming community property after marriage, again that’s stupid. but of course, i just think marriage is stupid in general.
It’s not an imaginary world.
I understand that there are those with a predelication towards MLP whom are “normal” and act in a “normal” fashion, but they are not the majority.
You, of course, being the expert on the brony community, more than the people who are actually a part of it and actively exposed to it.
Also, predelication isn’t a word. Keep trying to sound intelligent, it’s cute.
lol You are having so much trouble understanding simple subjects it’s not even worthwhile anymore. I’m not surprised that both spouses work in the average marriage, however you saying “in a regular marriage both people work” is flawed. Does that make single income families “irregular marriages?” Does that mean every married couple who isn’t rich both have jobs? … at all times? The government isn’t going to eliminate the entire concept of alimony just because SOME people don’t require it. That is why it is a POSSIBILITY rather than mandatory. It is left to the JUDGE to decide whether alimony is appropriate and for how much and how long. IT ISN’T AN ABSOLUTE RIGHT. IT ALSO ISN’T EXCLUSIVE TO WOMEN, which you initially tried to argue. I just explained what the purpose of alimony is. It isn’t something you receive for the rest of your life. It’s an aid during the adjustment period. If a woman has been a housewife she’s going to need some assistance while she adjusts to supporting herself - i.e. finding and acquiring a job, a home, etc. Since you know so little about the issue, Wikipedia is your friend.
And for the record, the concept behind community property is far from stupid considering the expectations placed on marriage. If you’re married you’re supposed to support one another and keeping funds separate isn’t indicative of an intent to meet that expectation.
Now that is certainly conjecture.
Discord was directly inspired by Q. They just managed to get DeLancey to voice him.
While this thread has certainly gotten interesting, it is no longer on topic. I suggest that we close it and open two new threads. One on why people like the show (the animation, the writing, the fans, etc.) and one on why people don’t like the show (it is juvenile, represents or leads to deviant social behavior, the fans, etc.). Let the first post in each thread be a thesis statement, as if you’re about to write an essay. Every post after that refines the thesis and adds to the argument. At the end of say, I week (not that I expect the it to take that long, just throwing out a fair time period here) we compare the arguments.
Just a suggestion. I wonder if GD could handle it?
