Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

Not that I know of. The letter that they sent out was regarding their defective SEs and scuffed-up TEs. No mention of the FightPad

I got a Blanka PS3 pad on Tuesday…it was okay except the fact that the kick buttons didn’t work. Brought it back and got a Ryu one instead and this one is completely screwed up. Nothing works at all on the D-Pad and the face buttons are completely screwed up as well.

I called FailCatz and the guy just said “Well you can send it in to us and we can repair it or send you a new one…”

There needs to be some sort of solution for this.

My friend at home on the Jersey Shore got a ps3 pad and his was fine supposedly. This sucks.

Thank god my RealArcade Pro 3 is coming soon.

Welp, I guess the most we can do right now is either call or email Madcatz for a solution to the defunct diagonal recognition on the d-pad. As for now, I’m going to take this current one back to Best Buy to see if they have any replacements and if the next one suffers from similar problems I’ll try contacting Madcatz. I mean, I can understand that it’s not a first-party peripheral (or even being Madcatz quality), but they DO market the thing as an 8-directional d-pad, so I’d at least expect it to work that far. Otherwise, I’d consider it broken.

Mad Catz…I should have known better…

Greetings all. I purchased two fight pads Tuesday when I picked my X Box 360 CE of Street Fighter IV. I’m no rookie–Mad Catz burned me with that awful “fighting” pad for the Dreamcast. But my son and my nephew are little guys and the fight pad is perfect for them since it fits in their hands and doesn’t click like my Hori EX2 arcade sticks. So, I was thinking that maybe Mad Catz had gotten their act together.

Forty five minutes of watching Ryu, Ken and Chun Li jump straight up or walk forward when the kids were trying to, you know, jump forward/backwards and I knew that I had been taken once again. Hit or miss at best–total fail at worst. Not what you need when you’re trying to play a fighting game, man.

I just got off the phone with the guys at Gamestop and the manager swears that he’s not heard or read of any complaints with the fight pad’s diagonals. They don’t have any fight pads left, so I’m gonna have to wait until they get a new shipment in sometime next week.

I mean, I have two Hori arcade sticks so it’s not like the boys can’t play Street Fighter, but it burns me up that I spent 80 bucks for controllers that don’t work. I mean, I should have known better. The only thing that’s ever worked from Mad Catz that I’ve purchased was that rumble dealie for the Dreamcast. In fact, it still works. It must have been “opposite day” at the factory when they produced that one.

I’ve got thirty days to make any returns but I’m through with Mad Catz. Sega could pull itself out of it’s financial woes if they decided to re-issue the Saturn fight pad for the 360.

I bought the PS3 fightpad and it was working great for about an hour and then it just started to randomly kick. I should have known a mad catz product would act up like this. So i’m going back to gamestop and i’m going to return it for another. /sigh.

Just get this instead if you have a ps3. If you don’t, ur pretty much boned for pads.

Hell yes… Maybe we should start a petition:rofl:.
It sucks that MS hasn’t yet realized that the options they give to their customers are EXTREMELY limited.
Crappy d-pad (MS pad) vs Madcatz broken pads vs broken Madcatz SE sticks vs pricey and hard to obtain sticks.
That’s just 1 viable option and some people still prefer pads though.
Tough luck…

This is the inside of the pad (360 version). Not my photos.

I just got the PS3 version of the Ryu gamepad and it works phenomenal for me once I figured out how to disable the turbo. I was able to do dragon punches and shoryukens. It is unfortunate that there are other users who are having problems with the controllers but I have a Ken 360 version of the gamepad and a Ryu PS3 dpad. The wireless feature is a heaven sent but I wish there would be a battery indicator on the controller.

The controller packaging needed “2AA batters are required” though

Got the PS3 version of the Ryu pad, I’d love to be able to complain about diagonal issues but all I get are blinking red lights as it fails to connect to the dongle.

I bought it yesterday and after 14 hours of gameplay it’s still working. My impressions are that overall it is a good fightpad, the only minor problem are the diagonals, they are not as responsive as they should be and you need a couple of time to learn how to press them (after that you won’t have anymore problem).
It’s not a big issue and probably they’re all like this. In the end I’m satisfied, I just hope it won’t die on me for no reason, but I’m already planning to buy a good arcade stick cause I’m really loving this game even more than I expected.

Same here. After playing with a Saturn controller and a 360 Fightpad, my wife decided she has an easier time getting off specials with the Fightpad. I picked up a PS3 Ryu controller for her and the thing won’t go more than 5-10 minutes without flipping out and blinking until I turn the system off for a bit and try again (and it flips out again, so on and so forth). From reading around this and other forums, it seems like this problem is quite common…just like the other Madcatz SF controller varieties. A shame, too, seeing as how the 360 one I have works well (FOR NOW) and it’s actually an ok controller.

Thanks Madcatz. Glad to see you’re living up to your reputation!! When it was said that the SF controllers would be a turning point for the company, I knew it was all just talk when the ground didn’t turn cold immediately afterward. :arazz:

I have a ps3 Chun pad and it seems to read my diagonals a lot more accurately when it is on the left stick setting rather than the dpad when I’m doing qcf and shoryuken motions. When it’s set to dpad I have to press the diagonals down a lot harder than on left stick. Other than that I haven’t had any syncing or non-responsive button issues like others have mentioned. I’m pretty satisfied with it so far, hopefully nothing goes wrong.

Picked up a 360 fightpad in the uk. Lasted 24 hours and now wont work at all. Strangely though it still works on my pc.

I was hoping to grab one of these, but after hearing a lot of stuff about them, I decided agaisnt it. Hopefully the fix them in the next batch and then I’ll gladly pick one up.

I bought a PS3 Blanka Fightpad at Gamestop and it was working great on the PS3 until I used it on the PC where Mame and Mugen weren’t registering the d-pad. After messing around with the d-pad/analog switch, I think that LS and DS are switched because when it’s set to DS, Mame and Mugen were registering it as “Left Hat Switch” and when set to LS it’s “X/Y-axis” just like a normal d-pad. I guess I didn’t realize it at first because on the PS3 SF4 was working fine set to “LS,” but its kinda weird how it got mixed up like that. Anyone also encounter this problem?

I have the PS3 Ryu pad and it works perfectly. The dpad is even better than my Saturn’s dpad.

Speaking of which, anyone have any clue when that would be?

Got a 360 Ryu pad. Works perfectly. I prefer it to both the official and the bootleg Sega Saturn pads.

The PS3 wireless (Ryu) pad worked great for me in the beginning, and I was JUST learning how to use its strengths to whoop people online too (was getting to the point of pulling off Supers & Ultra’s flawlessly and just needed to find right moments to pull them off instead of hoping that button presses registered). Unfortunately the wireless USB doogle just blanked continually and I couldn’t get get my controller connected back to it since. Talked to Gamecrazy and the few in my area don’t have any available so I called the Madcatz techs and they said they’re aware of it and expressed that it’s probably just the USB dongle itself & not the entire controller.

Basically I have to wait until they come through with shipping it off to me (another week at best sigh) - but meanwhile I’m REALLY wondering if i can find another wireless dongle that just might happen to work with this otherwise great controller :frowning:
