Official 'Kitty' class boards thread

Hey, finally installed the Kitty. Works great, very satisfied, very easy mod.

Let me start by saying that my Kitty install works great on the 360 and PS3, which is the main hurdle I was looking to overcome with this mod, so overall I’m satisfied. However, I’ve got 2 troubleshooting questions (1 regarding the stick, 1 regarding the firmware app) and 1 request.

  1. First, when using the Neutrik adapter and a cable I made for the original Xbox, all I get are the turbo LEDs lighting on button presses, with no indicator lights for stick direction. There is no indication on the screen of the buttons or directions having any effect on the Xbox, so I’m inclined to think that the cable I made is bad, but would the stick be getting power at all to light up the LEDs if the cable was the issue? Is there a wire that provides power that might be the only one properly connected? I don’t have any other RJ45 cables made for other systems to test whether or not it’s the adapter itself or just my cable. My Xbox is modded and boots to XBMC when the chip is turned on, but even when the chip is turned off, I get no response at the official Xbox menu either. There was a mention of some Xbox bugs in the readme for firmware 1.3, so I tried installing that, but…

  2. I have no way to tell whether or not the firmware updated correctly, because the command window vanishes too quickly (after being open 30 seconds or so), and when I try changing the name of the stick from “Kitty TE Edition” to “Kitty TE” (might as well remove the redundancy) to check, I’m unable to Save HEX because of an error due to a missing MSVCR100.DLL, and when I install that file and run it again, I get the following:

“Unhandled exception has occurred in your application…”

“An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700B).”

Details:

“System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700B)
at_time64(Int64* )
at Kitty.Form1.button2_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
…”

Does the at_time64 mean it’s a 64-bit app? I’ve tried Save HEX from both a 32-bit Windows XP machine and from a 64-bit Windows 7 machine, to no avail. If there’s a command line way to edit the stick name, please share.

  1. Lastly, is it possible to put all of the Kitty button shortcuts in one place either on the forum or in the manual? Perhaps they’re already all in one place somewhere, but I’ve failed to find them. The one’s I’ve gathered are:

Force XBOX360 mode: move slider to RS, hold Turbo or Back, plug stick in.
Force PS3/USB mode: move slider to RS, hold Start, plug stick in. (saw this in the thread, haven’t confirmed it myself)
Force bootloader mode: move slider to DP, hold Guide, plug stick in.
Enter button remapping mode: with stick plugged in, hold Guide and Turbo for 45 seconds, holding a stick direction to confirm remapping mode when guide LEDs turn off.

Are there any other secret combinations? lol

N00b questions, sorry if it has been asked before:

1-Kitty is for making my 360 stick multiconsole?

2-The VLX model is compatible with the HRAP VX SA?

Thanks in advance!

360 TE sticks, yes.

Nope.

How well does the TE Kitty fit into the SFxT Fight Stick Pro? Not too well? D:

Not very well, but can be done.

I have a Kitty installed on a 360 TE. It’s been working pretty great, working on PC, PS2, 360, and PS3. However, only when on PS3, the controller randomly pauses in SF4 and MvC3. I actually brought the stick with me for Evo 2011 and when I asked the SRK stick people at the table they had no idea why it would only happen on PS3, even after opening it up and examining it. They didn’t see anywhere it could have had a short. I personally did not install it, the person who installed it also had no idea. What makes it more strange is that before that I had a Cthulu installed in the same stick and I had the same problem (only on PS3).

This is actually a really big deal because I’m afraid to use my stick in tournaments if it’s on PS3. Any ideas of what the problem might be, and how to fix it, would be appreciated. I last updated the firmware like six months ago.

Lan Di had me look at his stick for him. It seems like it was a button mapping issue. I looked around inside the stick and made sure the cables were attached correctly. I eventually remapped the buttons, and it worked perfectly after that.

  1. I’ll have to check on Xbox. By the sound of it, I may have made a mistake in the code and not put in the function for the guide LEDs in the Xbox code; Ill check it out.
  2. Im not 100% sure on why you may be having problems with the front end. It may be a Visual C runtime thing, I simply don’t know. Both the command line program and the front end are 32bit apps. If you open the .hex file up in a text editor, youll see a section like this at the bottom (the first 5 or 6 numbers of each row will match, you seem technically competant so I trust you’ll replace the proper section). This is the version with the text changed to ‘Kitty TE’.

  1. Eek, that’s a lot. Please allow me to tackle that another day, especially when dealing with the console specific ones. I will definitely add this to the Kitty User’s Guide when I can.

Good the hear. Now the big question is how the remapping mode was activated. You gotta hold down those buttons for a long time for it to kick in. You should see if it’ll still occur with the slider left on ‘locked’. If it does still occur, something has to be shorting them around the main boards. If not, there may be gunk under the smoosh buttons on the LED panel.

If I had to bet from what you wrote, I’d start with the USB cord. If you installed the RJ45 jack, would it be possible for you to make a short USB RJ45 cable? It’d be best to use a good, thick USB cord; a super thin one from a mouse isn’t a good idea, but one from a 360 controller would be good.

Got a Question regarding a VLX Kitty.
Any suggestions on where I should tap VCC for an Ascii Optical Joystick?

Any chance one of those 6 through holes next to the “1.6” might be a proper voltage?

^^ if i remember correctly, it should be the 2nd hole. right on top of the bottom hole next to “1.6” with the “-” next to it.

He’s correct. If the hole with the silkscreen line through it is pin 1, then pin 2 is VCC, and pin 3 is GND. The rest shouldn’t ever be used.

Thanks Guys.

Got a question. I’ve seen how little mods to the inside of an SE case can let a te kitty be mounted inside, but what I want to know is if it’s possible to just run a neutrik cable out of the case with a female end and just use rj45 cables for all the systems I would use, skipping the need to make a hole for the neutrik passthrough.

Well the Neutrik jack is just a fancy RJ45 (ethernet cable) jack, it’s not a special cable or connector. So yeah, you can either get some sort of RJ45 extension cable, or a normal male-male RJ45 cable, and use a female-female coupler on the end.

I figured that would be okay, thanks for the reply.

is there a walk through for making the rj 45 controller cables somewhere? I’ve never done anything like this before and cant find much on it

Have you checked the User’s Guide linked in the first post?

lol thanks!

Was using my Kitty modded stick last night, and noticed that it seemed to be occasionally dropping a button press. Probably a loose connection somewhere, but anyone have any advice for specific places to check when I crack the thing open this weekend?
