Official HORI RAP Premium VLX (VEWLIX) - VX (360); V3 (PS3) - Arcade Stick Thread

how does your back like your hori when you carry it to every tourney

It’s actually not too bad. I only carry it around when I’m up on deck. Whenever I’m not, I set it down somewhere (everyone’s really friendly at the venue I go to, so results may vary).

I’ve contemplated making a pseudo back-strap that connects on one end to the other, but I don’t think I’ll be taking these custom mods that far…

lol there was a week where i had serious back pain due to carrying the vlx. i have something to carry it in now. fucking 27+ pounds lol

Modding in seattle area?

Hey all, great thread.
I have a 360 vlx, got it yesterday, and am looking for advice.
I have mostly PS games, and a few xbox, but ordered this as the result of wanting the dual application ability.
My thought is to return this and get a PS3 version.
My question is are any of you familiar with someone technically able to do a dual mod in the Seattle area? (and if not then I’ll just get a PS3 version).
Thanks!

Im not a pro modder but based on the guides ive seen, and little modding i did to my TE-S, it doesnt seem to hard to do if you give it a go. I think that is the way to go, get 360 and mod for PS3 from what ive read. I think lizardlick.com has all you need iirc.

I made a hi-res video of the stick:

Nice video! Here are some pics of mine:
Picasa Web Albums - e.perelezmelendez - Hori Real Arc…
I have a ghetto setup using an ironing board until I find something at Ikea next weekend…

PS3 edition here. That it’s not backwards compatible is a bit disappointing. I know it says it’s not right on Hori’s site but I was hoping they were just being overly cautious. Sigh. It just wasn’t meant to be…

Also I’d like to mention that with some spot tests on the floor the T.E. has a slight stability advantage when making downwards motions towards yourself. I’m guessing this is because the VLX has a shallower footprint front to back and the joystick is closer to you than the T.E. That being said I’d give the VLX the edge in every other direction for obvious reasons. However at the same time, since the T.E’s joystick is more centered, I must note that it’s also more consistent as well.

Do keep in mind though that I haven’t tried the option board yet, which may very well fix the problem. The main reason I haven’t is that I was thinking I might return it to Amazon for a 360 version and dual mod with an MC Cthulu and wondered what Hori considered warranty voiding. They very vaguely mentioned ā€œopeningā€ it on their site…

However I probably wont want or need to since I don’t need to since I have 360 joysticks and it’s not the sort of stick that’s really practical for a 4p setup like what I want due to play area, storage and price concerns. Still, concerning the last bit, I’m tempted to horde if not only because I know these’ll be even more impossibly expensive later on in my life…

Concerning reflections, even the red parts are very reflective with the look of autmotive paint. You could probably shave your own beard or apply makeup using the chrome part under the joystick. Simply a beautiful piece.

I like the storage compartment better on this than the T.E. since the compartment is roomier and the cord is shorter. I don’t have to carefully wind it every time I want to pick up and take it somewhere or put it away. However not reaching the edge of coffee table at full stretch makes this a bit of a double edged sword.

One final note, what’s with those weird screws in the cord compartment, with the universal heads and finger grips on the side? One of them came loose during my shipping and curious to see what they’d do, I ended up taking them all off for a moment to see if they did anything. It looks to me like they’re there just for show, which strikes me as being even odder since they’re typically going to be covered by the door… This deeply confuses me like you wouldn’t believe. I mean, are these like, the screwtificates of authenticity or something? I’ve never seen anything like them before. :wtf:

Those 3 thumbscrews allow for the opening of the top panel. Remove all 3, then flip it open. :wgrin:

Anyone knows if the PS3 version of the VLX stick will work with PS1/Playstation Network games? (not PS2) As long as it works with those (I need my Raystorm, G-Darius, Bubble Bobble, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, DonPachi, Namco Museum Essentials and Final Fight fixes), I’m fine.

I’m not sure how to tell whether a PCB is common ground or not, but here’s a few pics of the PCB out of my friend’s Hori VLX. Maybe someone can tell by just looking at it, not sure~

what type of connector is the one used on top?

I answered in other Thread.
The closest.

thank you so much, you’re gdlike.

where can i find replacements of such connectors?

now i have some other questions which i’ll ask in the hori thread

That connector at the top is a custom make that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Unless Hori decides to sell the parts. I’m pretty sure the connectors you see on the bottom are also custom-made. Good luck to you if you do find them, though.

Nope, the bottom are JST PH and JST EH.
Not custom.

Ooh… so that’s how you do it. Thanks. Now I wonder why I didn’t consider that…

I just shoved in Star Ocean: The Second Story and my VLX registers inputs just fine so it works with PS1 games. I’ve also used it with my downloaded copies of 1942 and Hitogata Happa, albeit I haven’t tried it online. I’d presume that wouldn’t make much of a difference though; it’s an officially licensed stick with a Playstation Logo right on the home button, so it really really should work irrespective.

Also where did you get Bubble Bobble? That’s probably the most important game included on the Taito Legends disc for me.

There was a PSone disc released around 98-99 that had Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands.

What are your thoughts on this one? I know its not out yet.

Don’t let the naysayers sway you

Having tried the TE, HRAP2SA, VSHG, and making my own custom as well, I can say this joystick is the coolest one I’ve tried.

Pictures do not do it justice. Because most of the joystick is made of metal, it feels super solid and heavy.

The only quibble I have is the top right corner of the panel does flex. I think I could try to bend it back so it sits perfectly flush, but I am scared to try. There is no flex at all in the other 3 corners, and I do not touch that corner while I’m playing so it doesn’t bother me.

Those saying it is not worth it are likely those who haven’t tried it. It’s the best mass produced joystick you can get for PS3/X360. I paid 340 CAD for it and I think it is worth every penny.

^ I like this stick too. I have 8 of these bad boys. I think it’s well made.

It’s definitely something nice to have.
