Official HORI RAP Premium VLX (VEWLIX) - VX (360); V3 (PS3) - Arcade Stick Thread

I feel you on that. Just recently I was bored and had some extra microsoft points so I bought Undead Nightmare and what do you know this week, it goes on sale for 1000 points instead of 1600. :frowning:

It’s why I always hesitated spending the points because I know right after I spend them the thing I wanted would got on sale, and it did.

Freaking Hori, just got in my long awaited VLX for my ps3 to replace my v3 but im forced to keep my v3 now becuz vlx doesnt work with ps2 games… Why sony?hori? do i have to go threw this again like i did wen moving to the v3 from hrap3

Wow, I’ve never really thought about trying that out. I should try my dual modded 360 VLX on Arcana Heart 1 on my PS3 and see if it works. Actually recently with heavy use of my VLX, I am loving it much more than my Q3. After winter, gonna paint the bezels since I dinged it pretty bad.

Just got back home tonight and tested out my dual modded HRAP EX VLX on Arcana Heart(PS2) on my PS3 and works fine for me. Is this an issue only for the PS3 VLX? I’m sure I remember my Qanba Q3(made for PS3) wireless working before it was gutted and dual modded as well.

Just finished dual modding my first HORI Premium VLX sticks with the ChImp SMD board…

They are now my new favourite sticks to dual mod

shout outs to pr1nce for trusting me with his precious sticks, even though I’ve never modded them before

man, that looks clean.

Thanks, although I have to give credit to the Hori PCB and toodles’ chimpSMD, its seriously so damn easy with these two to make it that neat with 30 awg wires…

I was trying to put it inside the black box, but i couldn’t get it to fit without having to hack it up…

Yeah, it would look simply clean if the chimp board could fit into the Hori PCB case. Mine wasn’t dual modded my myself by a fellow member here(props to Chowwun), had the Chimp board right beside the main PCB as well.

Another VLX stand by Kray

Hey just wanted to post some pic of another stand for the VLX stick…

Wow that’s beautiful! :lovin:

hey guys!!

im thinking about buying this stick. just curious about how do you change the artwork cause i really want a albert wesker themed stick for mvc3 :bgrin:

I just slapped a vinyl sticker over mine. Totally disregarded the original print so I’m glad because my graphic definitely came out as a keeper IMO.
Also forgot to mention that my stick is almost done, come Spring, the bezels will be painted along with many small adjustments of my VLX. Full out pimped it out with Seimitsu equipment(LS-56 and PS-14-KN buttons):

I have two Te sticks but i was looking into getting a hori becuase it looks like its got more room for art and what not. But i have some questions because i have never modded a stick before. 1. It seems really easy to mod a TE stick and to take it apart I have replaced buttons and started to modify it but havent gotten the art for it yet or the new template. Is the Hori easy to work on and crack open like the TE’s? 2. Can you dual mod TE’s? 3. As far as quality goes which stick do you think is better quality the TE or the Hori? I was just wondering because with my taxes i want to start working on the stick before EVO thanks!

  1. Hori VLX is probably one of the most mod friendly sticks out there(though it still voids warranty). Take three screws from the cord compartment and bam, face of the stick swings open with two 30mm button holders for backup. Custom art is more limited, I had to create my own template for the VLX and no one offers a template system so I used high quality vinyl over the existing art.

  2. Xbox versions are always easier and cleaner to dual mod. With so much room in the stick, it can easily fit many many mods in it.

  3. This question doesn’t apply since Madcatz does not offer a premium competitive stick against the VLX but I have to say, if you got extra cash and you want something very very attractive, grab the VLX.
Quality is top notch since I’ve own my VLX. Any new gen VLX button setup stick should all play the same.

So, I got a VLX last week and was going to swap the JLF with my LS-32, but ended up stripping one of the mounting plate screws pretty bad. I’ll be picking up a rotary tool to get it out, so I’ll need to replace the screw/s.

One question: I’m not too well versed in screws; what type/thread are the screws for the mounting plate on the VLX?

I got my ps3 vlx stick in the mail yesterday! Ordered from amazon. not a fan of the square gate so I ordered a octagonal gate and bat top stick. Does anyone have a video showing how to switch the gate and stick out? Just wanting to make sure I do it right.

For the gate you just push in the 4 clips that hold the gate in place and swap it that way. For the top you need a flathead driver at the shaft base to unscrew the ball top. Then you place the bat top adapter where the ball top used to be (the adapter may be sharp so be careful) and then screw the bat top onto the adapter.

Nice! Thanks for the info. I’m still very newb on the stick scene but I figured this was the best place to talk about the hori rap3 vlx. Another question…I have a lot of ps2 fighting games. Where do I go to find out what I need to get in order to play them? Or did I read something wrong and they are playable on the ps3?

i’ve been on the fence about getting a VLX for a long time now, two factors stopping me being 1) the price, and 2) the feel of the stick. Recently, (okay, maybe not THAT recently) I got a chance to try out the VLX thanks to syn13. After 2 years of playing on the TE, I felt that the VLX just didn’t feel right. Maybe it’s because i’m so used to the wrist room I get on the TE, as well as the fact that syn13’s VLX had seimitsu buttons in it at the time, iirc (?), and I have been using Sanwas ever since I started playing on the arcade stick. However, the case felt sort of empty when I was hitting the buttons. Maybe it has something to do with the plastic supports inside the TE? The VLX is a very nice stick indeed, but it doesn’t seem like the right one for me :V

and with that, i’ll just leave this here  critique, opinions and suggestions welcome

Seimitsu buttons were put it 3 days before MvC3 came out Asolite
With that said, I still believe this stick excels on a a coffee table that’s knee high from where you’re sitting. The main reason why is simply because of what Asolite has inputted which is the wrist space. On my lap, it’s as far as my knees so my wrists aren’t bent almost 90 degrees. As for the construction, it’s about 50/50 metal and plastic I believe, I don’t mind the hollowness feeling now since this and my sturdy solid Q3 Sticks are my main sticks and they’re both completely contrasting sticks.

Ah I remember the Angel Beats template, very clean but moving the group of characters in the center higher would destroy the effect of the design unless you invest in some clear buttons.

I just realized that I’ve never taken the lap board out of my VLX box lol!
